The drama ends its first airing tomorrow for iQiyi VIP subscribers (or those who skirt rules and go bootleg), it will end on March 24 for those who follow on iQiyi without having forked out for VIP privilege.
Last week, it was still among the top 10 web TV dramas watched in China, as #6 (after White Cat Legend, Yong An Dream, Chinatown Detective S2, The Hunter, and #1 Everyone Love Me with 565 points which is below the threshold for decidedly successful dramas, 600+), according to Marcus Sim's reporting. Totally agree with you ; I was also puzzled by that bird. Regretting they did not weave in more fantasy, it's not that difficult with CGI.
I thought the novel was more fantasy than what you describe: there was an interstellar angle, and xuanhuan elements, according to what I read about it (have not read it first hand : too long, lol, and I am lazy, therefore a c-drama watcher!)
Also, even if it is a conscious choice by the director, I rather disliked the pervasiveness of dark colors and muted pictures with backlight, too identical costumes. The story is not uninteresting but I too have grumbles.
If there's a season2, I'll still watch it. But then, they'd better not kill off everybody of interest at the end of this one!

About CZY and further to LOTL the drama not agreed on, you can also check the mini profile I did for Chen Xingxu : clicking on CXX's name in CZY profile, 2024 drama section will lead you to it. I was amazed at the time I compiled it, to find that CZY and CXX have so many similarities : both 27, both having decided to manage their own careers through founding their studios, both cat lovers, both tall models working for fashion and beauty brands, both liking Dilraba, both skilled archers, both fond of the songs Long Time No See and Little Star but not really good at singing... Their biggest difference is the fits of laughter of CZY who is a Southerner from Shenzhen, and the less expansive humor of CXX who is a Northerner from Beijing with a smaller fandom than the one of CZY.

I like to do multi fandom exploration, staying more or less close, at times, to the fandom of some specific ones, but not really a devoted superfan such as say, WuLeiGalaxy who compiles everything about Leilei on her own blog and Youtube channel.

Well, it may look like just a nod to the classics, paying homage to the great models, but Chinese language is full of such references even in daily life: it's in the culture.

Yes, it can't be a question of costume size, when Liu Yuning has done costume dramas repeatedly! And LYN is at least 2cm taller than LY (189 cm /187 cm). But I am not sure being tall is such an asset when wirework is required. Also, actually, I feel slightly annoyed to see those tall guys paired with midget actresses looking like dolls. I liked it that Liu Shishi was not a small size one, to pair with LYN in A Journey To Love!
I have not watched The Blessed Girl but will add it to the playlist then, since I am doing a twin watch of Everyone Loves Me and Angels Fall Sometimes (while viciously finishing the old LYN drama about Zichuan, that iQiyi is still airing : gloom and doom GOT style for those who like it dark.)

Well, I know, there's also the well filled ZLS page... I am not haunting all actors/actresses pages, only a dozen I'm partial to. And this one as preferred but not camping out here either all the time. Wondering whether there's a statistic to know which one of those pages is the most frequented, aside from the "Leaderboard" item which has him absent in the 100, or the flowers up on right side, where in fact he's got more now than Zhang Zhehan, but has "no follower"(what do they mean by that?? there are lots of FB fan groups, others on X, Ig, whathaveyou! )
