Ooooh! So it's a spin-off! It's been a while since I watched Fune Wo Amu, so I was wondering what was going on as the story was so different from what I remembered.
I surprisingly like the protagonist. In that type of trope (the "they meet as adults again after a bad relationship in teenage years"), the MC is almost always wishy-washy and whiny, even when the ML is doing everything he can to get that trust again (I blame the success of Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi).
But here, the MC is cute. He is still angry at the guy, but without it being over-the-top hate, and his mistrust is understandable. And because of that, we can understand why the ML is attracted to him, as he is not a jerk, but is just putting clear(ish) boundaries between them. The ML isn't in love with the MC only because they had a thing in the past, he finds the grown-up version of the MC even as charming as his teenage naive self. I like it's clearly said he fell for him again, not just still.
It's a trope, but it's done in a nice way! So, I'll wait for ep 3 hoping for quality.
The pacing can be way too long as time, not because the story isn't interesting, but because they drag a lot of scenes and stuff to get to the 36 episodes count. Especially during the university days, some are were way too long for their importance. (not that those arcs were bad... The idea is good but not for 4 episode when it could have been put into 2).
The story, characters, and acting are all great.
Unfortunately that dragging made me skip a few unnecessary scenes or watch then 2x speed.
But watching everything is worth it. The main couple is heartbreaking in their love. The main heroine is really nice to see. She is not a perfect Mary sue, but she was always so fiercely loving and loyal. She had so many reason to walk away but she loved him to death.
I remember people making gasp of incomprehension when he kissed her. Like "wtf is going on". Of course I like the twist that he was in love with her from the beginning, but it doesn't change the fact that for a good part of the movie, I wasn't sure what he was thinking.
ikrr , like they literally made no harsh comments , and all the performances were good too obviously and the atmosphere…
There were a few contestants who sang off-tune... While their vibes were good, the techniques weren't. But I liked that the judges knew that it was normal they weren't good : they're not professionals.
I love how less serious it is compared to other survival idol shows. They let the kids breathe and don't try to destroy them. I do like those more serious ones, but it is nice to see something different, where they let them do what they want and let everybody vote, and that's how the ranking is decided.
ENA is paid cable and also new channel get famous because of attorney woo success and KBS is old and free public…
Unfree TV channels will have less viewership than free TV channels. But their impact is as big. For example, a drama from KBS/MBC/SBS which hit 15% is very good, and it can be considered a real success, but nothing "groundbreaking". A drama from ENA, or JTBC which hits 15% means that EVERYBODY and their mother are talking about it, and the whole nation is watching, either on TV or online. It is groundbreaking.
You don't have to compare the two. For a cable channel healing melodrama, Tell Me That You Love Me is actually doing well.
it feel like the writer wasted this drama potential by adding so many plot in only 12 eps ...he/she wasted literally…
The love line, search of Kiho (the bodies are part of it so okay), road to success and the abusive father were all in the trailer so I was expecting it (and kdrama = romantic triangle/quator, so okay no surprise here)
But Ranjoo's storyline is kind of too much for me too. I love the character and the actress. But I so don't care about that contract, and the company shares, and the lady in the hospital, and her numerous flashbacks... For someone who supposedly love singing to death, we don't even see her trying to sing again even though she physically can! Take more time to put actual musical scenes like them producing the album. Or Ranjoo talking about music or the world of entertainment. Music shows, variety shows, coaching in interviews, coaching in social medias... That would be more interesting, and make it believable that Mokha is becoming a singer.
She was on a very successful show, with a huge scandal, but we haven't see Mokha answer one interview...? Or her talking with a journalist. Or her having non-toxic fans.
We have lots of songs, though... Even she still haven't made an album. π
I love MokHa's decision, but my heart was breaking for Kiho when he was preparing the apartment... Nothing really melodramatic was happening but I was crying so much watching him buy the stuff and clean up the space. That man is just way too loving. He silently did what he had to do and left. π
Isn't this also true for 2nd couple? Liming was spending time with Heart, communicating with him when nobody else…
2nd couple was really cute, of course, but they were not really like what I explained in my previous comment. π
Maybe I wasn't understandable, but what I liked is the realism, the maturity, and the silent looks of the first couple. The second couple gives you butterfly, one "saves" the other, changes his world, changes his family, etc.... it's pretty dramatic. They look at each other and have butterflies in the stomach, "he is my world ππ". The looks of the first couple I was talking about is the mature one? Idk how to explain, but they don't feel like they have butterflies when they look at each others. They love each other, but it's like the old couple feel. π
The second couple was cute and tragic, with family "against" them, the social difference, the fact he is deaf, etc... It's very different as to why I love the first couple : the simplicity. The realism.
Of course some couple faces the struggle of the 2nd couple, but that's still pretty rare. The first couple, I feel like I see a couple like that every time I go out. That's what I liked.
Watching dramas, I love to watch characters who have "not realistic" or at least a little dramatic lives. Because if you want 100% realism, watch documentaries, not dramas. But it was nice to see something so realistic and such a normal romance story about 2 very normal adults.
Anyway. Just to explain, as I think you misunderstood my first comment π
And for the age gap, I don't care. I forgot they were supposed to be 15 years appart. Thanks to the two actors, I could imagine Earth's character being like 30-35 and Mix being 23-25. So understandable that he's teasing about the "uncle" thing. Never really thought about it that much π
But they seem pretty sure that they're not each other's type (that moment was so fun)... Casting-wise, I can see…
I always assumed that saying "you're not my type" is just a way to say that you're not interested in them/don't see them that way.
It's not really about the "type", they're just not interested, and needed to say it.
I do agree that we haven't seen enough of their dynamic together, though. We do see a lot of scenes where they talk and are alone together, but nothing really happens like the scenes with Momiji/Tsubaki, Yoyo/Momiji or Yoyo/Yukue.
For the moment, we haven't seems a single moment where Yukue has any interest in romance at all with anybody. Tsubaki just got out of a wedding so he's not really into a good mindset for it. Momiji got a looooooooong time crush on Yukue that he doesn't want to act on because he knows (assumemaybe? Yukue never clearly said she wasn't interested, just said she pretend she doesn't know because HE doesn't want to date her or confess) doesn't like him and wants to cherish their friendship. And Yoyo got a thing for Tsubaki which I find very cute.
But that's all. The only real romantic tension we have at all is between Tsubaki and Momiji, which the show seems to acknowledge from the number of times they laugh at themselves for the way they talk. But I do think it's just friendship and the writers are just having fun with showing a healthy friendship between two very sweet guys. But nothing between the guys and girls at the moment (we're only half way, still got time).
I also always think about the begining of episode 1, where we see everybody as a child suffering.
Yukue said she was always bad at "making" a group of two. Tsubaki said that people would not let him make a group of two (even if he tried/wanted to). Yo-yo said she was always afraid to face up/confront people one-on-one. And Momiji said that people never wanted to face up to him one-on-one.
I can't help but ship Tsubaki and Momiji - too bad that they won't become canon. But seriously, with their therapeutic…
With the way they act around each other, if they weren't straight, i would assume they have a crush on each other. π€£ But I love their friendship that's for sure π
After watching the last episode, I now ship Tsubaki with Yukue and want them to end up together. I just like them…
But they seem pretty sure that they're not each other's type (that moment was so fun)... Casting-wise, I can see that couple, but scenario-wise, I think Yukue really needs that friend connection with Tsubakiβjust a friend without anything else. Maybe later in the drama, but right now I don't see them falling for each other (even if they do look good together). Same for Momiji and Yoyo, they obviously look good together and have chemistry, but I cannot see them falling for each other.
I don't know if I like what they're doing with Momiji's character. He seems WAY too nice for his own good, but…
I could see from miles away that Yoyo would have a crush on Tsubaki, and it's cute even if I think casting-wise, Yukue & Tsubaki are endgame. Momiji having a crush on Yukue since their childhood is not cute, though. Just awkward.
But here, the MC is cute. He is still angry at the guy, but without it being over-the-top hate, and his mistrust is understandable. And because of that, we can understand why the ML is attracted to him, as he is not a jerk, but is just putting clear(ish) boundaries between them.

Like, it's gonna be especially bad?
I remember people making gasp of incomprehension when he kissed her. Like "wtf is going on". Of course I like the twist that he was in love with her from the beginning, but it doesn't change the fact that for a good part of the movie, I wasn't sure what he was thinking.
There will be plenty of drama in the future...
I do like those more serious ones, but it is nice to see something different, where they let them do what they want and let everybody vote, and that's how the ranking is decided.

It's a weird season.
Half I liked, half bored me to death.
