But okay, if this parrot does not keep interfering, and gets a good shower to keep its babbling tongue in check, then it is tolerable. Xing Zhi is not young !! He is the eldest god, ancient god, despite appearing "good looking". Lin Gengxin is totally fit to play the cold, old, jaded character, who haphazardly decided a match that he was not interested in, and on a whim let all go to hide down in mortal realm, for a rest from responsibilities that he grew tired of ! So he will warm a bit around the Cluck Cluck, but we are not really there yet. He has experienced old age and death to put distance now. PA fans ? Everybody is not hungover from Princess Agents. Matter of fact, this is one I still need to watch someday, but you bet I was convinced by LGX skills from other dramas already !

Not perplexed. I am quite enthralled by this drama. The ancient god should not be played by a too young man, so casting Lin Gengxin as Xing Zhi is perfect there. If you prefer juvenile stories of college etc then there are plenty of such dramas or mini dramas with sweet young items. Recommending Don't Disturb My Farming these days. It's mindless fluff but why not. I liked the countryside setting and the actors are not bad, have been noticing ML in another couple of minis including a costume one. If you want young people in costume then there's Ouyang Nana playing sweetly in Yong An Dream (although the never aging Jeremy Xu is no spring chicken in reality, but anyway, his perhaps last big role should not be looked down on. I liked him a lot and was surprised by the news about his decision last week).

I think you are right, after all he is a god, the last of the ancient ones, in the story, so he can have ESP and telepathy to overhear what others think. Since that must be annoying if no mystery is kept from him, he may have become jaded and whimsical which explains his strange behavior and wanting to go away for a while...

Phoenixes (Fenghuang) are supposed to seldom be seen and be harbingers of the ascent to the throne of a new emperor, and at the same time symbolic of Confucian values, wearing the characters meaning virtue, duty, ritual, compassion on their body!
Xíng Zhǐ (行止) sounds decisive and full of attitude (行止 = behavior!);whereas Xíng Yún (行云) sounded indolent, more airy and unattached, like drifting clouds.
Mò Fāng (墨方) name evokes 墨水 ink, seals, square things, obedience. but also a complication, such as in the Rubik's cube puzzle 魔方 mó fāng ; the pronunciation is also close to Fēng (疯 crazy, so will that one see his character change as if stained in dark ink murk and crazy infatuation? in wait for further developments!!)

Oh, the over-the-top harsh duty-bound c-drama mothers! Shen Mu Yue 沈木月 (Shěn surname, Mù yuè 木月, wood moon) reminded me of Chen Shaoshang's harsh-love mother in Love Like The Galaxy. And yes, it was indeed Zeng Li : a fine actress who can play in different registers, as shown by her interpreting the doting mother of Sang Zhi in HL! (just a couple examples from her recent roles). She manages to make her support roles stand out almost as memorably as lead actresses!

Lin Yi and Li Landi have proved that romance can touch on serious matters convincingly. Despite this is a story that has a heavy theme, lot of sad moments, hope is at the heart of it, and bringing experience in a meaningful positive way faced with what looks disheartening and bound to fail. Life is a struggle and there are moments when the hopeless spiral will seem to be invincible, but teaming up against it may bring solace and more shared moments of satisfaction, even joy such as in the wedding scene of the two best friends. Solidarity and resourcefulness are important. Examining what it means to be parents, not just caretakers. What is love, family support, and belief in life.
Some pictures were very beautiful, although the music sometimes got too hypnotizing, and side stories might distract in a double edged fashion. 9.5 for the wholesome and sometimes difficult messages, so well interpreted. Knowing that cures can be found for some forms of the deadly disease is uplifting in the belief that hope should not be abandoned on the difficult path of sufferers.
Kudos to Lin Yi and Li Landi for having tackled this story and made us love Lin Tuo and An Zhi Que. Support cast was often very good too.
