Baby Ruolan only had 2 modes: asleep or crying her face off. Loved Lin Yu Shen as MRF (and sadly the only male character with classic wuxia hair.. I get that this is Qing dynasty but the shaved fronts for men were not doing it for me!) Also I usually never watch a drama without a Romance tag but this one was not so bad. Very complex and more about the hero's journey and discovery of truth.

In the second chapter, they are portrayed by older (different) actors. I would comment that they are not as romantic (although they weren't overly romantic in the first one) but he is still there in the second chapter. Unfortunately, in the third chapter, his character has passed away.

I actually think the ML reminds me of Song Wei Long (from Go Ahead)!

I can't believe I finished this.. and that this series got a 3rd season (so many better dramas waiting for sequels). But to clarify, I believe the little boy is Zhang Jing Mei's little brother (remember the scene when he first mistakenly thought she was pregnant? But then turned out to be her mum's baby). So this boy is her second brother (surname Zhang like her). The little girl is the daughter of Zhang Jing Mei and Long Yi (surname Long) so her uncle (舅舅 for mother's side uncle) is the little boy. Also, the little boy's relation to Long Yi is that Long Yi is his brother-in-law. Hope this clears it up.

Just finished watching. My understanding is that both Xiao Zhao and Lin Lin have the same mum but she died when they were younger. Presumably after she died (or hopefully not but possible while she was still alive, this was not clear), the dad had a love affair with the FL mum which resulted in the FL. So birth order of Xu family is: Xiao Zhao, Lin Lin, and then Ming Wei.

We just finished watching Dating in the Kitchen and he was great in there! But then we came to his MDL page and were like WTF?! how is this the same guy? Can someone please change his picture?

I just finished I'm a Pet at Dali Temple (and yes I was coming for Xu Kai Cheng!). I agree with your analysis.. it helped that it is a fairly short drama and their love story development up until the 2nd to last episode or so was not bad. But agree with almost everyone that the ending was HORRIBLE!!! (So take with a grain of salt)

Great article, enjoyed reading this for your opinions on historical vs modern romances. I used to only watch modern C-drama until I saw Princess Weiyoung and Ashes of Love and now I am hooked on both. And also loved your take on 虐, definitely agree that is a major plot point in historical dramas!
