Wow, the double standard is actually wild here.@Aries21, you commented over Tuo’s kiss in Episode 1, calling…
Seriously guys, calling out problematic behaviour doesn't mean you have to come to mydramalist to make announcements of your every thought.
Demands like this are excessive... "No comment. No outrage. Nothing. Yet you claim you “immediately call out problematic sexual behaviour when you see it.” That is a textbook double standard...You asked, “Why do I have to comment on that scene at all?” You didn’t have to — until you publicly claimed you always do. If you hadn’t said that, nobody would have questioned your silence. But you set that expectation, and when the moment came, you conveniently avoided it."
I totally get what you’re saying, and I respect that perspective, but I feel a bit differently because of the…
Quote NLE: "From your (@Aries21) explanation, you seem to accept the forced kissing in Secret Relationships because SuHyeon and JaeMin’s actions were framed as “abusive” and the characters didn’t end up together. But in this series, because Tuo and Jun Xi are meant to become lovers, you see a similar moment as automatically “ROMANTICIZED.”
ROMANTICIZE definition -to deal with something or describe something in an idealized or unrealistic fashion; make something seem better or more appealing than it really is.
The ROMANTICIZATION of abuse in relationships is portrying abuse including dubious consent as passionate, love, or making abuse seem acceptable or even desirable.
When abuse is framed as abusive it is not ROMANTICIZED, when abuse including lack of consent or dubious consent is framed as passion, love, desirable etc. it has been ROMANTICIZED.
If in Secret Relationships SuHyeon and JaeMin’s actions were framed as “abusive” then BY DEFINITION THEY WERE NOT ROMANTICIZED. In Secret Lover Tuo and Jun Xi's relationship riddled with consent issues, is not framed as abusive, therefore BY DEFINITION IT IS ROMANTICIZED.
It's a travesty they made this show this plotless. I looked up the manga this is supposed to be based on and that's…
"Secret Lover" is a Taiwanese BL series adapted from the Japanese manga "Itte Owari na Wake ga Nai!" (イッて終わりなわけがない!) by Komeoka Shigu.
Itte Owari na Wake ga Nai! in English: There's no way we're done after cumming!
Riku and his friend Takuma have had a crush on the same girl since they were children and have competed for her all along. For this reason, Riku has always considered Takuma his rival. They were usually playing rock-paper-scissors, but at some point, their betting games have become kissing and hand-job competitions! Takuma's experienced, and his d*ck is huge... Nevertheless, Riku's determined to make him c*m first and win the competition. However, while Takuma's giving him a hand job, he kisses him fervently, blowing Riku's mind away...! The competition is between a pushy popular guy and a virgin who hates losing, but neither of them is willing to give up!
This is far fetched. Yea both mains are handsome and acting well along with support cast but script stinks. Too…
It's a travesty they made this show this plotless. I looked up the manga this is supposed to be based on and that's some crazy source material. There was so much potential to make this a show with a compelling plot, even if you toned it down a little. There's so many interesting ways Han Tuo could have fake dated Jun Xi, challenged Jun Xi and proven to Jun Xi that he is the one Jun Xi likes, not their mutual friend.
LOL! The BTS. But what’s with Asian men and their obsesssion with touching each other’s butt? It’s always…
It's not just Asian men. Male team sports, for example, are rampant with butt grabbing, despite those male sports supposedly being centres of traditional hetero masculinity.
All those homosocial interactions, including that butt grabbing, are generally considered non-sexual (just about dominance etc.), while homosexuality involves sexual attraction. However, there's actual research on how male homosocial behaviour can be motivated by underlying eroticism. So dudes are just overly repressed by social expectations. 😄
when the author said not to read the book she’s so right 😭 the more i read the bigger my ick. i’m gonna…
LOL I read some chapters, but really selectively, because I've made that mistake before.
Honestly, for me, the one thing that would've really made the relationship between WSW and CC feel more grounded in the show is, if the NC elements were somehow less old school, less of WSW flailing, panicking and offering prudish denials and less of the yaoi like fixation on pain. It would've felt truer to Chi Cheng's dominant character, if he'd had a talk with WSW and confidently told WSW "this is on me, I will make it good for you, trust me".
Anyone have an english translation of the novel that they like? Finding it hard to find a high quality one
https://www.wattpad.com/user/HOEUNHOEUN I've read a few chapters here and there, it's in 2 parts. 1st part revenged love chapters 1-200 2nd part chapters 200+

While I interpret the first scene differently (not as an order, but as permission to do that and leave the boy…
I rate all shows for the parts that I like too. I do not excuse objectionable parts, but I don't quit on shows simply because they do something I don't like, if I find them otherwise interesting. I am not an all or nothing kind of person.
Like I said, I rated Revenged Love an 8. I'm not about to faint over the rapey issues, I think people should be able to talk about the problematic parts.
While I interpret the first scene differently (not as an order, but as permission to do that and leave the boy…
There was nothing insulting about my comment. When a person objects to a rape threat, they are not required to find any nuance to the situation.
You said: "I'm discussing it on a different level than you are." I got that, you are bringing his motives into it, and I was pointing out that if you object to the rape threat, you are not interested in other levels, like his motives, and therefore do not bring them up. It was a response to you saying you are surprised, people don't talk about why he made the rape threat. You said: "... but which I surprisingly haven't read in any comments..."
I said: "CC's reason for the rape threat is pretty clear if you have any emotional intelligence." I used 'you' meaning 'all of us' a passive form. I did not imply, you specifically, don't have emotional intelligence. I was saying most of us can see his motives.
While I interpret the first scene differently (not as an order, but as permission to do that and leave the boy…
"...Which resonates in this threat, but which I surprisingly haven't read in any comments: It seemed to me that he was giving vent to his jealousy.... he is jealous of their closeness and familiarity, coupled with fear of loss led to this threat in my opinion. But the behavior is simply problematic!"
CC's reason for the rape threat is pretty clear if you have any emotional intelligence. The reason people aren't giving it as an excuse for the rape threat, is simply that they are not okay with the rape threat. CC's motivations aren't relevant.
(I like this show for WSW's crazy seduction plot that turns into real confusion 8/10)
Let’s be clear: the series follows the original novel very closely, and as clearly stated in the disclaimer,…
You come across really patronizing. "Lets be clear...lets be consistent..." You talk about this being fiction like people don't understand the concept. You talk about the gang rape scene not being explicit, like that changes things. You talk about what iffs like that is relevant when the message was clear. You don't seem to realize that ordering a gang rape can in fact get you charged with said gang rape and therefore makes you a rapist. You talk as if people don't analyse and criticize fictional content worldwide.
You really think saying ,"Characters are not real. Actors aren’t their roles. Viewers are capable of understanding that." is somehow profound and a conversation stopper.
The OP was giving their opinion about fictional content, with full awareness it's fictional, because that is what people do, all the time, all over the world.
bad things happen in life. rape is one of the bad things that happens, just as murder is one of the bad things…
This particular show isn't that evil coded, that is why the casually presented gang rape feels so out of place here. There are levels to ruthless and evil and this show and that scene do not jive together.
I think they want to show how savage and ruthless he is. (or was?) it’s a common trope where the monster only…
This male lead CC in this show, might be ruthless, but he is not that evil coded, not even to the level of Vegas from KinnPorche. That is why the casual rape order is so jarring and generally a stupid choice by the production team.
So, as pointed out by sarina and cloudest here, the ML is a r@*ist. Why is no one talking about that? Is everyone…
People have talked about it. It was not smart to put that scene in the show. Some people cannot tolerate a critical discussion on this subject. They think if you like something, you have to excuse the bad parts and even defend them. That is an unhealthy way to look at the world and will lead to trouble. I like the show and I will watch it, but that part was especially tone deaf.
Demands like this are excessive...

The rating is supposed to include the opinion of all kinds of people, not just the ones that give a show a 9 or a 10. That is how ratings work.
