I think they were meant to be complete idiots, not mocking Sikhs. If anyone took that as a serious depiction of…
Representation matters. If you show "Sikhs" as the bad guys - even for comedy - you're sending a message. I guess they have no one on staff at GMMTV who cares about these things.
Still loving it, but... I'm not a big fan of the over the top "comedy". They force the actors to go too big, which takes away all authenticity. Even good actors are having a hard time pulling it off here. Wish the direction was toned down a bit. Too much yelling. That said, I did LOL at the brushing teeth scene and the "no hands" popcorn scene. Also found the rapping yaoi twins odd, but kinda funny. Already aching for the next episode.
And I have to agree with "a-" below that the Indian/Sikh/Punjabi scene was offensive and inappropriate.
Just watched the series again for the 2nd time, because I am watching FUTS and remembered how much I loved Phuwin as Morn. He's so dorky adorable here and has grown into a handsome leading man. I'm happy he is now getting to star in his own series. This series has a lot of flaws, but the tender sweetness of the boys' love makes me forgive most of the problems and just enjoy a light love story. LOTS OF FLAWS... and I will say... worst Mother in BL. The fact that she's supposed to be an expert on sex/love and is so close-minded shows the writer didn't really understand their own characters. Alternately, one of the best Dads ever. Love MuadMoo and the relationship he has with all the boys.
Couldn't find the final episode, but was a cute bromance, well 3 bromances. Sweet, surprising. I'm not a big fan of supernatural stories, but these were all done well. Exactly the type of stories I'd expect from little little boys sitting around amusing each other. Would have loved more depth for each story, but went in knowing what to expect and was happily entertained. Will I watch again. No. But only cuz I'll save rewatching for BL series. But this made me appreciate bromance stories as well. A quick viewing for you to enjoy.
In many ways, this episode (#9) felt unlike any other in the series. There's a different tone, pacing, intent. Go back to the first episode and compare, see if you could envision this episode coming from that beginning. The beauty of this series is that this episode still fits perfectly in this world they've created and, as many have said, raised it to a new level. I am doubly impressed with the actual identification as gay. Setting this show in the BL-drama world and allowing the characters to speak their truth with no shame is a wake up call to the industry. What delights and surprises await? Can't wait.
You say you dropped it and yet you're still here commenting. Why waste your energy on something you obviously…
I’m so glad that you know everything about me and my viewing habits without asking me. FYI... I don’t watch the show live. I binged 6 eps when I had time. So I’m not 3 weeks behind. I’m as up to speed as I need to be. But please... go on assuming you know best.
Dropped after 6 eps. Not one character that I liked. Some really useless dialogue and entire scenes that revealed nothing. Didn’t believe the two straight boys would ever fall in love and felt zero chemistry between the couples. Very stilted, wooden acting (probably directed to be so). I’ve loved or at least enjoyed all of the others in this franchise but this was a snooze. I’d say I’m over BL and all it’s tropes, but I’ll keep trying other series (at least for a few eps each). Disappointing.
Dropped after 4 eps. I like the premise, I thought some of the ideas were handled in a refreshing manner, but it was too little to keep me interested. First I thought it was the pacing, which is laborious. But it’s really the direction. The actors are so flat and lifeless. They don’t react. I watched scenes where actors are looking off screen bored instead of reacting to what’s happening in the scene. It feels like they’re sleepwalking. But I don’t fault them, I think it was directoral. Then I read all the comments here and there’s no way I’m going to continue. There is no excuse for this kind of lazy writing. All it takes is a couple of lines to explain changes in actors. COVID would have zero influence on a writer in their room alone. They could have justified all the changes. Many of you will say, it gets better. But that’s not okay. Every writer and producer knows you have to capture the viewers attention from the start and keep them engaged. I don’t watch any show BL or otherwise, Eastern or Western and stick around through 8 or 9 bad eps just for a couple of good ones at the end. This industry really does not respect its audience if they think that’s ok.
I really like Sib lol. I guess because i can tell he really does care about Gene. He goes overboard with how he…
I agree with so much of what everyone in this thread has said. I know there are underlying reasons for Sib's behavior and it's true he must nudge Gene or nothing would ever happen. BUT... you can do all that while being honest, respectful, open and communicative. But then we wouldn't get a delightful concoction like this series.
I'm still having a grand time, but Sib is getting worse, rather than better, in my opinion. Stalker, possessive, authoritarian (on top of all the previous lies). Not qualities I want in my man. No matter how much he "loves" me. - But every episode makes me so happy with the progression of Gene's acceptance (of self, love and Sib). He's true to himself (and his character), and actually has rational conversations and honest communication. A great character played by a very talented actor.
Dropping after 2 eps. Not bad, but we've seen this story so many times already. There is nothing new or fresh about this series. Even the film quality and scripting feel like something from 10 years ago. Direction and editing are substandard, forcing the inexperienced actors to look even worse (acting wise, not "looks" wise). Feels like a low budget, amateur production. Also, all the half-naked promos make me uncomfortable. I know most of the cast is over 18, but it feels exploitative.
This was EH to me, while S1 was everything I wanted. The MC are a very loud HELL YEAH!, (there are times when these guys don' t seem to be acting at all. such warmth, intimacy and honest reactions) but this season felt incomplete. So much more emotional story to mine between the MC left unexplored, and how about an actual story for the 2 side couples.
Personality disorders are a fascinating character trait to explore... so explore them. Educate the audience in an entertaining way about people with these issues and show us how they might successfully navigate their lives. But don't diminish it by then having ANOTHER disorder - and then don't just disregard that second disorder just so you can force a couple together.
Happy to see a wedding proposal ALWAYS, but maybe spend some time with that couple and show us the struggle to get here.
I'll watch S3 because Yu and Sam melt my heart. But I'm not expecting much.
Cute, sweet and average. I liked it but I had to fill in a lot of holes with my imagination. So much left unexplained or just glossed over. The MC are really under served. Would have felt more if they took the time to develop that relationship more. My main complaint is the entire premise... a collab between baker and singer... never really happens. Don’t base your series on a premise you’re not going to fulfill. But a short and sweet bit of BL confection. Kane is adorable and I can’t believe he’s 28. He looks like a teen. Hope to see more of his work.
Oh good grief! WHAT?? An actor in a BL series who is ... GAY? Meaning - homosexual?? How can that be? Extraordinary.…
I agree. I don't need to know nor care about an actor's private life/sexuality (unless I hope to marry them some day). I too hope for a day when sexuality (and ethnicity, religion, etc) are not mentioned, when all are seen and treated as equals without "qualifiers". But you are absolutely right, that will not happen until we have brave LGBTQIA+ actors living their truth and showing the world that there is excellence in all.
And yes, media... please stop asking how difficult it is to play gay. Is it harder than playing a doctor when you haven't studied medicine, or playing a superhero when you have no super powers. Or playing a man in love with a woman when you're really NOT in love with that woman?
Just finished my second viewing, about a year after watching it the first time. Liked some of it more, some of it less. I think it was lightning in a bottle. No one has played an innocent better than Saint. Perth is perfect and aside from the possessive jealousy Ae is a perfect BF. I liked both Tin and Can more this time around and think they as well were perfectly cast in those roles. Noticed some subtle acting from both to indicate their changing views of each other that were very well done. Knowing a bit more about BL, it was interesting to see this in context with the other series it touches (TharnType). Still a top BL for me, though maybe not as strong as I felt the first time around.
On a side note, it always makes me laugh when BL characters insist you stay over because the drive home is too long. Twice they mention Ae lives "an hour" away from school. To me, that's a drive across town. But I'd stay if it was across the street.
And I have to agree with "a-" below that the Indian/Sikh/Punjabi scene was offensive and inappropriate.
