Ida impresses me as a character, the more we get to know him. But Aoki seems to regress and act more and more childish. It's always been his character, but by Ep 9, I would have hoped to see some growth. Still, both are so adorable you can't help but root for them. Anxious to see how they wrap it all up next episode. One of the few BL that actually could use a second season to advance the relationship (if they end up together).
I'm enjoying this, but find the characters are grating on my nerves more and more with each episode. I like them less and less. That's a problem. There are ways to make a character introverted and painfully shy and still make him charming and appealing, Likewise, you can make a character arrogant and controlling and still give him positive traits. Wish they did a little more of that here. My guess is this is a fairly faithful adaptation that didn't bother to flesh out the characters. I also find the scripting/translation lacking. Seems like lots of assumptions are being made that are not supported. I'm glad there's only 2 eps left.
Overall, loved the episode. But it felt rushed to me. Winning the "contest" without really winning. Suddenly being boyfriends without really declaring they're boyfriends. Now we're kissing... A LOT. Some of the flashbacks felt unnecessary and then slammed into a "present" scene in the middle. Still, these two are amazing. I know they're acting but they gaze into each other's eyes with such great affection. It's really charming. - Also, while they have their downside, I did love Pran's Mom saying that he could love anyone he wanted, and then twisting the knife, "Just not the next door neighbor."
Dropped after 2.5 eps. Shame to see talented cast being wasted on this. I blame direcion/editing for quite a lot, although the script is very bad. Singto (who has always been very good) is horribly cast as the "conqueror". He has no idea how to play that role. What a waste.
I understand what you mean, but dating culture is different in every country, so holding hands can be a big deal…
While I agree with jpny01 (their lack of knowledge of simple dating etiquette is just crazy) I just watch this through my "BL" lens. In soooo many BL, they are shy beyond any real-life counterpart. In some series, they actually make love, then CONTINUE to be shy about kissing (when alone in their own apartments). I, too, had a girlfriend in high school before I realized I liked men. And we kissed on our very first date, held hands in public constantly and did more in full view of others - and this was decades ago. But in BL it's an alternate universe where innocence and naivete are more important than realism. How can it be a fairy tale if it's real? Aoki's over-the-top reactions are just a stylized/directorial choice. I'm not a fan, but again I just tell myself, "It's BL, get over yourself." Now, I can't argue with "no progression". They have each made very minor adjustments to their attitudes but I think this BL is going to end up with one very simple realization from Aoki at the end and that will be success to this team.
That bridge scene is my favorite of the series, so far. Aoki is so natural and relaxed, even when he's embarrassed. The performances are changing to match the subtle nuances as their relationship progresses. Very well done.
Ok. A little slow. Full of over-the-top characters. So far, I like the Yacht/Yoon pairing. Not a fan of any of the office-mates. Never seen a cockroach cause so much trouble, and my college apartment was FULL of them. Not sure I'll stick it out past Ep 3, but we shall see.
2 episodes in and I'm enjoying it for the unique main character. I find the idea of "slave boys", who must buy drinks and snacks and offer up their houses to classmates who despise them, to be an odd phenomenon. Where I come from, they would just be shunned and bulllied, not turned into servants. But that's just the culture, I guess. Also fascinating that the police can harass you for riding with 2 people on a bicycle. WHAT??? But looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.
Only watched Ep 1 so far and I was underwhelmed, despite Singto and Pluem (whom I usually like). Unlikeable characters, slow pacing, ridiculous plot elements. Not horrible, but lower tier. I'll watch a few more (at 2x speed) to see if the murder plot makes this any better but I have a feeling this will get dropped.
God I love these friends. What good people, all. Miscommunication rarely lasts more than a few minutes before they are honest and open about their feelings. If only that were true IRL. I do wish Shunsuke was a little more subtle/natural, but I'm sure he's been directed to be this over-the-top. I don't want this to end.
I was all Ohm going in, but Nanon is amazing. Great direction to convey those conflicted feelings so well, too. Despite the limited premise, this is turning into a real fav. NanOhm 4Ever. LOL
The mystery is somewhat intriguing, but the first episode was rather boring.
