I have been in SW place. I have been in love with someone so crazily but could not confess. I could tell he liked…
"He was already using his head (not his heart), why not use it correctly?" I would say angst (of one's own feelings) has won. And when fear kicks in, you act irrationally.
I think about this series from time to time, my all time fav bl. I wish there were more series like this (I need…
I would recommend The On1y One. It's developing slowly but steadily and it's the first time since ITSAY that I've had such intense feelings while watching it (even more so). It has knocked ITSAY out of first place for me. I don't know your taste. So I might want to warn you that the ending might not be satisfying. If you want more info, let me know. Otherwise, The Time of Fever was recommended to me because it's supposed to be in the same vein as The On1y One. But I haven't seen it yet. Edit: The On1y One has the same director like Your name engraved herein.
Jiang Tian noticed Sheng Wang had buttoned his shirt in wrong holes, so he unbuttons it and rebuttons it.But then…
Oh, that could be. I'm at that point right now. I thought it was intentional at first, but on rewatch you notice how he's holding the jacket and hesitating because he wants to say something (and be close to SW again,) like he normally does. You can see how he rejects the idea and then buttons up his jacket. Then he is the "normal" JT until Gao Tian Yang says it's buttoned up wrong.
Finally finished watching and I can't explain my attachment to the series what I did was just cry and then now…
Oh, I understand you. I needed 2 hours for myself after the end... And honestly. I feel pretty empty now that it's over. I've seen episodes of other series, I've switched to completely different western series and I don't feel touched. It's like I need a break to sort out my feelings. So I come here to connect with people who understand and start rewatching the series...
On a different note, I read that there is a Telegram group for ordering Wave Magazine internationally. Does anyone order? I don't have a Telegram. But I would also like to support them by buying a magazine. Maybe we can get organized.
It was sad reading your comment. It just sounds like youβre allergic to open endings, or anything other than…
I really like reading your perspective. Thank you π
"They communicated their love in every way other than by simply saying "I love you". I, for one, felt that "burn" in their every action and in the gazes they exchanged, it could be read between the lines in their every conversation. The romance was there" - I agree with that.
And why is suddenly everyone bothered about the rating? It's not that high anyway π
" People often use the ratings as a weapon instead of a tool." -You said it. I often have the feeling that there has to be a competition between series and one has to be better than the other. But you can also appreciate and enjoy series equally. But unfortunately that also says a lot about the viewers of the genre...
I now prefer to form my own opinion independently of the MDL ratings. Especially when it comes to very well-known ships, the rating is usually skewed in one direction or the other.

Yes, History 4 was exactly THAT...
All that Eric and Benjamin had to endure is the reason why I communicate my opinion about them directly to them. I don't normally do that. But I'm just glad that the international fans are showing them so much love... When Benjamin cried with emotion at the fan meeting, I was so happy that he could finally feel the love he deserves.

" I couldn't stand History 4 omg the step bro storyline was sickening." - Yes, yes, yes. I will never be able to approve of something like that...
I also find it crazy how people here sometimes try to devalue the viewers who like the series. I mean, you can have different tastes, but that doesn't make the people who like it worse in their taste or crazy or whatever. I also don't devalue anyone who likes series that I find superficial and not well made. Sometimes I enjoy even superficial series. The only line where I definitely say something is glorification of violence.
I know a rating is a very personal matter of taste and doesn't have to be objective. But I find it very sad and unfair to rate a series that is well produced and has really great actors (not just the MLs) at 1 because of an ending you don't like.
You're talking about the Douban rating, right? I read that the series was already rated 1 there when only the actors were announced and nothing had been released yet. Then the insults that they were ugly and Benjamin probably apologized after one of the first episodes for not portraying JT according to the viewers' taste... That breaks my heart. They are both so pretty and cute and are insanely good at acting. And all these fans want are actors who conform to their subjective ideal of beauty. I don't even think they would have cared about the nuanced portrayal. Eric and Benjamin radiated such naturalness in the series and the facial expressions and gestures were just great... I think the international success is a surprising stroke of luck and something that everyone deserves.
Why people aren't more lenient? I don't know... and it's a pity. Especially on the internet it's easy to insult people, most people would never talk like that if they were standing in front of you. You should always treat people the way you would like to be treated. And we can only try to set a good example.
And we can only keep our fingers crossed for the series and the cast and support them as best we can to increase the chances of Season 2. I had brief contact with the director and he said that rating is the credit for the team to make S2.
I think it's quite brave to assume other's motivations for rating this show... You already failed at understanding…
Oh I love ITSAY, but have only seen the first season. Makes me wonder if I should even consider #2. ITSAY was previously my No.1, The On1y One has now replaced it at the top of my list.
It's an open ending ... Definitely set for season 2, which will frustrate some people. If there is a season 2,…
I'm a fan of happy endings and can't really cope with open endings or sad endings, especially when movies and series trigger deep feelings in me. But these two are welcome to break my heart more than once... and even if there wasn't a second season, I'd be ok with the ending.
And why is suddenly everyone bothered about the rating? It's not that high anyway π
Perhaps some people here were hoping that the rating would drop because they personally didn't like the ending or they couldn't deal with their frustration because they had different expectations of the series. With Viki, it was easy to see that many people couldn't deal with the last episode. It went from 9.6 to 9.2.
The director could have made it so easy for a good rating and created a happy ending. But he decided to take a bold, risky and unique path. Honestly, Benjamin and Eric are pretty much the best actors I've seen in the genre. The story is solid and the show is super well produced, only the last episode has an open ending (and it's about your struggles in discovering yourself and not about erotic scenes at this stage) and that's why many downrate it. I always have to laugh when I see that History 4 is rated 9.4 on Viki, even though it trivializes abuse and then a well-told work, very good in terms of acting gets a lower ranking... It's always fascinating how people like toxic, but not inner emotional worlds and conflicts...

I'd say give it a go and form your own opinion. It's a slowly and extensively developing story, poetic, metaphorical and with a lot of symbolism. The MLs are terrific. By episode 5 you should realize if you like the pacing and the story, it stays with the pace and narrative. If you want to end with a little "happy ending", watch until episode 8. After that, the second MC discovers himself, which leads to the open ending. And that leaves a mark on everyone, some hate it, others are frustrated and hopeful, others find it fitting. I think it's a wonderful, profound series and I love Benjamin and Eric, for me personally the best actors of the genre. Have only ever had the kind of feelings they convey with PPKrit and Billkin (and maybe Sam and Yu). And it's an "innocent" BL until the end of this season which is about overcoming one's baggage and self-discovery. In my eyes, love swirls around the MLs, for others what they see is too little.
