And can we talk again about THE LICK? How in the hell can something that gentle, sensual, romantic and lustful be disgusting or perverted? I remember, while in an extended relationship with a dude, once making up with him by slowly and just barely touching, licking his lips from top to bottom and all round, gently. I loved him so much and I lusted him so much and I wanted him to know that. When I was finished, he knew that. :D Mission accomplished. Seriously, I feel sorry for people who think the lick was repulsive. How can you put your private parts inside each other when you can't even touch tongue to lip?

People say "I'm not gay, I only like you" all the time in real life. It''s almost a required step in the process of coming out of the closet. If you got to skip it, then that's great, but it IS realistic and it IS a BL cliche. It's how things turn out that matters to me. Will they both maintain that position thru the end of the series? I don't know, we'll see. Or maybe I'll see, and you'll stop watching which would be a good choice as much as you seem to loathe the show at this point. The annoying commenters are the ones who claim to hate a show but keep watching anyway.

The "I'm not gay, I just love YOU despite your penis" is a tired plot device BUT it is also something that real, actual, human men often say when they are first beginning to come out of the closet. It's where we go from that statement that matters and the show is far from over. During my first and second gay relationships while I was still closeted, my BFs and I agreed we'd never been attracted to men before. We were both lying. People do a lot of that, to themselves and to others.
Real, actual, gay men who are struggling to come out ALSO turn to women who already like them as a convenient cover, or "beard." My god, that is as flawed and human a choice as there is; I was still doing it in my early 30s and so were/are many other men. Many millions of men stay in fake marriages their entire lives, never facing their sexuality and getting honest.

Why is it necessary to announce that their is ONE certain way EVERYONE ALWAYS reacts to something like that, implying that anything different is perverted? Everyone reacts differently to everything all the time. We are individuals, not automatons.
LC did NOT, this week or last, say watching MR masturbate is WHY or HOW he developed feelings for him, he expressed how hot it was too watch and how difficult to not take advantage of the situation. He did NOT take advantage of the situation, but admitting that he wanted to, which again is a very human response to something like that, is brave and admirable in my estimation.
What can I say? I think for the most part the actors and show-makers are doing a great job of blending cartoonish and dramatic elements into an overall style of story-telling. I don't find the changes in tone jarring at all.

The elevator doors slowly closing on MR as LC looked on, seemingly separating them emotionally for good, was a gorgeous moment among many. Yes, it's a BL and I wish they'd made some more original choices in story-telling but to say there is NO artistic merit here is BS. I'll ask a question I ask a lot: If you think so little of this show, why do you watch it?
Before wading into comments and probably getting pissed off (lol), I wanted to say that this series has morphed into one of my top ten BL series. In the beginning it was so slap-stick, camera-tricky and comical, then I got bored in ep 2, then the story started to grab me and now I love the whole damn thing, warts and all. My heart aches for all four of the leads and I feel like I get where all four are coming from even though their perspectives on what is happening between them and among them are so very different.
Beautiful, tender moments that rival any BL romance ever: LC's confession to MR was heart-felt and sincere...as was MR's reaction to it. The dramatic and comedic acting both are top-notch, second to none.
Misstep: I don't buy that even as much of a head case as YJ is, he would actually show his parents a video of him seducing XS, especially anything physical. Nor do I think it was in character for him to spew out all the info about them sleeping together. YJ is an odd-ball, but he has been methodical and patient in his pursuit of XS. I'm sure others will disagree, but I don't believe he'd spill all that when it really wasn't necessary. He knew his dad would freak out and, of course, have a stroke or something. I guess they did break with BL tradition here and have the father instead of the mother, collapse in a melodramatic heap at the news that their offspring are gay.
Kudos: To MR for confessing to Gill so quickly that he was pursuing her as a panicked reaction to LC's confession to him and his own reciprocated feelings. He was using her and he admitted it and apologized. The "gay panic" reaction of a guy in sexual crisis turning to a girl who already likes him as a means of reassuring himself he is straight is a very real thing. I know. I did it myself.

It's highly rated because the chemistry between the leads is powerful and real, they are touching and hysterically funny and sexy all at the same time. With that sort of energy at the center of a film you can get away with a lot of other shortcomings.

omg...there was nothing the slightest bit "rapey" about that scene. That's how real people having real sex look when they're doing it. I love how the sexual attraction between these two anchors their love right along with the emotional aspect.

Absolutely unique, with tenderness and chemistry off the charts to go along with the film's hilarious sense of humor. I've seen it three times now. Looking forward to watching the second film later this week, which is at least as good as the first.
Sex scenes in the link I included just below this comment are hot and a little off-beat for the rest of the film, but do a lot to anchor the rock-solid love at the center of this film as being intensely physical as well as emotional.

Third time watching this and it remains the first half of my favorite BL of all time. I love that DingDing is goofy and nerdy and not all that good-looking but has a beautiful, loving, funny soul and I adore him. I love that Za Ying is aloof, arrogant, confident and rich, overlaying a heart of pure gold. The chemistry between these two is utterly off the charts. The tenderness beneath their endless insulting/teasing banter is so sweet and palpable that several times I teared up just looking at the two of them together.
DingDing is the heart of this movie; none of it would work without him and the actor's unique way with facial expressions, physical tics, body language and all the rest. Za Ying is played near-perfectly as well, but his role is more subdued. He's the unmovable anchor around which everything else moves.
One reservation: That sadistic, mean-spirited "April Fool's Joke" that Za Ying plays is beyond cruel. I didn't believe for a second that ZY would be that vicious to anyone, let alone his DingDing.
Love the hot, near soft-core porn sex scenes too. They felt kind of strange, especially the first one, as compared to the mood of the rest of the film, but I liked that that physical passion was made clear as another layer that anchored their very unconventional love.
