if you are thinking of watching this, do not. just,, oh my god what is this. please take a right turn and go to ultimate note if you are after something good.
ah man, where should I start,, The premise is great; not too unique, but definitely interesting. I recognize CCP propaganda will always have those dramatic, at times awkwardly cringe-worthy 'for the people and for the country' speeches, but that doesn't mean they have to do it... However, I really despise the fact that they just had to insert romance into this. The chemistry simply just isn't there. Friends, maybe, but lovers doesn't feel like the right title. Also, the weird gayness (for the lack of a better word) between a lot of the male characters is really,,, well, it's just really not vibing with me. I love a good bromance, but the weird possessiveness, the crying, the close contact.... They developed some of the male friendships too fast and man it's just not vibing. I've always been a fan of the ML's actor, but this show feels like 90% of the time he has that silly 'haha I don't know anything' dumb smile. I suppose it's necessary for his cover, but please, nobody normal does that. And the FL... I mean, I suppose she's better than some, but she's still oftentimes a damsel in distress just waiting for ML to save her. But that's fine. My main problem with the characters is that they were fine in the beginning, but as soon as communism surfaced as a topic, things become either overly dramatic or just simply dumb. There's also very little tension as the show goes on. The same old thing happens in every episode. The concept of fake identity just isn't as interesting anymore when 1) it's no longer dangerous and 2) everyone who shouldn't know now knows.
Do I recommend it? I think you should at least watch the first few episodes if you're interested in the whole republican era, espionage theme. I was intrigued in the beginning but slowly lost interest later on, so at least some parts of it were worthwhile.
This show to me feels more like a satire that throws you a bunch of absurd over-the-top acting at times to make fun of all the common drama tropes. It does have its own bunch of tropes but rather than going for school or romance or family-centric, it's a mash of a lot of things and that's what makes it really fun to watch because it can be completely hilarious and unexpected at times.
this drama has been chaotic and funny (and a bit heartwarming). It's short enough that nothing feels dragged out and long enough to develop a liking to the characters.
o whoa im hooked on the first ep. The quality is really good. I highly recommend. Not sure where it'll go but I'm definitely intrigued by the history between the characters
I love the chemistry between all the team members! Although I kinda hated how pretentious they all were in the beginning, they grew on me over time with all the funny interactions and plot. The cases are definitely very interesting at times and the humor isn't awk or forced, which is a plus.
I think what made me really like the cast is really that they're 'normal' looking, in that they aren't extremely pretty or handsome or whatever. There's something average? about them (which the later seasons, esp season 3, don't have because the newer seasons lean more toward a modern standard of beauty).
wow tbf I have no (read: low) expectation for this show bc yeah, HK shows are sorta formula-based and boy was I not surprised. However! I was hooked on the first ep because of the guy with the dog and I watched the whole show just for that dog guy. Did I regret it? yeah, kinda, but also mmmmmmm dog <3
mmm idk how i feel about this the arrogance of the FL kinda gives me the 'wow another failed attempt at making a strong FL' vibe, but I can bear with that. It's just afterward how everything begins to slide more and more into romance and I just-- :L (I JUst want my mystery/suspense/supernatural is that too much to ask for) (P.S. pls, strong FL doesn't mean they need to be an extremely tough-guy tomboy punching kicking martial artist or something. Look at Seo Ye Ji's characters, they're all rlly good w/o being gungho)
the ML is, well, idk I love his dumbness vibe but also sometimes I just, idk, he's smart but sometimes can be so dumb that it irritates me.
the plot? idk I shouldn't judge bc I skipped around too much due to the FL so I might've missed a lot of important things. The premise is good, I love the good-feeling vibe with all the stones and jade gambling, but mmmmmm yeah, characters need work.
WB and TJT's father died (& it's revealed how TJT's father had an affair w/ TJT's mother and how WB was sent to scare TJT's mother but ended up killing her)
ok the story is ok, I particularly enjoyed having an interesting ML (knowledgeable in insects, which isn't something I've seen before). The backstory isn't like, new? but anyways its kinda average+. The cases are definitely interesting and I find some extremely gripping and the others just kinda ok, so overall it's like a solid good. Character-wise, the ML is really good! And all of the main + support characters are pretty nice as well, but besides WB i feel like there's really no 'gray' character per se in the main/supporting characters. Everyone who's 'good' are just white, and everyone who's bad is just kinda black. Relationship-wise, I'd say the uh the relationship b/w TJT and WB is a bit kinda awk? Like, I'm trying my best to get into the bromance but its just so awkwardly forced sometimes that I just can't. (Note that I don't ship male characters I'm really only after the platonic familial relationship rather than romantic interests). So WB+TJT is not my main brotp in this one, though I do prefer TJT's friendship with the cop Li XiaoSa more because it's more natural and funny. Romance-wise? mmmmm idek I spent most of the show thinking wow this FL is actually such a pretty nice friend and then on like ep 16 or something they were like 'o hey TJT likes her a lot' which I didn't even realize I just thought they were really good friends. So yeah, there's that. I like to think they're just A+ friends bc the show overall isn't really focused on romance that much, so you can take it however you want.
The ending? mmMMMMMMMmm it's a sad but hopeful ending, not exactly something I would prefer but I really find no fault with it other than not my taste.
ok still on first ep but just wanna say the intro is 200% epic, the transitions and parallels are so seamless that it's heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time

this is a collection of all the abnormal series posted by the producers
