Only a 3.6/10 on Douban. I have never seen a drama with such terrible score. Even the most recent one with that Korean guy as Duan Yu did better with 4.5/10...

Xiao Zhan literally becomes a spider later on with spider legs coming out of his back. He walks around with it like Doc Oc in Spider-man. Plus his eyes becomes this freaky dark color all around. Should give anyone with arachnaphobia plenty of nightmares...

Personally, I don't how they gonna do S2 of the drama. They pretty much took everything from the entire donghua and crammed all that into S1. Hu Lie Na and her sister became one person. The slaughter city arc where Tang San saved/teamed up Hu Lie Na by tying a rope to her, they moved it to the sandstorm city in the drama. The part where Xiao Wu "died" and gave her red soul ring to Sang Tan, that already happened in S1 when she gave all her soul power to Tan Sang and was left with no soul ring afterwards. They pretty much left nothing over for S2 yet they're gonna do another season...

Same here. I watched the drama first. I always thought the anime looked like an extension of Fights Break Sphere (really horrible show IMO). That's y I avoided it all this time. But the drama changed my mind and I gave Soul Land a look after finished the drama.

S1 drama pissed off a lot of donghua fans. Not because of hate for Xiao Zhan, but the story seemed too divergent from the source. I have watched all 170 of the donghua and can confirm this is true.

The drama is supposed to be something different otherwise no point in repeating the same stuff. But it is just too diferent. In the long run this is not too good for the production company as they are selling out long term loyal fans of the original IP to rope in newbies who never heard of Soul Land before.

The best way to resolve the conflict would be to create a movie out of this IP that is slightly different from the donghua yet not too different like the drama. This can reconcile the loyal fans and also attract new audience to the franchise.

Xiao Zhan for S2 means good news. The sequel will be the same or higher quality.

OMG, did Jackie Chan just do a live action skit at the end of donghua episode 169? Puke puke vomit vomit. I'm JC's biggest ANTI-FAN. Thank god it was only a short skit. Otherwise I would have boycotted this whole series...

Anyone here read the novel? (I haven't). So let me ask you this... In the novel is Tang Sang spider-man, batman (utility belt), and superman (blue laser eye beams, flight from mother's soul bone)? The same Tang Sang as portrayed by Tencent?

For those who don't know, S1 drama ends at Ep108 in the anime. It means you can skip to Ep109 (there are 160+ episodes to the anime so far...) to glimpse at S2.

Meh, in the anime Tang San and Xiao Wu are almost the same height. But in the live action Xiao Wu is rather petite...

I would have said this. BUT I watched the anime after finished live action. It seems anime Tang San has much more charisma than Xiao Zhan. So, Tang San can be played by some one else for S2 and that's fine with me.

Drama put me to sleep. BUT by the 12th episode, I was hooked. Drama does the special effects better. The first time a 9 rings master appeared, I was like wow!!

In other words, this whole drama is a huge advert for Tencent 5v5 mobas and the only reason I dropped the series!

Overseas, most ppl have stopped playing Honor of Kings. League of Legends: Wilf Rift will take up Honor's mantle, plus both games look alike.

Tencent Videos has a huge overseas viewers base. Tencent makes dramas like this just to make ppl fancy a moba from them.

Shameless promo for upcoming (official release of) League of Legends: Wilf Rift 5v5 phone moba. Honor of Kings didn't do so good overseas (vs Mobile Legends: Bang Bang), that's y Tencent upping the game, getting ppl excited about their mobas thru an online drama.

Watching Yang Yang plow thru the games killing characters mercilessly and easily causes me to vomit. Reminds me of the reason I quit Mobile Legends in the first place. There r characters that just don't die no matter how low their HP gets. They're equipped with HP recovery cheats and this Yang Yang just loves to use them. Makes we wanna puke...!

Dropped drama at Ep2.

Weak drama --- only managed a 5.4 on Douban after 110k votes.

OK, so let's refresh our memory, ALP only got 4.9/10 on Douban when there were only 50k votes. It means 60k votes later (110k votes total) the haters were gone, and everyone gave the show a 5.9/10, so in the end it averaged 5.4/10.

Meh dramas like Dance of the Phoenix, Castle in the Sky 2 did way better at 6.1/10. You guys sure ALP is such a good drama at 5.9/10 true score (sans haters)?

BUT WAIT, I SKIPPED to the LAST EPISODE and noticed that they actually did something RIGHT compared to Eternal Love (aka Ten Miles):

EL ending had the guy resurrect and run to the girl towards the end. That is so... wrong. This is a male dominated world. The girl should be running to the guy instead.

THIS alone doesn't make up for the fact that ALP failed as a drama. Tencent as a company had always been a me-too company. When they saw how successful EL/Ten Miles was, Tencent decided it was a good idea to have their own EL drama. What happened they ended up with a drama that tried too much to dethrone EL with fantastic CGI that only companies like Tencent can afford and failed miserably...

I can see a lot of comments here are VERY biased. They go read the 1's scores on Douban and think OMG HATERS everywhere!!

U guys realized that +50,000 votes came in right? OKAY, so let's say 10,000 hated the FL's looks and gave the show a 1's. Pfff, big deal! As if 10,000 votes can influence the other +40,000 votes. ALP got a 5.1 (or 4.9 seems to fluctuate) coz 50000 ppl on AVERAGE thought it was that bad...

BTW, u guys know that Tencent is a VERY RICH company right? They just put some lipsticks on the pig called 3L3W-esque Xianxia, apply a new name then voila u have a new drama.

Drama has v good CGI ooh ahh this that. Of course it, does. Tencent can afford to throw all that money into EVERY SINGLE drama they make. Doesn't mean the drama is all that good.

The Douban ratings the one that sees past the money behind the production company and reveal the truth about the drama for all its worth!

Douban ratings are very fair and accurate. There's never been a good drama that got a bad rating on it. Too many times I made the mistake of jumping into a drama only to find out I wouldn't have wasted so many hours on it had I checked out the Douban ratings earlier on.

I have learnt my lesson. From now on, I will wait for a drama to finish airing, see the Douban score, then decide if I want to get into it. This no matter how much hype drama/movie got on release...
