This series is almost universally perceived as a bromance, or even a veiled BL. Which makes it the wrong place to look for feminist themes. Neither of the leads ever has a girlfriend -- their central obsession is with one another. Had the series been produced in any other country it would probably have been a BL.
"that incident" is the crux of their relationship drama. It was not "thrown in" somehow by accident. It was the…
I didn't use words to describe it because I wasn't marking my comment as a spoiler. Quit thinking you can psychoanalyze everyone. You make a fool of yourself.
I'm so taken with An Jun Peng's acting. What a great performance he's giving as Xingsi.
Lin Chia Wei as Youngjie has the most difficult role in the whole series, and I have to say that he's made his character believable and surprisingly sympathetic. I think a better writer would have been able to create Youngjie without having to throw in that 'incident', which is always in the back of my mind when Youngjie is in a scene.
The work crisis (I won't say more lest it be a spoiler) seems unnecessary. I wish they'd just coasted into their happy finale. Still, these later episodes have really made the series compelling. I'm glad I didn't give up on it.
I watched the first two episodes and enjoyed them a lot. Then I came here and saw all the pearl-clutching and realized this comment section is doomed.
BL Fans before watching Close Friend: "Quit giving us the same old tired shit!" BL Fans after watching Close Friend: "Wtf was that? Give us back the same old tired shit!"
The comments about implied bestiality are the funniest of all. Wow.
I'm not sure how I feel about this one. The ML is okay but to me he's not very handsome. (Great body, though!) I realize that for a viewer if one or both leads can't close the sale, so to speak, then the entire drama will suffer. As it is I'm not sure what he sees in the FL or what she sees in him. Yes, he carried her out of the chemistry lab during that incident (that he himself caused) but is that a reason for her to do a complete 180 and think he's amazing?
As for her, she's pretty but lacking in warmth.
I wish their standoff at the beginning had gone on for longer. They started to like each other too soon.
Eventually Jing Xi the idol gets introduced and things get lively for a while but then it's more 'lessons about friendship' and studying and following your dreams, and suddenly the idol comes across as just another student in the classroom. Why bother to make his character an idol in the first place? He could have just been a friend from her past who showed up and caused a stir.
I'm just past the mid-point of the series. I can't imagine what they'll do with the remaining episodes but I don't dislike it enough to drop it. I hope we get to university soon. The high school years are a drag.
This was good, but not great. I think maybe it was a bit too ambitious to cover 3 couples in such a short series,…
I think Fluke (TongFah) looks age-appropriate for high school. (Too bad his bio on here doesn't give his date of birth.) In real life a boy that beautiful would give me a near-death experience.
While he's my muse, Nice (Arthur) runs a close second. I'm ashamed to admit that I speculated a few times over how good in bed a guy like Arthur would be. (The actor is 25 so it's okay for me to think that way ... right? lol.)
I like to think that the sole reason he went to the prom was to be near Jeno and maybe even talk to him. Once he got there he couldn't find the courage to do it. In the back of his mind he dreaded rejection.
Then the teacher scolded him about needing to apologize to Jeno. So he did. Maybe apologies in Arthur's world are so rare that the idea hadn't even occurred to him until the teacher said something, and then it struck him as a good excuse for finally approaching Jeno. And then his worst fear came true.
Should Jeno have been a little nicer in that situation? Maybe if the series had made the bullying less violent and more of the taunting variety, the two of them could become acquaintances again. But I think the torment went too far and there was no coming back from that.

The mentors and crew will have other contractual obligations. The boys themselves might not be able to return due to other commitments.
I hope this hiatus is really short.

How ironic that it would happen during the time of COVID.
