Don't most great heroes are like that? Beside, in the real historical figure, Li Yan manage to defeat his enemy Qiu Shi Liang in his 3rd year of his 6 years of ruling time.

Yes, he really did. It could be viewed as his strength & also his weakness, why he stubbornly live like that. And he was played so beautifully by Cheng Yi, that made us really care for Cheng Xu & couldn't bear his suffering. And for all its worthed, Cheng Xu at least tried his best to achieved his goal/dreams. The loss is in the hand of the people who didn't appreciate him enough, and wasting precious time consumed by distrust and anger.

Cheng Yi told about his childhood life, that he is actually very naughty and like to swim a river near his place (but it is rather deep so actually not very safe) and getting scold from his family because they were worried.
And he told about his daily work in filming, although it is summer and really hot, but he is used to it and just enjoy working because he really loves his profession.
