He's being a jerk for 6 episodes and preview of 7th episode shows he will continue to be. He is super smart for 5 and half episodes, but all of the sudden he is this idiot that can figure out it was something his mommy and aunt did/said that made FL pull out. He wants her to trust him, but he himself doesn't trust her to have VERY valid reason for breaking up.

I hate how they try to compare this "historically accurate" drama with Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austin was ahead of her time. She managed to open and discuss so many ambiguity of her time, and jet to write warm and beautiful love story.
I won't go deep, but mr Darcy's reaction to Wickham's "brothel activities" is pure disgust, while our ML here goes to 2nd lady to tell her she should suck it up and, how dares she to disapprove her husband's cheating.

The problem with this drama is writing! It brushes off toxic things like they were nothing and tries to derive comedy out of abuse and toxicity.
For example: the scene when cousin pretends to be fighting the kidnappers and rolls in the mud is good comedy, UNTIL he enters the shed and we realize that his wife is kept there all night tied up under the bag, traumatized. It is NOT funny any more! If the exactly same scene happened right after they defeated kidnappers, it would be good comedy, because no one got hurt by their actions. But, the way it was written, that scene was pure garbage. Imagine yourself in that situation, waiting all night to be raped, killed, sold... alone... blindfolded, with rug in your mouth, under the bag, struggling to breathe... in fear… not something you laugh at. Well, psychopaths and sadist will laugh hard while watching someone being abused or traumatized, but emotionally healthy people won’t.
So, not good scriptwriter(s) for this drama. With better ones the storytelling and timing would change a lot in a favor for this drama.

LBFAD - He is a demon with NO feelings at all and SMART writer introduces the curse right away, which prevented him to be brutal abuser toward FL => which resulted in us rooting for him to change. He didn't hurt her at all!
TTEOM - didn't watch because of abuse.
LYF - ditto
SOKP - ML was abusive during PTSD episodes and was rude from jealousy, but he never harmed FL. Many viewers dropped drama in disapproval of red flag ML. His back story is heartbreaking, you can feel for him.
GBMP - I don't know what this is.
KMLM - Very fast in the story we learn how he was wronged terribly and that he faked being psychotic murderer, so with a little of empathy you can connect with him.

On the other hand... All male leads in this drama are rich, protected, pampered, spoiled brats, without any worries in the world, and jet (for NO REASON at all) they treat other poorly. ML literary hits FL in the head with a ball because she dared to defend herself. Who does that?! He tries to ruin their existence by ruining their business. He and his cousin pretend to be kidnappers to "make their women more obedient, to teach them a lesson". Or for fun? Who does that?!
Now, all this may be "historically accurate", like some love to say, but something ugly and abusive being "historically accurate" won't make some viewers appreciate it or emotionally connect to it in a positive way. Thus, some might write their negative thoughts about this drama on this comment page.
Some viewers might love abuser trope x5, so they will praise the drama.
I have a feeling this is going into "taming a man" direction, so I will give it a try for few more episodes.

You have extraordinary TV series Pride and Prejudice from 1995. Yea, it's a bit "old", BUT very detailed, very well written and faithful to the book. BBC production. That movie from 2005. borrowed original story, but there is nothing of Jane Austin in it. For start, sisters were ladies who lived in the manor not in the pig sty. And, to be fair, it is not easy to pack the whole book in a movie.

It will be lost on this page since it will get overwhelmed by other comments and I think it would be the shame, lol. That is why I suggested it. I understand. My point was that I didn't feel any Austin's vibe, thought there is huge possibility that dynamic between sisters was inspired by P&P, there are some similarities.

Tbh, cheating husband and Wang Xing Yue's characters are childish (in a very disgusting way) but in real life it would be possible for them to grow out of this bs. But, that one who flogged 1st lady in some video shown on this page, or the one meant for 5th lady, consort's something-something or the dude who set up adopted daughter for rape - they are vile and there is no way for them to "grow up". Their behavior is not childish, its psychopathic, abusive... call it all names in the world.
P.S. Put this "rant" as a review.

My modest opinion: it's not the same. In P&P and Emma men on surface show respect to women, even if it's not for real, but here all men (SO FAR) are openly obnoxious and some even toxic. I guess there will be some serious grow arcs for all of them. You should try like first 4 episodes, and than decide for yourself. Happy watching.

ML "working hard" to ruin business of young girls without backup wasn't the best choice in script-writing. I get it, they wanted to show us how childish this man is, trying to make her damsel in distress where he will become her knight in shining armor. So, in a way, wrong and ridiculous, both at the same time. But, it still left sour taste in my mouth, tbh. Not something knight would do. I guess that was the ridiculous part and men in this drama are everything but knights is shining armors... Just the way men really are, lol.

That is so disappointing to know, since that drama had one of the most obnoxious ML I've ever seen in C-dramas.

They exaggerated everything. Like, there was no need to drop tons of s*it over and over and over on FL just to show us how baaaad it was for women back than. They did that for drama and emotional impact, of course, but I take that as really weak writing. And, than, to make it all even more stupid, FL gets out of deathly situations with such an ease. I mean, really writers? Another exaggeration.
They could ended part 1 with nice, warm ending, but they just couldn't restrict themselves, so more s*it with concubine. She could easily be introduced at the beginning of part 2, through flashback.

Oh, it is not about Canada, it is about Greenland. Ice is melting, there is way more open land on Greenland than 100 years ago. Small amount of people live there, most of them are Inuits without any sort of support from anyone. And, Greenland is VERY rich in all sort of natural resources. It is about resources and access to North sea Canada has.
But, this is politics, and I'm not sure if we are allowed to talk it here, lol.
So: May it end in the best possible way for honest, ordinary people!

As Soocrafty suggest, you might try to check out The Imperial Coroner, to see if it's up to your liking. It is case solving drama, they solve several mysteries, that are all connected. Romance is not the focus, but drama has 2 adorable couples.

I have no idea. That is why I asked. I thought you were from USA. There was a ban of tik tok there, but I don't know if something changed with new government.
