Yimeng is a salted fish character that is made to grow with the script. So I hope that everyone will stay open-minded. B/c not all female characters are going to come off strong/clear headed like what others need her to be at every single turn. Let’s be real human beings make mistakes and can be irrational in certain situations. She is an imperfect character inside an imperfect script.

It’s coming but we deserve more from Nan Heng and Yimeng

Yes, Yimeng by all means is not a perfect character created by the script. Your frustration comes from the script writing of the character. But this script is touching on the very idea that we judge a character solely on the surface and making every cliche and trope come out in cdrama world. So you will get the cute, bold female character, the scared, timid character, the beautiful arrogant heroine etc…. It’s a growth process.

So sad! Like we as an audience think we know the character more than the artist does who portrayed it for 120 days!!!! I don’t get why people are making her character out to be the villain now. She is literally trying to survive but is also conflicted! Excuse me in reality any contemporary individual going into an ancient script would not be as clear headed or the sweetest bumpkin. And I’m sorry but if the guy you loved lied to you when you were given opportunities to explain to you, you would be pissed too. Both the male and female lead characters have flaws. All of a sudden the dream you wanted to continue ended and the female character is not cute or insightful anymore. Yimeng changed based on the situation her character is constantly growing along with the script. Also why are people comparing leads from different dramas? Like different script, different character.

lol, that is a big if. But Current state of Nan Rui is no where near showing psychopath and guilt of killing his mother. I have suspicion it’s Uncle GAO

Yes! Like the artist says Yimeng awakening from the script is a growth process.

For real! And those who don’t see the deeper meaning to this drama are fools. Like it’s a story within a story. And the FL is trying to rewrite the FL of the scripts story. She even stated on day 1 how horrible the script is and already feeling pity on the FL because it focuses more on the ML making us viewers only see that side of the story. If you don’t like the character it’s because of the script Xiao Yu received. Yimeng and Nan Heng are all part of the script and whether the details within the script are exciting or not depends on the writer. It’s messy fun and exactly what a writer goes through when writing a script from their perspective.

lol, he is the worst emperor. Some fathers are harsh b/c they are being protective. But he is just cold and heartless b/c of the late empress. Like this script is touching on every trope and issue audiences have as a viewer and I love it. It makes it messy and funny. At times frustrating for characters like the emperor.

Yes! I think a lot of people forgot about this portion of the story as well. Xiao Yu is a salted fish character after all and her indulging, having fun in the ancient world as Yimeng is her way of enjoying her time there (also very entertaining). Her being indifferent or thinking that the script world is nothing but paper men it’s not important to make connections. But she is still Xiao Yu inside Yimeng b/c at the Lantern festival she even stated what she wishes most “i want to not having to work all year round. no presentations, no mental control, no encounters w overconfident mediocre men” haha and Xiao Yu is so unfiltered hint she will speak her mind as Yimeng. 🤣😅

I love the script it’s right up my alley of humor. The OST, transitions between the scenes, the perfectly casted artists for the respective roles, the deeper meaning behind this type of script (although not the most perfectly written drama out there). But yes, in the OG script he is arrogant and ruthless. In episode one, he came off as the same b/c he used his uncles suggestion to get close to the FL for one purpose only: make an alliance w/ Song Family to get the manual of weapon forging. But little did she know the script kept changing and the iconic scenes needed to happen. And then there were script rules: male cannot kill FL. My suspicion has that the other rule is if she dies the scene repeats itself. I also, have a hunch that Nan Feng transmigrated into the novel thus creating LiShiliu to change his character arc as well.

It’s b/c she is afraid of the script. She is afraid the events will occur again and again no matter what the situation is. Does she want to see the good yes, does she want him not to get hurt yes, does she want to be able to live out Yimeng life without dying yes, have a normal life with family yes. But the OG script already made her out to be the antithesis of a noble heroine. Hint the frustration you all are getting by judging her characters actions for not solely doing what we perceive as ideal in that moment given the knowledge she has of the script she is still not able to change. All in all her main goal is to survive the script and prevent the tragic events from happening. Her harsh words towards NH is resisting the script, but she forgot that inside the script falling in love w/ the protagonist is unavoidable. Also, w/o the script rule you really think she would be safe from NH given his ulterior motive was to use her to get the manual of forging weapons? So both Yimeng and NH are not perfect characters. Li Shiliu, IMO, is Nan Heng awakened as a paper man.

100%. She reminds the audience time and time again she is working against the script and also NH. But IMO, w/o the script rule NH still would have had ulterior motives. And w/o her being aware of what he wanted before hand (the manual to forge weapons) things might have happened exactly like the og script. The events still needed to occur but the details in between the main iconic scenes changed.

🤣 Wang Chengsi as Fugui is hilarious and does a damn good job as his lackey/sidekick. plus, love that they cooperated twice

💯 in agreement. I believe the original script is was probably more angsty (but it changed) and the background to the Nan family definitely has something to due w/ his character and choices.

She is such a great actress

If you are looking for humor, a transmigration and relatability drama to how audiences look at the original script of a play. Totally 💯 should watch. LYT pulls off the modern NPC well b/c she still has modern CPU but as Yimeng in ancient times. ML cold, ruthless (almost similar to Shao Wei from TPOB) and LYN does well playing the NPC. OST is on point w/ the plot and is also really good. Beautiful costume and plot is developing very nicely
