I agree - for me, it came to a point where if I see a woman in a BL series, I immediately start dreading the moment…
I completely get all of your points and that's what makes me the most sad and frustrated about BL these days. Be My Favorite, Moonlight Chicken, A Boss and a Babe, Our Dating Sim, The Eighth Sense, Tin Tem Jai and Utsukushii Kare Season 2 are shows that came out this year and had female characters that weren't "bitches". But after so many years of seeing one-dimensional female characters who only exist to keep the male leaders apart, lots of people think women in BLs are "bitches". And even though I can list MANY BLs with non-evil female characters we can all name A LOT more that had awful and detestable female characters.
I personally refuse to call Shimizu a bitch. I can't stand her actions, I hate seeing her in any she scene, but I also know next to nothing about her. She just showed up and inserted herself into the story. If the writer bothered to give her any depth or show anything from her point of view, there is a chance that her behavior would make perfect sense. Maybe she's been in love with Souta for years but was too afraid to say it. Or maybe he's the only man that's made her feel safe and happy. If this was a non-BL Kdrama, she'd probably be the main character and I'm sure be written in a much more positive light. But it is BL and the audience is supposed to be on Mahiro's side, so when he behaves irrationally everyone doesn't immediately write him off or call him names. But when the random woman behaves very similarly to him, we are conditioned to say she's evil and she gets attacked. I'm not defending her in any way, I REALLY don't like the character. All I'm saying is that there is a double standard.
This always makes me wonder, "Why do the authors hate women and why do we have to hate women? It doesn’t make any sense to me!" I truly don't get it and I REALLY REALLY hate it. Some of my all-time favorite series had great female characters. And writers who go out of their way to turn every female character into a villain are the real villains and I'm soooooo tired of seeing series that use that harmful and tired trope. I hope fans keep being vocal about wanting this shitty trope to end, I think that's the only way things will change.
I'll wait for the cast to be announced, but I had almost no faith that this will live up to the original. That series was flawed and toxic, but also truly addicting.
*sigh* It's hard to believe that the same person who directed Old Fashion Cupcake also directed this slog. I almost never complain about short series because sometimes less is more. This show might have been fine with 8 episodes, 12 is WAY too many.
I tried to stick with this one, but I'm done. I'd rather hate watch a series than sit through something that I'm completely indifferent about. I've stopped caring about all of these characters. I'm completely over stories that are too lazy to have compelling plots and just use an endless stream of misunderstandings, gimmicks (naked dining) or worse an irritating, pathetic, evil or desperate woman to cause problems. BL audiences are mostly women and it's a disservice to the genre, characters and fans to constantly have women be the problem in so many series.
Wonderful story, great ending. I hope companies making BLs take note and we get more series in the future with a child. Gay men raising families (younger siblings or their own children) happens in the real world and BLs should start to reflect that.
I'll ignore episodes 1-12 for now and say that this was the most perfect ending for a BL that I've ever seen. In a world where couples who've known each a month are having proposals, this felt earned and perfect.
The BL gods truly blessed the nameless fandom and I'm really grateful to everyone involved with the production of the final 4 episodes. I'm crying happy tears. This was all that I hoped for and MUCH more!!!
EarthMix need to have a new series with a unique plot in 2024. 🕯🕯🤎❤️
I'm biased because Love Tractor is one of my all time favorite webtoons and the art that made it so special for me can never be recreated in live action. But so far I'm fine with this remake. The actors playing YeChan is fine, he doesn't feel like the real YeChan, but seems likeable and innocent which is what I hoped for.
I think the thing that will make this show a success or failure centers around how they write Yul. That character isn't nearly as interesting or entertaining as YeChan and I won't be surprised if focusing on him makes the live action remake feel boring. Yul is the main character in both verisons of the story, but what works in a webtoon doesn't always work with human characters. The actor also isn't aligning with what I expected. Probably because he seems too young. But I'll keep watching it though and hope I like it half as much as I loved the original.
After absolutely loving the 1st and 2nd episodes, I was a bit meh for most of the 3rd. Overall I liked it, but I wish they'd spent less time in the woods. Either way, I'm looking forward to the final episode.
I also emphasize with the die hard Bad Buddy fans who are disappointed. Pat and Pran felt like side characters in episodes 2 and 3. But I loved all of the interactions between the 4 characters.
The 2nd episode of BB × ATOTS OS2 was literally my favorite hour of tv this year. I would have never guessed that Pat and Phupha would be so great together, but I loved every second of them on screen together. P'Aof should make all GMMTV BLs going forward because he NEVER disappoints. It's so refreshing to watch a Thai BL with a script and solid acting and directing.
I just wish we got 8 episodes of these 4 characters together. Or a whole season!!!!
I couldn't agree more. That's why Oxin's announcement to produce "My Day 3" as the story of Zeke and Fifth feels…
Definitely!!! I fully expect them to do all they can to ruin Zeke and Fifth's relationship by adding a massive amount of useless side characters with "stories" that fill most of the run time, more dogs and some random woman who is hell bent on destroying their relationship. *sigh*. I wish both actors could go to a company with actual writers, but that won't happen 😮💨
When they announced OS2 last year, an episode like we just got for BB was more than I could have hoped for. Pat and Pran are back it feels like we're seeing a logical next step in their relationship. The timeline makes sense, the acting is top-notch (of course it is) and most importantly THERE'S A SCRIPT!!!!!
At first, I didn't love the idea of crossing two separate stories, but it's working REALLY well so far! I can't wait until tomorrow. I've seen some comments about it being weird because of the alleged issues between Ohm and Nanon. But I think both actors are doing a wonderful job portraying these beloved characters. Fans will never know exactly what is going on behind the scenes and I think focusing on that does a disservice to the hard work from everyone involved in the production of these episodes.
At this point, I don't care how bad the previous episodes of OS2 have been. I feel like I waited forever to see PatPran and PhuphaTian again and I'm soooooooo happy they're all back 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Moira from My Day was the worst female BL character since Plern Pleng, so I'm not surprised someone thought adding drama from Prim and Camilla would be enjoyable to watch. The writer is doing EVERYTHING wrong. All of the time spent with the dogs, the modeling, the live streaming, the non-existent drink making competition, the VIP, the exes and the gym, should have been spent developing the relationships between Win and Sky and Fifth and Zeke.
I hate to be so hard on this show because at least Oxin is making a BL. There have only been a few Pinoy BLs in recent years, so I'm glad this exists. But it's also a shame to watch something this amateurish knowing it could have been sooooo much better. I'm not looking forward to the rest of the episodes because this truly gets worse every week.
The first episode was really good and better than I expected. I like all of the side characters, Kawi is relatable and it is sooooooo wonderful to FINALLY see Gawin in a lead role. Kob Songsit Rungnopakunsi is 100% my favorite BL dad! Also, the chemistry between Krist and Gawin is strong. I'm looking forward to episode 2.
ABAAB was the series I was least excited about for the OS2 episodes and the one where I was the least invested in the characters/relationship. Since I was also completely underwhelmed by the later episodes of ABAAB, I had very low expectations for these OS2 episodes. But in the end, I think they were best OS2 episodes so far. Because the previous episodes gave me varying degrees of disappointment, my standards may have lowered too much.
I wouldn't rewatch these episodes, but they fit the original story and did a fine job of selling face cream, food and a car. I'm pretty sure that was GMMTV's ultimate goal, so I think they met the goal.
The writing wasn't great and since Gun's issue was being a bad boss, I don't think learning how to use a photocopier or getting drinks made him a better boss. But Thai writers will likely never learn how to write believable BLs set in an office, so I accept that the plot doesn't matter. And the fluff was fine.
