Interesting interview. Do you have any more information about the "poll among North Korean refugees"? Did Chosun…
Thank you for the comment!
Since we can't handle Korean language like a boss (at least not yet), we could not verify the information. It appears in Mr Schonherr's book "North Korean Cinema: A History".
I love his book Trashfilm Roadshows!Cool article, an amazing story, super interesting interviewpartner, and many…
Thank you for the comment! We are glad you enjoyed the read. Indeed, Mr Schonherr's Trashfilm Roadshow is an interesting book.
I would like to stress that we tried to make our text as original as possible. It is not in any way a reprint of the source which you provided. Recurrence of some answers is purely coincidental.
Additional response from Mr Schonherr: "Of course, some of the questions and my answers covered the same ground as that old interview. I did however on purpose not read that old interview again before answering your questions - hoping to come up with new ways to answer similar questions. They are totally different interviews."
Definitely interesting to see a more informative article on MDL and about North Korea's film industry! My only…
Thank you for the comment! Unfortunately, it is difficult to get an up-to-date, first-hand account on North Korean film industry. Some factors should be taken into account:
1) Not many productions are being made under the Kim Jong Un regime, 2) Not many Westerners had the opportunity to actually go to Pyongyang and check out the industry for themselves, 3) North Korea was the first country to close its borders due to the pandemic and the ban has not been lifted to date.
FYI, we have also reached out to one more expert with the hope of doing a second interview, but our proposal was never answered. So, we also have to respect the willingess of the experts to share their stories.
In view of this, we all the more appreciate the fact that Mr Schonherr agreed to do this interview.
