Seonghyeon is such a cute little giant puppy. And his actor was on Wild Idol, though I didn't notice him at the time. The nugu idol/idol trainee to BL actor pipeline continues unabated!!
Honestlyyyyy. Looking at starlightboys this lineup wasn't half bad.
I'm not sure. The Starlight Boys lineup has 3 main vocalists. This one has 0. That's going to be a much larger issue than I think is being acknowledged. The teams without vocalists struggled throughout the show, and it limits the range of genres and concepts Close Your Eyes will be able to pull off.
My issue with this show is that many people seem to be watching and voting based on their favorite mentors and not who's most ready to debut. Also, these live voting results are ridiculous. I wish they wouldn't have such drastic effects on the lineups.
This show is tough for me because there's more than just 7 people who are ready enough to debut, so I'm going to be at least somewhat disappointed with the end result no matter what. Also, the vote stealing round was dumb. Shin Jaewon getting last despite being one of the two main crutches of his team pissed me off, and Andy in 5th place was BS, too. At least their teams won. My boy Atilla lost 50k votes.
So there's an uncut version on iqiyi now.... each episode is over an hour long about 20 minutes longer than on…
I thought it was strange that the show kept pushing the side couples despite barely giving them any time to develop. Turns out, it's almost all in the uncut version. 😅
The original series was deep, with a complicated (sometimes chaotic) plot and different, well developed characters.…
The problem with the original was that it tried to bite off more than its budget could chew. You say the characters were well developed (I mostly disagree), but a chunk of them weren't even in the novel, and then had their story arcs abandoned or aimless by season 2 anyway. Most of the side couples also didn't even go anywhere, and the antagonists were very 1 dimensional. In addition, the novel was almost strictly PhunNoh, so this version is actually more faithful by focusing mainly on them.
Season 2 itself was also an issue because it tried to jam 3/4 of the story into one season whereas season 1 was only a small portion of it. I admit I miss the feel and older cast of the original too, but honestly it hasn't aged well, and this new cast is doing a good job portraying the characters while the production seems to know what they're doing time management wise. I think Noh in particular is being portrayed much better than the original. I never liked how the 2014 version's Noh was homophobic at first for no reason and never seemed to return Phun's affection to the same extent, mostly because of Captain's acting.
