I feel like Xianxias in general got hate until 10 Miles Peach Blossom (I could be wrong; it felt that way to me), and you're right about the negative reviews. Genre had a lot working against it: confusing storylines, literally sh*t CGI, and actors that don't act well/look good facing green screens.

As a very avid cnovel reader, I agree with you. While I think LBFAD is a fantastic drama, there are so much different It's barely similar. I've only encountered 2 fantastic adaptations, and that is Lost You Forever, and The Legend of Shen Li. Both unfinished as of now *clutches heart*.

Honestly only recent years it gravitated towards pretty boys who can be in Xianxia roles. We had so many more mature MEN before, like Chang Chen in Love and Destiny, Mark Chao in 10 Miles Peach Blossoms, William Chan in Novoland: Pearl Eclipse, etc etc. Suddenly in the 2020s we got only the young early 20s, Dylan Wang, Xu Kai, Wang Anyu, Neo Hou. The trend just got younger and younger! I hope this drama brings back mature actors to this genre, and they even made this xianxia genre refreshing again.

It drives me crazy that even in the drama it's as ambiguous as it is in the novel, so I have no answer for you.

When XZ used his powers to wake up Jing Yan, he turns into his original soul, which is Ancient God Qingye. XZ says he will restore some of Qingye's powers in Jing Yan (the mortal body) so he will have purification powers, and the realization to recognize his true love (the woman whom he gave up his powers for, but was punished to miss her each lifetime). After this , you see Jing Yan more clear about who he wants to be with, which is Jing Xi in this lifetime. Then when Shi goes away, you see the lotus tattoo on her wrist. So each lifetime, he was stuck between each girl, causing both harm. Last lifetime, she was Xiao He (lotus demon), and now he broke the cycle and able to pick the soul of his true love before any tragedy.
