You are watching a drama about two generals who command an army and expect them to play fair or not to take advantage when the other show weakness or a flaw that they can explore at least in the beginning until they became lovers. The fl was raise as a boy and has to command respect from her men, don't expect her to act all demure and show weakness just because she likes a guy.

I don't see that as being pathetic i see that fl is a gray character and is willing to use whatever means to help her negotiate for her own side. If she was a male instead of female many audience would not fault her as a general and even like how dark the character is, but just because she is female she's being call pathetic. For ml he is attracted to her and he's not afraid to give in to her demand because he wants to negotiate for her and her army's help. Sometimes in negotiation giving in to small thing will gains a bigger return, i don't see ml as being a simp but a very smart general he's willing to throw a hook to get a bigger catch in my opinion is a very smart move on his part. That was such a beautiful moment between the main leads spending their time together with their cat; the ml is a cat owner so he would've notice if the cat was uncomfortable.
