Shen Shu isn't in XQA's mirror though, he's inside of him. Really hoping season 2 is announced soon, this turned out to be an amazing show despite the bad reviews earlier on.

However, the vision they show Shen before killing him, saying that you should know the truth before you die and the emperor is there seemed to me that the emperor was aware all along. Which is why he sent Qi there, he knew he would die. No wonder he went crazy when Qi returned with Zhenbei's body.
