I just knew this article was by Ebisuno! Thanks for another insightful article into Japanese cinema. I love Waterboys…
Thank you for reading and kind words, @kitty10! Words of appreciation also go to Joe Shiren because he contributed significantly to sections about later movies by Shinobu Yaguchi.

Thank you both for this interesting article! You succeeded again in tempting me to add more titles in my PTW lists…
Thank you so much, my dear penel! I admit that if it had not been for @JoeShiren's encouragement, I'd probably never get round to working on this article.

It's great that you have seen so many of the director's movies! I like all of them, but My Secret Cache and ROBO-G are just unique and extraordinary :)

Aww, thanks! This is just a drama review anyway, I didn't put too much thoughts like you did with your articles…
I clearly see that you pushed this text (and formatting) to the limits :)

It's great that you watched it! Personally, I did not mind the child actor. I think that it was his only movie experience ever, but Kitano directed him perfectly :)

Kitano is undoubtedly an extremely versatile director. Kikujiro is one of my favorite movies of all time. Simplicity…
To be honest, I was a bit suprprised that Kikujiro is the name of Kitano's character, not the kid's :)

Thank you for reading, shaz22!

It is interesting to know that some of his writing stuff was actually translated into English.

You are absolutely right. His paintings are amazing!

Thank you for the comment Cho Na! I'm so glad to hear that you liked Kikujiro. In the modern age of slice-of-life dramas, it is indeed a unique and touching story. There was also a behind-the-scenes material released called Jam Session. I found it raw, but you can clearly see from the documentary that Takeshi is a down to earth guy who tries to maintain good atmosphere on the set.

When I read the title on the front page, I was almost sure you were the author...Thanks a lot for this detailed,…
Thank you so much for the comment, Sumi!

I was hoping that you may confirm Kitano's fame in France :) That book of Kitano's which you describe sounds very interesting!

I personally recommend both A Scene at the Sea and Kikujiro. If you really don't like yakuza themes, then maybe it is best to give a pass. Then again, it is a very unconventional movie, that's why I greatly enjoyed it.

Tbh, I also try to collect DVDs in my area like crazy. Unfortunately, the only Kitano movies that were released here on physical media were Brother and Zatoichi.
