You assume everyone that takes issue with the abuse in Ep 1 is ignorant of BL history and culture specific traditions like danmei and yaoi etc. We know about this, but knowing about something doesn't mean you have to agree with it completely. For another example, I will never agree with the way the Thai author JittiRain wrote the sex scene in 2gether, that was glorified abuse not two people that were into each other. I know BL has these rapey historical traditions, but I don't have to agree with them. I'm okay with dubcon in certain situations, but dubcon and noncon aren't an acceptable baseline for everything.

I can disconnect from infuriating writing up to a point. I like gray and dark themes fine. My frustration is that shows still just randomly make themselves look dull-witted and pro-abuse.

Yes, he is written too off-putting. With a fictional unhinged romantic lead, murderous I can get over, but rape and killing pets, not so much! Does he kill pets, I hope not. I'll put the gang rape under a bad decision by the production team, and see if the rest is watchable.

WTF! There's unhinged villainous leads, and then there's rapists. Why did they choose to make the main character enable gang rape? What the heck is wrong with the people that make these shows. This is not that dark of a show overall, so that was not consistent with the tone. Rapists and enablers are not romantic leads. One more show that I can't recommend to anyone, even if I like the rest of the series. These weird producers are making it harder for themselves for NOTHING!

Mainland is a geopolitical description. The geopolitical area under the direct governance of The People's Republic of China is sometimes called the mainland. Embrace the absurd! It's cheesy and tacky at times. The silly military inspired royal costumes and some clonky plot points take me out of the story. You could totally write a better fairytale, but it's been watchable. Trying to understand some of the choices made, gives me flashbacks to Manner of Death, where I couldn't quite figure out, if they made the police uniforms too small on purpose, Tom of Finland inspired reasons, or by accident. 😄

This show deals with kinks. If you are unfamiliar with what kinks are and how Dominant/submissive dynamics work, it's not uncommon for you to feel uncomfortable.

Their country is called Emmaly, sounds like a place where My Little Ponies live. I wouldn't be surprised if they brandish milk frothers in the future.
