On Till the End of the Moon Sep 10, 2022
Might as well change the title to "Till the End of the Drought" or "Till the End of Infinity" because it seems like we'll be waiting FOREVER for new content. We didn't even get anything for Moon Festival. :')

Episode 24 is my favorite episode so far! I was still hurting over ep 21 so to finally have some semblance of calm and fluffiness just heals my heart. I also love the slight changes they especially the flowerpot scene. Next week's episodes will be covering my favorite scenes from the book so I'm really reaaally excited! <3

First of all, let me just say that it's as if you read my mind, put my thoughts into words and wrote this article because everything you've written is all the reasons why the historical romance genre is my favorite among all genres of c-dramas! THIS IS AMAZING! *gasps*

Anyway, I totally agree with everything you said. I think it also helped that my first foray into c-dramas was a historical romance (General and I) which was then followed by another historical romance (Eternal Love my absolute favorite cdrama) then another (Ashes of Love) and another (Goodbye My Princess). I tried watching modern romance dramas but I just couldn't get into them as they didn't have the same magic, the same spark, the same wonder I felt with historical romance dramas. There's just something about the latter that transports me into a whole new world and a different time where, as a self-confessed history and culture nerd, I wish I could've lived in. The love in those times was definitely organic and palpable and real and my hopeless romantic self honestly hopes I find a love like that in this lifetime too. Alas, until then I shall remain as single as I have been since birth. xD

Of course, aside from what you've listed I would like to add the amazing, heart-wrenching OSTS. This genre honestly has some of the best OSTs. The combination of Chinese traditional instruments plus the emotional lyrics to the songs always brings me to tears. Goodbye My Princess, Eternal Love and Ashes of Love are some of my favorite OSTs.

As for my favorite dramas, they are listed in order below:
1.) Eternal Love - Bai Qian and Ye Hua. A Li. The OST. The story. The costumes. Oh and the fact that I'm still suffering withdrawals from this drama ever since I finished watching it in 2017. This has the top spot in my heart and even is my standard when it comes to choosing historical dramas to watch.
2.) Goodbye My Princess - Xiaofeng and Li Chengyin's true, passionate yet tragic love still haunts me to this very day. The buckets of tears I cried since I watched and re-watched this drama has become innumerable. Coupled with the hauntingly beautiful OST and I'm crying all over again. This drama broke my heart all over again but I still re-watch it as often as I can. Am I a masochist? Maybe. xD
3.) Ashes of Love - Jin Mi and Xu Feng and their trials of love had me at the edge of my seat. The will they/won't they had me biting my nails in frustration. And again, the OST. Shucks, the OST. Honestly, what is it with historical romance dramas and their OSTs? Why are they so darn good? T.T

Once again, thanks so much for writing this article! It's such a relief that there are many people like me out there who are old souls and who love historical romance dramas as much as I do. I apologize for the long comment. I just couldn't help sharing since the subject of the article is something I'm really passionate about. Anyway, I look forward to reading more of your articles in the future! :)

When I saw the title I immediately thought "If Bai Qian isn't here I'm going to riot." But she's here and I'm more than happy! xD Bai Qian is and will always be a freaking Queen to me! This list is filled with fierce and empowered women and I'll be sure to check them out when I can. :)

I feel the exact same way. When I had just got into Kdramas in 2014 everything was just magical , entretaining…
Totally agree with this! It feels as of the moment that Chinese dramas are the best in Asia right now. Korea better take notes because it seems like it's getting waaay behind.

I've been in a slump for a while. Glad I am not alone. I've been switching countries and genres. I think that…
Chinese novels are awesome! I especially love historical romances. I love all the scheming and the plotting and the drama in the harem and yes I totally I have the urge to kill or strangle someone e.g. the pretentious b****es. xD

I can totally relate with your article.... I thought that I was the only one being like this. But those last few…
I relate to this comment on a spiritual level! xD As of the past 2 years or so, Chinese dramas have my heart and soul. 40+, heck even 60+ episodes don't faze me anymore lol.

Sameee! I'm definitely leaning more towards c-dramas now. I don't know exactly what it is but there's just something…
I have! And I've also watched the next two, I just haven't added it to my completed list hehe. xD It's my favorite Japanese movie series!!! Omg Takeru Sato is legendary as Kenshin and he even did all his stunts with no wirework! :O

Yep there's gonna be another two movies next year that will cover the last arc of the manga that wasn't included in the anime. It's gonna be the conclusion to the movie series. When I found out I was so freaking excited!! I didn't expect there would be two more movies. I'm not complaining though. I'll always want more of Rurouni Kenshin movies! <3

Lol I feel you. Like "Nope you can try but I'm gonna stick with TMOPB. Thank you for your drama recommendations though!"

OMG please please PLEASE continue GMP!! It's such a beautifully tragic drama but the story, the cast and the OST makes up for it. The first half of the drama gets pretty angsty especially at the end parts but there are fluffy and romantic parts in between that can heal all those sad moments. Also there are 4 special eps that you can watch on Youtube that will help you get over the bad ending. All the 4 eps are pure fluff so rest assured there won't be any angst. I agree about the leads though. Peng Xiaoran and Chen Xingxu have such amazing chemistry! Please I hope you give GMP another chance! :)

Story of Yanxi Palace was awesome. I haven't really finished it though because I was watching a bunch of other dramas at that time. I'm planning on watching it again though. UnfortunatelyI'm not really keen on the styling because I'm not really a big fan of the Qing Dynasty style. The story's good though so I might stick it out.

I rewatch their scenes so many times because I just can't get enough of their chemistry!! It's so hard to believe that one of them is married and the other is divorced because their love onscreen just felt so real. I'm hoping they pair up in another drama soon!

Omg do we have the same mind or what? xD I love Ashes of Love too but it's still just second to TMOPB for me. TMPOB is just on such a high pedestal when it comes to my favorite c-dramas. It's freaking untouchable for me. <3

Goodbye My Princess comes close after Ashes of Love because omg ALL the feelings, the pain, the love, the angst. I normally stay away from tragic dramas because I cry easily but holy smokes this drama was AMAZING. It freaking HURT and I cried my heart out but it was AMAZING. T.T

Yes! It's my favorite c-drama of all time! I've probably rewatched it for like a thousand times and I still don't get sick of it lol. Yang Mi, Mark Chao and the rest of the cast and crew did such an amazing job. I'm hoping The Pillow Book will be able to live up to the hype and to the standard it has set. :)

Li Chengyin from Goodbye My Princess!!! I just love and appreciate his character so much because he started out as a kind, loving character that was shaped by life and circumstances inside the treacherous and conspiracy-filled imperial palace that caused him to become manipulative and scheming himself. I could probably go on and on and wax poetic about him. He's just such an interesting character! ????

Yes Chinese historical dramas definitely takes the cake for me! I feel like they ruined me for any other type of Asian historical dramas. xD Palace politics, the scheming, the multi-faceted characters and omg the costumes, cinematography and OSTs just make me crave for them more! <3

I also haven't watched Go Go Squid but reviews have been good so maybe I'll also check it out sometime. Thanks for the recommendation! :)

Hmm I don't really watch a lot of romcom c-dramas. I'm more into the historical/xianxia/wuxia genres, though it's understandable why you would dislike chinese historical dramas. They do tend to end in tragedy. Hmm as for romcom recs I would suggest Go Princess Go. It's historical but it's different because it's really funny. The fl is really hilarious and lovable. Put Your Head On My Shoulder is quite good too. It's based from the novel from the same author who also wrote A Love So Beautiful. It's also better than A Love So Beautiful for me because the heroine isn't really stalker-y or childish. She's driven and very level-headed. And the male lead isn't that cold-hearted too. It's also not draggy. As for Taiwanese dramas, if you haven't watched Fated to Love You yet, I would also recommend that. It's one of my favorites and has the perfect blend of comedy, drama and romance. Ethan Ruan and Joe Chen are also amazing in it!

So yeah would definitely recommend Go Princess Go, Put Your Head on My Shoulder and Fated to Love You. :)

You don't have to apologize at all! I totally understand where you're coming from and 100% agree with everything…
Aww thank you so much! And I agree! Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms has ruined me for the xianxia genre and for Chinese dramas as a whole. xD It actually has even become my standard when it comes to choosing c-dramas to watch.

Sigh I felt the same, which is a shame really because I adore Yoo In Na and Lee Dong Wook's pairing so much because they have such amazing chemistry and they play off each other so well. Sadly, one of the things I realized recently is that no matter how much chemistry the leads may have, it won't help much if the script isn't well written, the pacing is all over the place, the plot doesn't make any sense and it's just the same old trope with nothing new all over again.

Ooh I'm actually looking for a new drama to watch right now since I just finished watching one. I'll check this out for sure. Thank you for the recommendation! :)

For real though. 16 hours of binge-watching is too long. Now, I actually prefer binge-watching in a span of days instead of hours since it's not too draining and I can pace myself. So don't worry it's not weird at all! :)

I was just passing by trying to find some good dramas to watch, and I find this article .. I need to admit I felt…
Sameee! I'm definitely leaning more towards c-dramas now. I don't know exactly what it is but there's just something about their dramas, especially their historical dramas, that appeals to me so much. Nowadays, I find it hard to stick a Korean drama I really like but it's so easy to get hooked into a Chinese drama and binge-watch it in 2-3 days.
Tae Sep 18, 2019
Oh my gosh this article speaks to me so much. I was originally such a huge k-drama fan (Princess Hours, Boys Over Flowers, Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Goblin are some of my guilty pleasures). But I noticed in recent years that k-dramas didn't appeal to me that much after I stumbled upon c-dramas. For instance, the same giddy feeling I had when I watched my favorite second couple from Goblin didn't affect me as much when I watched Touch Your Heart. I dropped the drama before it ended. It just... didn't have the same feeling anymore. Also, I used to balk at 40+ episodes of a drama but now 50+ heck even 70+ episodes don't even faze me anymore as long as the pacing is excellent and the plot is written beautifully. I guess it helped that I had consecutive wonderful experiences with c-dramas that started with my first c-drama General and I then Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms followed by Ashes of Love and recently Goodbye My Princess. It was one amazing c-drama to the next and I think that's what truly converted me into a c-drama fan. C-dramas for me have a way of making tropes seem new and fresh and I'm always looking forward to that. Hopefully, k-dramas will have that magic back again because at the moment nothing appeals to me anymore. :(

PS. I didn't mean this to be a comparison between k-dramas vs c-dramas and cause a disagreement among drama fans. It's just what I've noticed in myself as an asian drama watcher in recent years. I didn't mean to offend anyone and if anyone did I apologize in advance. m(. .)m

OH MY GOD AAAAAAAHHHH *screams incoherently* Ju Jingyi and Zhang Zhe Han together again!!!! I loved them together in Legend of Yunxi!!! They had so much chemistry. Plus this is a historical drama (and I am such a sucker for historical dramas because the visuals, the culture, the fighting scenes ahhh)!!! CAN'T FREAKING WAIIIT!!! ????????????????
