I really don't know what to rate this. Some parts were good but it was generally too long. At the end I was ??? this is how they end it? It was weird how they ended it. Not everything was bad but there are other dramas I enjoyed more that I think if I at least try to rate it in comparison I would have to give it a low rating.
The dubbing is distracting in this show so far. I'm only on episode 5. I'm not feeling hopeful that it improves.
I don't know what point of fluency you need to be at to hear the difference. Back in the day I had a European boyfriend and it came up once in a conversation with him and his friends that they couldn't distinguish between different English accents and they were quite fluent in English. This makes me not assume how it sounds to other people. I also don't mean to pick on the poor guy because he still speaks pretty good English but in terms of the story line it is a distraction.

Qiao was definitely dubbed in the English phone conversations, it looked like he wasn't speaking English at all. He may have been but then they dubbed it over with completely different words. The head guy was named Jeffery and "Bat" was traveling on a Canadian passport - although Du Meng later found a lot of different passports in his room, so who knows what nationality we are supposed to think they are. (Maybe it is revealed in the end but I am not there yet.) Whether it was the actor speaking English or they used someone else to dub Jeffery speaking in English, I cringe at every scene he's in. I don't understand the rationale for him to speak in English. I don't know how obvious it would be to a non-native English speaker but his cadence is very off, awkward and unnatural. He sounds like someone not at all comfortable speaking English. I'm still enjoying the drama even though I don't like the scenes Jeffery is in. Maybe most Chinese people wouldn't notice it? Luckily he's a very minor role.
This is -the worst- drama I have ever tried to watch. I don't even know where to begin. I think bad writing is at the heart of it. Stilted, disjointed... I know Ivy can act better than this, probably the other actors as well. I was so excited when I saw the trailer. I thought it would be good. Huge disappointment.
My blog post for this drama that I wrote on the 1st anniversary that this drama premieredhttps://www.nosleep4dramas.com/post/love-letter-under-the-power
Sweet! I enjoyed that. I feel the same. Nothing is perfect but this came close. I never got bored with it. New (to me) actors to follow and support.

To clarify, I do think it is their voices for the most part but I also believe it is dubbed. The part in particular I don't like is when they speak English. I don't understand the point and the character that I assume we are supposed to think is a native speaker speaks particularly bad English. To the point that my husband who usually ignores what I'm watching looked up from his book for a couple of minutes then asked me what the hell was up with the terrible dubbing.
Are you sure it isn't getting attention? My husband is even watching it and loving it, and I can rarely get him…
I should pay more attention I guess. I didn't know Start Up was getting a lot of buzz and haven't been that interested in watching. I didn't hear anything about The Uncanny Counter but when I saw it on the Netflix menu it looked like something I couldn't pass up.
cuz lee seung gi got old and is not "hot and handsome" anymore?
Let me educate you since you don't live in the US - this is an extremely inappropriate use of "Karen". "Karen" calls the cops on people of color for no good reason and puts their lives at risk. Do you really think someone disagreeing with you on this thread rises to that level? You have a right to your opinion but now you're being childish and melodramatic.
Reading the comments I am so glad I put this on hold until all the episodes were out. Seems a good decision and now I will move on and not bother watching. Gah. What a frustrating waste of time. And it could have been so much better with the caliber of the actors involved.
I love Because This Is My First Life and I don't love this drama. I'm not quitting but it doesn't even compare for me. And I feel sad because I adore Park So Dam. I don't evaluate any show until I'm done watching. What I've seen so far would not inspire me to watch it again though. I'm just waiting for the moment when life takes a monumental crap on JH and I am going to completely hate it. I may benefit from waiting until Netflix releases all the episodes because watching it like this is painful.
