tks, ikr 🤣 Those seemingly disjointed clips before end credits are, if not a new feature (other dramas uses them too), an interesting "precision", not-to-miss part of episode. Those who skip to next, as soon as the episode reaches what looks like end, may miss these, so I consider them as a bonus for those who don't derail. Anyway HL is so good that I don't feel bored and tempted to skip any part, adding those pieces to the puzzle, so it is fun also to see where they fit in, and what had been left as a slight, easily overlooked gap in the main story.
It is fun too, how well this drama ties in with the manhua version that serves as storyboard (thanking those who posted links to it here in conversation!). ZLS, CZY, MBQ, cast and production, are doing a good job, bringing HL to life for us.

Means he cared enough for "meimei" that he got the pot for her while she was finishing with the birthday party, came back with it, loaded her in his car to drive her to the dorm, and gave her the pot to have honey water cure ready in case of hangover. (Drunk females are so common in c-dramas, tsk tsk tsk... ^+^) Ok : so this was a bit like the mine wagon jumping the gaps on broken rails in the Looney Tunes cartoon .... Watching c-dramas is an exercise in imagination.

Noted. Europeans don't watch that kind of shows, but you know that's what the girl might risk to stumble on if she was watching shows on tv or online in China. So you still see her as from your cultural perspective.

It depends a lot on country and upbringing, and economical circumstances.
To me, the character is totally believable morphing from relatively unrestrained tomboy child to shy adolescent, so self conscious as to hide and not send messages. I am even surprised that she had the courage at 17 to take the plane alone to check out the situation in Yihe, but not that, once there, she acted every bit as if she got cold feet. And that she was too tongue tied to blurt out the burning question, so was mistaken. Reacting next to hide away (or throw away) everything that reminded her of crush, is totally natural, and "drown sorrows" and mourning in dogged work, while ghosting former crush, is also very logical.
She is not a North American or northern European girl raised in permissive families and taught how to be more independent and how to think about relations with opposite gender. She is probably not even watching sweet dramas at home because bossy CEOs and ravished secretaries are not what the parents would want her to think about, just focus on studies, studies and studies.

Although a younger man spontaneously would address a much older (friend of "surrogate family" or more seasoned or powerful ) one as shushu (uncle) or might even use "yeye" (grandfather) like people used to talk about Premier Wen Jiabao back in the days. Nothing to do with crushes, it is rather a form of like including friends in the "extended family". Same goes for friends calling other friends meimei or jiejie according to if they are younger or older females. So, since it's also said he is 24 then, SZ is 19 when she goes to Yihe university, and since its has been 2 years since she flew back after coming to check on him on the pretext of the dating partner and breakup, she was 17 then, and he 22, starting his career and accompanied by his lady boss at the airport (whom SZ mistook for his rumored gf). He could indeed be annoyed that she ghosted his calls for 2 years and after he knew from big brother that she was coming to Yihe. But he is still clueless about the former schoolgirl's crush that now has been rekindled.
There was a lot of criticising "puppy love" in former episodes. Puppy love is an infatuation, generally short lived that can hit children from 5 years old and into adulthood ; that "condition" usually lasts from a few weeks to two years until the "sufferer" finds that the "loved one" is not as admirable as was once imagined and starts getting annoyed at obvious flaws. True love is supposedly only allowed when reaching legal adult age. Before that, it does happen, but usually has to be repressed publicly, especially if there is a big age difference. But 5 years is not that big a difference. Among the very big age difference, one example that is being quoted is French president Macron who crushed on his literature teacher when he was 14, and she was almost 40, married with two children of her own. He married her later in 2007 after her divorce with former spouse; it looks like this has kept her fit and looking younger. She is now 70 and he is 45 and it looks like they are not yet tired of being together. Although many find it their business to criticise their match. Of course, they were not intent on repopulating the planet with dozens of kids running in the yard : a dog is enough (and perhaps watching sweet dramas at home, who knows, since there is little risk of an "accident"), which is ecologically and sustainably sound ;-)

Being an introvert, he used this song to encourage himself and his listeners to move forward when times are tough. As for SEL, I am not far enough into the episodes yet, just making a pause after ep 1 to check what others feel about it. I have neither read the manhua nor watched the donghua versions, not coming habitually from such background, and am too lazy to hunt them up. So it is interesting to read here that the pace could come from that. It looked like the first episode was nice but childish introduction, so I am not won over yet. Anyway, I will sit out the next episodes to form an impression. It is too early for me to say I like it or not and I am not watching to assess the use of CGI. The repeated observations here had me think about what I thought about them, and if I think that here, like in many other xuanhuan, xianxia and wuxia, they could be better, they are still not causing me to skip the show altogether.

Ashes of Love is almost ancient History in dramatime now... Those who still love it (I do) are also in nostalgia, not for the ever present in xianxialand flowering cherry tree, flying around and video game style monster and battles, but for the characters, who were very well played by Yang Zi, Deng Lun, Luo Yunxi, Adonis Liao. Btw after AOL I hoped to see Liao Jinfeng in other dramas, but it looked to me like he had vanished into thin air since 2018... although now checking the relevant MDL page again, I see I missed the 2021 Youku short-short Miss Hua Escaped Marriage Again/Hua Fu Xiao Jie You Tao Hun, perhaps compiled in movie-edition since, and iQiyi full length wuxia Ben Yue, end of 2022, (Oh, that one also had Zhang Binbin as ML! : how could I overlook it? I think I shall be going back in time on a parallel thread then, to check that one out too! 😅)
I expect it will grow to show gratefulness and help in need ? The kid warrior was handsome too. But I don't know... Will this show be hit or miss? It looked too video game like (Disneyish deer, cultivation explanations, arrival of antagonists, battle) for part of episode 1 I rather like Xu Kai, so will stay for some more episodes, watching until 6 since this has been released on the WeTV VIP (with OK subtitling).
Hidden Love starts so well; 6 episodes in and can't wait for the next two (I think that's the plan to treat audiences who will be busy devouring zongzis in front of screens, for Dragon boat festival day June 22.
