In the drama it seems fl and sml promised to marry after the battle shown at the start based on her memories in ep 7/8. So I'd say fl and sml are former superior-subordinate and lovers.

I wouldn't care too much about what happened in the novel because things are very different in the drama. In the novel, there is no amnesia. FL is very immature and impulsive in the novel. FL is beyond OBSESSED with sml in the novel. ML is honestly a loser in the novel while sml is constantly praised to high heaven by everyone, it almost feels like he's the ml whenever he's around. The drama's plots and character personalities are very different. The novel is also mainly focused on fl.

A short summary of how the novel starts is fl is 17, obsessed with sml. sml gets the arranged marriage for peace. fl attacks his "entourage" on their way to the marriage because she doesn't want sml to marry ml's sister. She kills one of sml's generals and he shoots her in the shoulder but she doesn't fall off a cliff because of it. She instead jumps off the cliff by herself because she loves sml too much. Dr lady rescues her. 4 years pass and her squad finds her and brings her back to sml. She's still obsessed with him. ML then appears and kidnaps fl to force sml to marry his sister. After a bunch of nonsense, sml leaves with the sister while fl stays in ml's palace as ordered by ml's father(ruler) because he doesn't want her to get in between sml and ml's sister who's also obsessed with sml. All this time sml is basically getting glazed by everyone while ml is just pathetically jealous after falling for fl in a few days. After that I skipped to the end where it's revealed that sml was made a eunuch thats why he couldn't be with fl. ml is still constantly jealous of him and fl's old army mates where also telling ml that they will take fl away if he doesn't take care of her so the 100+ chapters I skipped where probably just as lame. I doubt sml is a eunuch in the drama since we're shown that he and fl promised to marry after the battle. It's honestly a completely different story and different characters, just using the same names and some themes. The only thing that's remained the same is ml's sister being obsessed with sml after a single encounter. The novel is worse in that regard though because she falls for him after just seeing him not because he "saved" her like in the drama.

She's good but more annoying. In the novel Yi Xiao and her have a 4 year friendship before the novel truly begins so it makes more sense for her to be so attached to Yi Xiao there but she's still really annoying imo.

In this case it doesn't really matter because the drama and novel are very very different.

Don't read the novel, it's almost a completely different story. The drama seems to be a light adaptation. Imo it's a terrible novel. Like you, I got excited because of the first 6 eps and tried the novel for about 20 chapters. I want my time back, what a waste.

That plotline seems to still be there unfortunately, also from just one look🤦‍♀️. I refuse to watch princess royal because of what everyones says about 2ml. I love Jinmai but I can't stand annoying 2mls getting a lot of screentime.

Honestly understandable. I regretted watching moonlit reunion live instead of waiting for all the episodes to release because of the 2ml.

In the novel, ml honestly feels like a second male lead. The actual sml is described like some divine being by everyone , ml was even amazed by his aura at some point. ML has also never beaten him in their many years of war and gets agitated from just hearing his name. He's honestly kind of pathetic in the novel. Drama ml and fl are much better, will just have to see how sml is in the drama.

So far, it's a very light adaptation. My frustration comes from that I really enjoyed the first 6 episodes and wanted to see how those 6 eps play out in the novel only to be met with a mess. As I said, ML and FL's personalities are very different in the drama compared to the nove,l so for now atleast, I wouldn't be too worried about ml being a simp. There's also no amnesia in the novel so I'm hopeful it doesn't end up taking too much from the novel.

Tried reading the novel but gave up around mid 20s. FL is OBSESSED with sml, ml falls in love with fl after a few days of torturing her and holding her captive. I would be fine with it if he wasn't so pathetically in love that he no longer acts like a prince/general after just a few days of meeting fl. ML's sister is also beyond obsessed with sml after just one meeting like the drama BUT in the novel she acts much more unreasonable and essentially doesn't care about her brother or father who seem to care for her a lot, she only has sml in her brain.

I honestly hope the drama continues being a light adaptation, just those 20 chapters honestly infuriated me. Yi Xiao and Feng Suige's personalities are also much better in the drama imo.

Same here, I loved shadow love but I wish they had a bit more enemies to lovers trope in it. I also hope fl is strong, the most disappointing thing for me with shadow love is that fl didn't really shine in combat compared to ml. I get that ml was basically superman but I still wish fl had a lot more badass fight scenes or leading troops moments . Fated hearts looks really promising in that regard. Zhu yu is another one that seems to have a strong fl but the trailer kinda makes me think it will be more like shadow love, where ml is a lot stronger.

Speaking of strong FLs, currently holding off on legend of the female general because I saw a clip about a marriage edict that pissed me off lol. I'll wait until I'm in a really good mood to start it.

I used to think the same way after reading Si Jin and Coroner's diary novels but the more I read the more annoyed I got at other novels. In most novels, the ml is constantly groveling at the fl to take him back after some dumb misunderstandings usually even cause by the fl herself. There are a lot of reverse harems. The ml personalities in the novels are usually terrible and toned down in the dramas. There are also a lot of messy relationships on the fl's side with sml, itsa plus for people who like love triangles but I end up just wondering why ml is sticking around. When the novels are good(Si Jin, Be passionately in love and Coroner's diary for me), it's impossible to make a drama that does them justice but a lot of the novels are also just bad imo. Off the top of my head, Hidden love, go back lover and you are my lover friend have dramas I loved but absolutely hated the novels. It's mostly because MLs are creeps(idk why authors like having the ml kiss a sleeping/unconscious fl and framing it as romantic) or just plain pathetic. Ended up ranting because I had high expectations of the novels but the 3 I mentioned (Si Jin, be passionately in love and Coroner's diary) are all magnitudes above their drama adaptations even though all 3 dramas are some of my favourites.

I agree. It obviously might be nothing but they put the scenes of her having these "minor" health issues for a reason. Hae also told her to get a checkup because of what happened to him but that might also have been alluding to something

I think he's irredeemable. He's just done so much bad/irresponsible when thinking about it carefully. I wish more kdramas and cdramas had leads cutting off their shitty parents. The way he treated all 3 women he was with is bad and more importantly abandoning 2 children without parents/guardians while he went to live lavishly. The latter is just too much imo.

I don't want ml to forgive and reconcile with him, I also hope ml's stepmother leaves him. If Sunwoo and/or Nu Ri atleast had another parent/guardian then I might want to see them reconcile but he was all they had, and he left. Not even gonna mention wanting to dump Nu Ri in an orphanage because she isn't his biological child.

I never said she should stay with him. You understand that they both did bad things towards each other because they were on opposite sides so why couldn't all the other people in the show? Why are they acting like he's the reason she died? The sml was the same, why was he given this dumb "moral high ground" to test the ml's love for her when he's done so much stuff to hurt the fl. Everyone close to fl treats ml like he knew she would die when he didn't beg her to stay with him. The doctor friend pissed me off so much at the end. Evsn before that, she was treating the amnesiac ml like he still had his memories and was purposefully hurting fl ignoring all nuance

Guess I'll catch the last episode to see if they find a way to cure the incurable terminal illness. I hate the terminal illness trope/plot with a passion. I was really enjoying this as well, honestly really annoyed that I have to drop because I really like the main leads' interactions

Great watch. Last episode was kinda annoying. Why are they blaming him?? He tried to make her stay atleast 3 times but she kept pushing him away whenever he tried. A lot of cdramas do this, everyone including the ml himself, unfairly blames ml when fl gets hurt. Outside of the 2 main leads, Qiao Er was my mvp till the end.

Dropping on episode 14. Can't stand how the plot makes the fl extremely stupid at times just to create misunderstandings. If the roles of ml and fl were swapped, the things she did wouldn't slide.

Typical evil sml always gets soft endings/"redemption" no matter how evil they are. Really enjoyed ml and fl, as well as the secondary couple but we really should have seen more of the story with them as a couple without the amnesia influence. Last episode obviously needed more time of them happy together but that's also typical xianxia, so whatever. Still a disappointing ending imo, really wanted atleast half the episode to just be ml and fl happy together with no problems.

Echoing a previous comment, in cdramas ml is usually shown loving the fl magnitudes more than she loves him and that's no different here.
