What a fun article! You could go back to some classic lakorn pairings like Ken (Ken Theeradeth) and Anne (Ann Thongprasom) who always had some crackling chemistry despite them both going on to marry other people. Or Kob (Kongying Suvanant) and Brook (Danuporn Poonnakan) who did go on to marry each other! As for me, it doesn't matter who Nadech Kugimiya is paired up with on screen or off - he could act with a brick wall and make it meaningful.

Love-Love-Love the ending theme song! It's so hauntingly beautiful. ❤ You Are Beautiful by 劉沁 / 刘沁…
If I have to convert, I will but I like to try to support the musician first. Rene Liu has a song on the 15 years of Migratory Birds soundtrack that I thought was similar. Thanks for the heads up!

I was trying to find this song to download- any ideas? Also, my searches keep saying Liu Qin is Rene Liu. Any ideas?

I switched from the subbed to unsubbed at ep 4 because I couldn't wait anymore! This is very good - kind of Cruel City mixed with a family drama. Anyway, a question about Juan Zi's bar in ep 4: his bad brother drops in to drink and be frustrated. Juan Zi pours him drinks from what looks like a white wine bottle - but into a short glass and his brother drinks it like liquor. What is it?! It's 10:30 am here and this whole scene makes me want white wine!

I was just watching a preview for ep. 13-16 on YTube and why has no-one snapped, grabbed a sword and removed that chief eunuch by now? None of the "sides" involved trust him yet he is scuttling around the palace all day. Man, he needs to choke on a fishbone right now!

I agree with so much of this article. Cubic was so bad it was tantalizing.

Each episode had some odd situation or character that seemed to be part of another story entirely. Even the villain - an actual villain with a plan for both revenge and his future - seemed to be borrowed from another script. I think that's why I kept watching. I just wanted to see if and how these many jigsaw pieces fit together at the end.

The answer is - they didn't. The ending was the equivalent of taping a puzzle together after first cutting away all the bits that didn't bit. Now, Cubic, wasn't my first lakorn so I think I see some of the more popular Thai tv tropes buried in this show but even with that limited understanding, I could tell that this as a lakorn of different stripe. None of the actors were truly horrible - I know that many of them are popular actors in different shows - but no actor could make this story fly.

So, watch it for the sheer peverseness of the script but don't hope for an reasonable ending. And after I saw this once, I've found it very hard to try and rewatch. Each time, I just ditch it for Mafia Tee Ruk (My Beloved Mafia) - a much more accessible lakorn with a very similar plot.

I was just rewatching this - I was able to watch it subbed a long time ago for the brief time it was subbed for free on KeyHui's Facebook page - and I'm still curious about one key point. Did Wee know she was his "enemy" when she was making him smile in Paris? In the last ep. he reminisces and his only happy memories are from Paris. Not a one from Thailand. That was a pretty sad life right there. Anyway, a pretty sad and depressing show - yet I come back time after time.

Nope - I hoped Zig from the comments would know. I got bored rewatching and switched to Mafia Tee Rak. Less staring.

Have any of the original novel's author's other books been turned into lakorns? This one has so many glimmers of good plot - but the director takes them nowhere - that I'm hoping to something else by the author.

But - why the stuffed monkey? Did they think it brought some depth to the photo shoot? Brought out his playful side? Showed his love of animals? All in all, I just wondered whose kid left it in the pool.

A remake of the one with Andrew G.? Wonder when it will show
You are absolutely right. Although the older lakorn had a lot of cultural differences - the lead was way more submissive - the plot line between all the side characters was so excellent. Watching this newer version, it was like they kept adding things to update the story - but didn't bother connecting any of the dots of the plot. If one little girl was cute in the old show - lets' have two little girls in this one. If there is one romantic interest for the heroine - lets add in two. How about you just give the girl a real job, take away the fake kidnapping (i.e. she was living on a island full of other people, not actually hidden away like in the first one) and create a real reason why the hero was so pissed at his dad. Ugh. I kept watching in the hopes of seeing something new or exciting and it never came. Quite frankly, I'm glad no one wasted subtitles on this.

This episode seemed pretty dark - and quite frankly, I thought it couldn't be resolved - but it was very good. Pretty bloody as well - I was surprised at how they showed all the turmoil of mafia wars. I'm not sure if it says anything but - man, I had some second lead syndrome with Leng. He just needed more time to redeem himself. Six more months with YaYa would have done him a world of good. I really enjoy Chai's (Hiranyatithi Chatayodom) acting in almost anything.
