This is just a guess, but I think the director wanted to leave it ambiguous like that; the decide for yourself kind of ending. It seemed to me like he took off when the cops arrived and was maybe planning on returning on the day she got out to meet her? My take on the ending is that he doesn't come back... :/

I liked it moreso because of Son Ho Jun than the actual plot. It was interesting throughout, especially the events surrounding the ML's fiancee's death and how he coped with that.
