No offense. Things happen. There is no widespread destruction nor casualties this time. Other parts of the world suffer other and at present perhaps worse calamities.
The drama is not a documentary, so there are of course (a lot of) things that are not true to procedures; still I find it interesting that the scope of the action of this corps is wider than in many countries where you know you can't call for official help to deal with "small things" such as wasps nests in the street. This drama has episodes which are far from perfect in some respects and the "romantic" triangle is clearly a burden this time, compounded with the lengthy mourning of the Doctor and obsession of Huo. It is a misguided attempt to spice up the story.
But the faces are pretty and maybe it will end up generally ok. I'm not giving up yet. First episodes were nice and cute. I hope the actress part will bring smthg interesting.

A particularly harsh first bout of summer rains known locally as "dragon boat water" saw the city of Beihai in Guangxi log 453 millimetres on Thursday. That was a regional daily record for June, according to the China Meteorological Administration.
Cars were half underwater in flooded Beihai streets and at one multi-storey building, water cascaded down a staircase as firefighters raced to rescue its residents, videos circulating on social media showed.

I also use kiss lol, bc I got impatient at waiting till next week for Here We Meet Again - am on WeTV vip too, but they were proposing a "fast track", and as much as I love Zhang Binbin, I was balking at the complication to use Google pay (I am an alien who prefers other payment options, lol!) I just spent a goodly hour watching yesterday's good BinBin Tencent event and summary in lieu of subtitling for the youtube audience. Loved how Binbin sang the Chengdu song a capella !
When you are through with Mr Insomnia, and if you have not watched HWMA already, I recommend you having fun with that one too !

Meanwhile I'm moving on to Skip A Beat thriller romantic drama starring Luo Zheng. That one is on iQiyi, also vip. I assume much will be on kiss too there, for those who can't or won't splurge.

Luo Zheng does stand out as a memorable face, although not in my preferred catalogue, since the stupid "Time To Fall In Love". The others are, to me, unexceptional, although I did remember Guo Jia Nan from some other dramas, albeit mostly from an over sugary one ("My Dearest Boss").
20 episodes only. All rrright then, despite this drama is not that interesting at the moment, so I will need some pauses to watch episodes.
But I am not halfway in, yet. And I hate to be too damning before I've reached the bitter or pleasant end 😁

I was looking forward to the next couple episodes 16-17. ... but these are getting quite too melodramatic, even to my very forgiving mind. Quick! next ones!; Or should I wait to fast forward until it gets back on track ?
I liked the story up till now but the blaming the kid, forcing break off, not telling, telling and shoving old papers into face, is getting too repetitive and protracted. The wading to find lost ring was exactly how it felt symbolically : wading in morass. And why were they on a beach with incoming tide, in the first place? It is getting nonsensical. Let's hope the next episodes will not be more of the same!
Plus the dolls don't look good with tears streaming down their faces like that.

Back to this little gem after the long hiatus since ep 13 :)
I started for uncomplicated fluff as dessert to other watching, but I admit I got hooked on the adorable look of the leads and the unlikely story, also wondering how the romance would turn out if they did not find a counter-measure to the Go-slumbering magic touch. lol.
We knew Mansu had designs; and now it looks like Uncle-Brother Chen is not as clean as we could have thought... Hmm, ---快把！next episode!

It's not really our business of course, but since celebrities' news have a way of attracting attention.... At 37, he would be an unnatural monk, if he had not already been sowing his wild oats. His rumored exes were well chosen, but well, it must be harder for celebs couples than for ordinary people to hope it could last.
I suppose it won't last till he's 60 before he announces settling down with someone. The rumored model or someone else. With everyone's blessing, certainly.

DramaWiki usually mentions the name of dubbers beside the actor credits ; there were none mentioned this time. But it is well known that William Chan is not perfectly comfortable with mandarin; his first languages are Cantonese and English. I think I heard traces of accent several times... so assumed he was using own voice [edit. but I was wrong, see the names of dubbers in my next post]. .
As for the story, it is a romcom. So, the tropes (getting drunk on beer and baijiu, bringing drunk sufferer home, piggyback carrying, spoon feeding, etc) go with the territory. After all, the drinking and food allow some usual product placement moments. Did we get to see the brands clearly? I was waiting for the actress getting ready for interview showing some beauty brands, but was disappointed, bah! There are also a few stargazing moments, fireworks and "saved hiding from storm in isolated cabin" ones, on the Meteor Garden model (this one is the ancestor of all the usual tropes). I am just amused and wondering how next, production could find a novel way to spin those tropes! Not really bored despite also having seen many such romcoms.
The drama also has a pedagogical goal, to show the use and usefulness of firefighters in small (wasp nests : yes! poultry catching was a new one lol) and big matters (earthquakes can be as close to citizens concerns as road traffic accidents and faulty equipment explosions). I find it interesting to compare the organization of work shown, with other countries' policies : some push responsibility for wasps or hornets nests over to private people or private companies, limiting the scope of firefighters' action, and search and rescue in earthquakes or collapsed buildings is also not their job but that of special squads that can have a para military or military function. Some have primarily volunteer firefighters with only small units of military organized ones.
The sweet story is supposedly "from a real life story" ; having known some people with even more extraordinary real life stories, this one feels not unlikely, even that of the young firefighter and the mourning doctor (although that one is definitely a side story that is spinned for fillers, in my opinion).
As for the cast, it is OK with me. I am not a fan of William Chan, but satisfied with what I see again here, which does look different from his character in Novoland Pearl Eclipse. I had not watched Zhang Ruonan before : she is well cast in her role, to me. I remembered Ci Sha from his role as the lawyer in Forever and Ever where he first impressed me. Jia Nan had not really impressed me in A Dream of Splendor and her role as scheming antagonist in A Romance of a Twin Flower was more difficult although it did make her remembered ; she has not had many appearances yet in this drama, so I am still expecting from her.
The trouble that caused complications with the drama cast also make me look out to try and spot moments when production replaced faces ; one actor (canceled for real prosecutable reasons) got a remarkable look-alike [in Dai Xiangyu playing Qin Ye theTV station news department team leader] as replacement. The other one was more tricky, since Xu Kaicheng's face is well known. [They found Wang Zirui for Fang Huai, the firefighter friend of Jin Shichuan'].
It is interesting then in the story of C dramas, to witness how the production was "saved". If not for the other offender who got cancelled, this drama might even have eventually a second, original version to show someday, since the offended gf trouble airing dirty linen in public about XKC (totally private matter that nobody else than the two should have a stake in, from my point of view; netizens reaction as holier-than-thou witch hunters felt hysterical to me) seems to have mostly settled down and "Got A Crush On You" passed review on 9th of May.
I will now read these comments from beginning, to perhaps find clues to where the replacements are located : amateur sleuthing, lol ! If you know and can link them, they will even add to my enjoyment of this drama !

Her voice is OK for me, not gratingly whiny like another more well-known one, who can't help it, but does act fine nonetheless.

Besides, she does have some investments there, linked to her career, even if the money is not that important. She is level-headed in all her interests. Actually perhaps an ideal wife-to-be for a businessman !

Actually there are even more implications perhaps in the name change, since 孙 is also the family name of the great Sun Zi / Sun Tzu 孫子 pen name of the famous general and author of The Art Of War!

I don't remember exactly when it was mentioned (I seem to remember it was Peng who was gleeful about finding out her real name, but I forgot what it was, since I was more amused by TT pronouncing her Western name impishly as something like Roub'eka which sounded to me as ròu 肉 bù è 不饿 kā 喀 "(meat) not hungry click" nonsense :)

If you can find the episode and time stamp when the real name occurred, I will try to go back and mull over why she was so set on nobody know her real name?

It is better to find someone who can take time and is skilled in figuring out a euphonic name in Chinese to transliterate a Western name, instead of just putting characters together that sound okay and more or less like original, because there's a possibility that the "Chinese name" thus hastily made up will be sounding ridiculous in some way.
It is possible to use a list of common transliterations for ordinary given names, but it can get tricky for a full name, even when just using first syllable of Western family name and borrowing a name with a corresponding sound in the "100 family names" list (there are actually 507 names listed in the 百家姓 list).
It is always best to consult a specialist. Even for Chinese people, name giving is a serious thing, calling for specialists and family reunion more often than not. This, even though a Chinese citizen has the option to legally change his/her given name when reaching adulthood. A lot of people used this opportunity after some historic periods when given names were both too ubiquitous and had too politically charged meanings.
Rebecca as a Western first name is usually transliterated in Chinese characters as 丽贝卡 Lì bèi kǎ (where the first character standing alone is one name of Korea, but would firstly evoke a part of adjective 美丽 meili which means "beautiful" and is often part of female given names ; the two others are "cowry" which was a shell used as money in the past, and "card" which evokes to me visions of a well funded bank account, not that this is a bad thing: put together, the impression is that of a "rich and pretty girl", quite desirable qualities, aren't they?)
