The story could have also changed to make her a traitor lol. In the novel, Xiao Weiran doesn't betray fl or try to kill her so who knows.

She's the one who said to chase the assassin and she's also the one who asked for them to split up. I just think she prepared with the chain mail in mind, if it wasn't there, her plan would have most likely differed accordingly. All speculation though

I don't think so. I think without the chain mail she would have been nore cautious. There's no reason for her to not be alert when she already knew Xiao Weiran was lying so she likely left herself vulnerable like that to trap him.

It's a completely different story in the novel for the worse imo. No amnesia, no one trying to kill fl, fl obsessed with sml at the beginning, ml is kind of a loser especially when it comes to sml, both ml and fl very immature amd impulsive but more so the fl, ml has a concubine and also seems to fool around at the beginning. The only things that are similar are ml's sister being obsessed with sml from one encounter, although in the novel it's just seeing him. Spoilers from the novel are kind of useless since everything is so different.
A spoiler that might stand is that ml's sister will get manipulated by the 2ml's brother(emperor) into thinking fl is using both ml and 2ml while actually being a couple with Ning Fei. They probably won't use the same storyline but might keep the manipulation. Ning Fei and FL's clingy friend also become a couple in the novel

I read 27/140 chapters at the beginning and the last like 10 chapters so take what I say with a grain of salt. In the novel sml isn't exactly deceitful/double faced, he's completely emotionless except for when it comes to fl. Even when it comes to fl we only know that he cares because of internal monologues otherwise he also never shows that he cares for her in a romantic way.
