Romance unfortunately is a very secondary plot line (only a kiss in the last 10 min). But the actual history and making of Xuan Paper is quite interesting so I think this is still worthwhile to watch just for that.

I hate how bad guys didn’t really get any just punishments (I know it’s not the central focus but it really bothers me). To my recollection, evil greedy FL mom really doesn’t get any punishment after the senior college paper scandal (after she faints, you don’t hear about her again, just how guilty FL feels towards ML parents). And even worse is the Chairman (and stupid VP Zhang and that assistant chick) who does such shady s*** and there’s no jail or anything for them??? They were guilty of forging the sketches but then that’s it? At least tell me that their IPO went off the rails. But I guess they are just secondary non-important characters. Zhang Du and Jiang Er Hu have character development (somewhat) and do help towards the end goal of the 3丈3 xuan paper, so good on them. Romance is not that much, a final smooch for them is pretty much all you get. But I like how supportive ML is towards FL, especially in the aftermath of her mom’s selfishness. He is the one that lets her know that she deserves to be loved and he is willing to love her, and knowing that her mom is her mom, she is she. 8/10

Nice drama, not enough watchers, but unfortunately I wasn’t super satisfied with the following:

I hate how Xiang Zi didn’t really get punished! All he had to do was publicly apologize and maybe get prosecuted for Jason’s death (but it wasn’t clear that they were 100% going after him for it). I also hate how her parents never apologized and instead were just “bought off” with Wang Fa’s dad’s investment promise. And the sequence of events in the last episode kind of threw me off. But whatever, those are relatively small things. Everything else still enjoyable for me, 9/10.

My heart broke when his character died in The Heart 2.. stupid writers! You already killed his dad and now you had to do it to him too?! Ugh

Wow what a twist in ep 10!

He is my absolute #1 but I have a real disdain for her since her poor acting skills in a lot of previous works (especially the other Fireworks one). So I have been putting off starting this… but first jasmine is nearing the end and I need something else. I’ll consider it now it’s past the halfway mark.

Just finished after taking a long break - the 2 end (maybe) couples are Bing Gan (cookie?) and Wang Jing Wen, and Chao and Hu Di. A Hua and Yu Qian had an ok parting (going back to friends) but Yang Yang and Guo Guo ended on very bad terms.

Yea..if I remember correctly, the show never mentioned who is his bio dad.. the audience just knows he’s a deadbeat that Li Lan Fang left her own family (remember, she was adopted by FL’s maternal family). But then somehow she ends up with another deadbeat Xing Guo Dong, who is Grandma Zhou’s son. I think most townspeople did not know that Xing Wu is not biologically related to either Xing Guo Dong or Grandma Zhou.

Highly doubt it…sounds like a plot for him to fake his death. I don’t think this royal grandson/SML is going anywhere anytime soon.

No kiss but this is not classified as a romance drama, so not expected

FL thought “ben gong” (本宫) was the princess’s first name because of the way she (Princess) addressed herself (poking fun at FL’s lack of upper class knowledge). It was pretty funny

I don’t know how I got to this page but when I saw the cover photo I thought I was looking at Wallace Huo!!! Man, Lin Yu Shen looks sooo different here!

Sorry to burst your bubble! There was like an HR lady or something in the last meeting that said they can only pick one.. but yea, I guess they don’t show us who got it so we write the ending in our own heads. Either way, I’m pretty peeved I went through 24 episodes just for that.

It was kinda resolved (ish). She seemed to be more sure in their romance and that he doesn’t self-sacrifice just because of his dad’s connections/law firm. So they go into the interview on equal standing. But other than that quick kiss under the light, they don’t kiss again :/ what a waste

It was a very WTF ending. You (the viewer) don’t know who got it in the end (it was down to a “final” interview between Ren Jia Tong and Jiang Chen bc Xiao Yu decides to take herself out of the running and focus on her live-streaming career). But you don’t actually see the result of it. And then there’s a post ending where you see next years recruits for the Jun An Ji Hua and that Huang Yue is in there (so she decides she wants to come back to the workforce). I am not sure if there are any additional/special episodes but I don’t see it in my Tencent app.

There is a little, but it’s more like a subplot and doesn’t get evolved until the latter half. However, I still recommend this show for its beautiful scenery and embroidery! Nice healing drama

Do you mean the last episode? I’ll try my best to remember. Basically Jing Yuan spends half of it being nostalgic with the Empress (calling her mother for the first time, blah blah). Then he cooks for Lin Er and they’re teary and she holds him and says she doesn’t want to go back. But he pushes her away and then the “system” talks and says it’s time for her to go, or else she will disappear forever too. Then she wakes up back in modern day surrounded by assistant and director. They ask if she’s ok and if she can go on filming. She says ok, walks out of trailer, and then sees modern day Jing Yuan (who looks a little banged up, implying he probably protected her when the light fell in the first episode), who looks to be some type of assistant/crew member (and looking a hell of a lot better than Qing dynasty getup- sorry, I just hate the hair so much). They look at each other longingly and that’s it. Oh, and of course a water commercial haha - that has Qing dynasty Lin Er and modern day Jing Yuan hugging it out. Like in my first comment, I just hate how abrupt it was but whatever.. aside from that, the rest of the drama is actually quite good and I like how it evokes the original Princess Pearl story but then there’s all this “behind the scenes” caused by giving Lin Er/Jin Suo a romance line (I don’t think she had that in the original, I don’t remember much tbh).
