You are right but new Shifu behaves like a typical cliche character of c-dramas "Extremist dude stuck with his old ways" and as dangerous as enemy. FL motives are clear ML is a prince and Emperor wrongfully punished and executed FL family (father) due to which, she was forced to marry the original Cui guy.
