Yes he does, he is absolutely obsessed with her until the very last minute, BUT when Wu Yan forces to kill her he is actually the one saving her by faking her death, so even though I still hate him and im utterly disgusted by his character and im super happy he dies, he is the one saving her at the end. ( kind of his redemption i guess)

I absolutely agree with you in what refers to the support at the beginning, and i was actually really impressed by him because of that. I admired the fact that the writers decided to write a male lead who was not running to save the female lead as you saying and she had to just struggle and fight in order to grow. I loved that. My issue started when he imposed himself to her, his priorities, his feelings and his needs not caring or listening to what she wanted or needed at all and he just chose to hide the truth from her like a coward for months. And then after that just pure toxic stalker behavior. But at the beginning (half of the series) his character was golden and very realistic too)
