Ding Yu Xi's acting keeps boring, he's not even bad but he's rarely convincing to me ... He's looks too boyish (too young, I know it's not it's fault lol) for me to believe he's the character he's supposed to act. His embodiment is so underwhelming ... He's displaying the same type of expressions ... What wenty wrong, he started so well tho, he did great in "The Romance of Tiger and Rose" and "Intense Love", but ince then, his acting displayed no evolution ...

Thank you for sharing your point of view, I see you got a lot to say haha ! What is almost unintentionally cynical about Korean rom-coms is that their audiences are mostly women. And yet, its the male leads who often reap the fruits of the success of these romcoms, and the perfs of the actresses who star in romcoms are always ignored by serious awards ceremonies... Look at what's happening with "Lovely Runner", the ml is getting all the recognition from kr medias lmao ... when in fact it was a team effort that led to the huge sucess of drama, and this drama wasnt even romcom focus, it has the whole loop time thing as the main focus but still ...
To be fair, korea isn't serving us actual romcoms anymore since they don't know how to write decent romance, they use already pre-made & recycled stories ... with a lot of kissing scenes but actual no deep chemistry ... When you watch a film or series from another country, it's the fact of being able to create a connection with this foreign culture that motivates you. But when we learn that the connection is in fact false and the result of manipulation, the charm disappears ... What's happening in Kpop is very telling, but I bet the korean cinema (and chungmuro mafia) is even darker, they just know how to protect each other far better than idols ... They just hate women for being women, but Korean women are strong and they already taking actions !

Westerners are just as toxic of course. But when I was talking about the international audience, I was referring to those who have been watching Korean dramas for a long time already (I should have clarified that, sorry for the misunderstanding because yes I agree the new Western audience is particularly stupid). Concerning the misogyny of the world, it is obvious but each country has its own way of exercising it. And Korea is becoming particularly toxic in its treatment of women, discussions regarding women's rights and representation are backward despite being an economically overdeveloped country, which makes misogyny in Korea a case of its own. Every country has misogyny within it, but not all demonstrate it in the same way. The scenes from GoT were particularly explicit but their brutality sometimes completely echoed the brutality of the world and the characters depicted because precisely the writer had to do that colossal work of displaying in a highly convincing way context all around, which in this drama never happened.
I think the idea that brutal and explicit se× scenes are solely a matter of a male gaze is false. Women can absolutely have these looks on his scenes but precisely not for the same reasons. Women would want to watch those scenes to remember how women and their se×uality were used and mistreated, while the male gaze would gave a pleasure and toxic empowered feelings of witnessing thoses. It is when we understand that these scenes are used for something else, ideological, that the question of the gaze must arise.
K-ent is still milking the "sky catle" style/aesthetic but yet again fails ... The writing is too hectic for me to keep going, like they're doing too much and after 5 eps I asked myself if I actually cared to continue and my answer was obviously NOPE. They didn't give us a segment were we get to connect with the characters ...
After 4 eps, here's my opinion : - This is the first project of Jeon Jong Seo where I find her acting actually good, but still nofl material perf...
The acting of cast isn't bad but nothing that great, very forgetable ... even if they are obviously trying to deliver well, there is no fascinating perfs in those 4eps so far ...
- The directing is pretty good, I like the aesthetic of it but the camera movements often are weird tho - The writing is bad : the narrative contruction is interesting but a little more scenes about the context in term of the history of the characters would have put better solid bases ... The drama wants to be seen edgy so bad while the historical aspect isn't convincing enough ...
- Korean cinema has always used se× and nude scenes to appeal to men/male gaze (by the way they filmed them and more precisely how and why they staged them). Of course, there are very few exceptions. Now that major global networks are highlighting Korean dramas like never before, the same (productions) teams behind these films or the people inspired by them are trying to display the same intentions in the dramas. And surprisingly, international audiences aren't stupid enough to not see how these scenes are a bit off/random ... Are they used to allow us to understand the context of human behaviors or is it for "shock value", that is the question you should ask yourself to understand if these scenes are valid or not. The Korean misogynist specter is very, very comfortably ensconced in the film industry. And now we see it inserting itself into dramas to gain more buzz from international audiences ... with that fake edgy tone. The nude scenes obviously only mainly concern women even when it comes to se×ual violences (r-pe)... as if men wouldn't be in those situations during this time ... (I guess the male korean audience wouldn't be ok to see it on screen, but when it comes to women, they get free pass all day long) and I find it abject, especially when you take into consideration the current context of Korea: toxic cruel misogyny is deeply rooted in the country's morals ... I wouldn't have mind the se× scenes and the nudity if the scenes weren't random as hell, maybe they got inspired by how those scenes were display in Game of Thrones but it was poorly done here ...
you give 3-4 to every drama you watch how can i trust you 😭
Thank you very much. This is exactly my opinion too. I don't rate any movie or drama a 10/10 cause it would means it was perfection, and I haven't witness perfectio. I started watching asian dramas 15 years ago, and I watch a lot of different drama ... I don't rate anything high if I believe in has too many major flaws or if I don't believe it re-watchable ... I don't ask people do share the same views but I'm just here giving my opinion, that's all. Thank you again for your kind words.

you deranged weirdo, seek help you need it for sure. bish inserted herself as if anyone was looking to engage with a d-mmy like you lmao ... bye psych○. 🤢🤮

Go get some braincells before starting using words you don't understand. "Spreading misinformations", I'm writing my opinion, I don't need your validation lmao. Pathetic.🥴
The directing and production are very good, the acting is nice but nothing outstanding. The writing lacks in many ways, the ideas are good but I didn't enjoy the execution : simplistic without depth.
Overhype dramas are usually popular dramas which means they're overhyped for a reason. I suggest you go watch…
Many popular dramas are "popular" without resorting to exaggerated praises precisely because they have managed to create a consensus about the objectivity of their success based on the quality displayed. Calling a drama "overhyped" isn't always about questioning its popularity but the praises concerning its quality.

i do think the story of yanxi palace was her best drama but in the double, she seemed to reconnect with her acting, which was refreshing to watch, i liked her scenes in the first 3 eps very much, she was very charismatic ... after that, i was bored lol

I actually think wu jin yan did a good job, not excellent but far better than what she did in her previous dramas. I didn't find the chemistry as good as people said it was, the writing was good but not incredible. The acting was nice enough, my problem was the writing ...
