so Korean BLs are just getting high ratings by default because they're Korean, right? I mean, some of them are…
One of the worst setups for "enemies to lovers" that I've seen -- and I live for that trope so I've seen a lot of them.

Fall in love with the arrogant a-hole who is trying to steal your job? Riiiight.

I think part of this one's appeal is that people are fainting over how sexy Jang Eui Soo is -- proof if we ever needed any that BL first and foremost appeals to straight women.

I'm going to keep watching because I'm curious to see how they pull this disaster into the station -- the same reason I kept watching "2gether" lol.
On Youth with You Season 3 Nov 4, 2021
I started rewatching this series after a long time away from it and I'm finding that I enjoy it more the second time around. Knowing the outcome doesn't feel like a spoiler -- instead it has made it possible for me to bond with more of the contestants and to see if the production staff seems to already be showing a preference toward any of the eventual winners (which I believe happened on Chuang 2021.)

In "YWY3" I don't detect any favoritism, which I think has increased my appreciation after Chuang 2021 and its insistence on shoving Mika in my face every 20 minutes.

I'm up to Episode 8, so the first elimination hasn't yet taken place, and at this point I don't notice any difference in the way the series has been edited post-scandal.

The only change I've seen so far is that they renamed the "Expression" stage to the "I Want" stage in the subtitles and on-screen translations.

A couple of questions!

Does anyone know the reason for Hussein leaving the show? He was gone after that first round of Position tryouts where he was part of the "Gravity" performance by members of Class N.

And is there anything to the way some of the guys (like Jeremy, Jacky, and Hussein) wear little stuffed animals pinned to their clothes during a performance? It's endearing as hell.

I guess it shows how long it's been since I actually saw the series. ^_^

I tried but got to Episode 4 and just couldn't take it anymore. Utterly lacking in every way. It should be a crime to waste perfectly good actors on crapola like this.

It feels great to have expectations MET for a change.

The end credits are everything. If you're feeling blue waiting for next Friday just run those past you again.

It's the small details that matter. The moment of eye contact here -- the detail that so often is rendered in some stereotypical way -- was so well-integrated into the story that it didn't actually take you OUT of the story.

Oh god I'm so happy with this I could cry.

The thing is, it's still hard to trust Chef Choi's sincerity at just about every turn.

When he made that breakfast I would have liked the character more if he'd made something simple but tasty, rather than try to show off again by outdoing Chef Yoon with Yoon's own favorite post-hangover meal. And then Choi actually asked him to rate it. The guy should chill and be non-competitive for a few minutes.

Are we supposed to think that he followed Chef Yoon into the storage room and to the beach for any other reason than to get more info on what he's planning to make? It's a big contrast to Chef Yoon, who doesn't give a rat's ass about what Chef Choi is going to use in his dish.

The shivering in the storage room was done very well. They really looked like they were cold and uncomfortable. The only thing that gave it away was that you couldn't see their breath condensing as they exhaled. (What's the term for that, anyway? lol)

I'm enjoying the series but I wish I liked both main characters.

The restaurant owner is hopelessly unscrupulous. It looks like she could be the main thing that brings the guys together.

Also, I like how they preview the next episodes with photographs instead of video.

I thought "Fish Upon the Sky" would get my vote for the BL that squandered the most potential, but this disaster beats it by a mile.

"Top notch" is a bit strong, but definitely impressive for a first-timer - everything about him was impressive…
I think the "uglied" up James a bit for the role. In his profile pic on here he looks much better.

LMAO so true ... that was the best they could come up with?

For this whole series I've been thinking that a BL Cut of Leon and Pob would be the most worthwhile thing to come out of it, but now ...

Oh well.

Why do I feel like they know each other. Or, they've met before, but only Jung Woo knows Do Gun while Do Gun isn't…
You might be onto something. So many dramas put in that kind of a twist. It would certainly explain why Jung Woo seems to be singing that love song to Do Gun at the end.
On My Sweet Dear Oct 22, 2021
Jung Woo is not a nice guy. Throughout the first two episodes he's smug and annoying. Was that song at the end supposed to imply he's falling in love? Girl, please. The only person he loves is himself.

It will be interesting to see how the writers try to turn this arrogant ass into someone worth caring about. For me right now it's *yuck*, no sale.

The owner of the restaurant is a jerk too. Who'd want to work for someone who engineers this kind of sneak attack on your livelihood?
Replying to FrankIncese Oct 22, 2021
I know this is a fantasy, but the whole premise is ridiculous. No one would think that two competing chefs in…
The owner is evil to do that to him. His trust in her should be gone and he's demeaning himself by staying and entering a contest with such an arrogant ass.

On My Mate Match Oct 17, 2021
For me the series took a nosedive in Episode Two.

In the first part the conversation about Mix being in a funk went on about 4x as long as it needed to, and that set the trend for every scene after it getting stretched to the limits of human endurance.

And for the entire episode nothing really happened! They could have left the whole thing on the cutting room floor and nothing would have been lost.

Which isn't surprising when 10 minutes of material is padded to 40.

For me a messy roommate like Mix would make it pretty easy to decide between him and Ryu.

I hope things improve next week.
