Very true, I enjoyed it though (I am a lady.) One of my small critiques was how male-centered the show was, but I understand why: the 70s were just Like That (lol), and Korea back then was very patriarchal. Lots of action. Ruthless villain protagonist. The only female characters I did like in season 1 was Bae Geum-Ji and Ikeda/Choi Yu-Ji.

Seems like FL will be more involved in ML’s affairs which is good for the future romance but also brings a lot of danger with it. We’ve seen examples that close aides/servants of noble people get killed/sold off/exiled.
Yeah, I think that’s about what happens. I think he has very strong suspicions that she’s his former fiancé and he’s jealous of the scholar dude and doesn’t want her to anyone but himself. So she’s not going to be too thrilled at first, obviously with the slap, but love will come later, especially when he reveals that he knows who she really is. With 47 episodes no one is expecting romance until at least the halfway mark.
So the spoiler is that her parents find her a nice young man to marry (he looks like he falls into the "poor" scholar category, lots of potential but not from a noble background obviously). ML suspects that she's his former fiancee and even tho his parents are trying to get him to marry the Duke's daughter, he goes behind their back to the emperor and uses his military merits to get him to decree a marriage between him and the FL. She, rightfully so, is pissed about the whole thing. And since it's an imperial decree, she can't deny the marriage.
