After watching three episodes, hereās my first impressionā¦
Itās entertaining! Overall the acting is good (FL turns out better than expectedā¦) and so far there are no annoying characters. Of course it could have been even better if a certain person had spent some time in the dubbing studio⦠I like the way the FLās character is written even though it is quite different from her character in the novel. I actually cheered when she hit that deputy minister Xu over the head with the bottle. All the heart cramping and fainting feels a bit much, I hope theyāll tone it down in the coming episodes. Iām glad so far the drama turns out to be a lot more serious than the initial slapstick trailer suggested, even though ep. 3 had a few hysterical moments. Did they have limited budget or why is Lu Shiyan wearing the same light-blue robe in every episode? There are quite a few changes from the novel, most importantly, Shen Zhen has lost a sister and her little brother. I donāt care much about the brother but the sister would have been important for part of the plot. The OST is quite pleasing, especially the ending theme.
yesterday I happened to stumble upon a cdrama -yet to be released- which has about 20 !hic! screenwriters and…
Haha, 20 screenwriters and then they still just piece together the same lame old tropes as usual ššš Iād rather one person writes something decent (for example the novel author) and they stick to that.
Why blame the actor? Iām sure he would also prefer to be cast with an actress of his age and acting calibre…
Yes, Iām annoyed by this because it is a recurring comment. Itās bad enough Jeremy gets cast with these newbies , only for people to complain about the age gap.

Saying he looks like her uncle implies heās too old - saying she looks like his niece implies sheās too young. There is a difference. Yes, I may be a tad overly sensitive to this because Iām getting sick and tired of the obsession with age that gets actors/actresses accused of being too old as soon as theyāre past 25. If people cared half as much about acting skills we might be getting better dramas.

Yeah, ageism is rampant here on MDL. I get it that many viewers are very young, but why would they only want to see actors of their age group? WhennI was a teenager I had many favourite that were of my parentās or even grandparentās generation. There is no age in good acting. I think his make-up here is much better than in some of the previous dramas. When I saw some early shots I feared the worst, but the face-smoothing/whitening is actually still quite bearable. The fact that he looks much younger in a modern setting is probably due to the hairstyleā¦
Too big age gap, he looks like her uncle. His character is also that older than the FL? If not it was very miscast
Why blame the actor? Iām sure he would also prefer to be cast with an actress of his age and acting calibre instead of yet another starlet trainee⦠In the novel the ML is 24 and the FL is 16 so both of them are cast outside of this age range.
Reportedly the FL has been taking acting lessons for this role⦠Letās hope they werenāt a waste of moneyā¦There…
No, not at all. This isnāt a revenge drama, more political intrigue with some past-life mystery thrown in. The ML finds out that she married another guy in the past life, but he knows that itās because he treated her badly, so in this life he is trying hard to win her over so she doesnāt leave him. I donāt know why she stabs him in the first life, this bit wasnāt in the novel where he died of poisoning (and a broken heart) in the first life.
Maybe Iām wrong! But I feel that I will enjoy this show greatly! I didnāt feel this way when āthe forbidden…
The FL isnāt exactly what I would call a sunshine⦠she is feisty and I like it. I think Jeremyās acting is best when there is someone to push against.
It starts off with a bang and the mystery is very intriguing. In the first two episodes the pace is good but it…
Yeah, I hate it when they squeeze in the romance just because there HAS to be some. I would be fine with watching it just for the political schemes. And if it has to be there, why is the romance always so childish? That lovers-because-we-grew-up-together trope is so lame and overused. With mystery I meant the bit with the guy buried in the sand. I hope weāll find out more about thatā¦

Considering how long we had to wait for this, another two hours is nothingā¦
