There are two issues in this drama series. Wuxia is not an easy series to act in, it involved more than just acting you need also to have a believable sword play skills. Beautiful FL may be, she lacked of both. When you are supposedly a highly skilled swordwoman , you need to at least be convincing, and rule number one, when you hold the sword in your hand, you need to know it's an extension of your hand... When FL held her sword? With a gust of wind it would blow the sword right out of her weak wristed and soft fingered hand... and to top it off she can't act if her life depend on it.
I love Wuxia/Xianxia dramas, and have been watching them since the 70s, and nobody does it better than the Shaw Brothers production. A word to the actresses who are eager to play in these genre of dramas you need to pay attention to these actresses and directors too pay heed (Learnt from Zhang Yimou). Look at them and learnt from them, especially the FL, those fabulous actresses were well trained how to hold a sword in their hand! Thosedays there were no CGIs and all they have is closeup shots where the truth will reveal their acting in these ancient themed dramas.
One look at the way you hold your sword and the way you move your body? Your audience can tell if you are cut out for it.
Chinese dramaland, has been serious with their modern take on dramas for some 10 odd years now, you cannot relax on matters like these.. You need to get serious!!! You need to get on with the programme. If you don't have time to deal with these matters then make less dramas but make good ones. Quality is always netter than quantity!! Keep making and don't stop, but also keep improving on the quality! Jia you!!!
I think you hit the nail it on the head, not to expect too much!! Stupidly I let it riled up on a few pints as I took it way too seriously!! I will have to restart after reading your comments.
The synopsis reads like a very interesting drama. I keep telling myself this is just a drama, don't take it too seriously. Comedy and drama require some kind of intelligence, an intelligent comedy is divine and drama with a purpose is magic. The Chang'an Youth reads like it has promise, so there I sat and watch, I ignored all the foibles in the first episode, and then came the second episode, more ridiculous scenarios .... Is it worth carrying on watching? Or should I just bailed out now..... If a drama doesn't grab you in the first few episodes, then highly unlikely it will improve...
What started out as something interesting and fun to watch and then when it comes to relationship and their issues, that on and off thing was ok in the beginning but it just went to huh? What the heck? And what's with the FL's brother and her best friend relationship? They are sooooo lame....... and the other couple are like an extra just thrown in for good measure. The problem is the script writer wants to be clever with the romantic side of things but just messed up the lead couple and the other two I ended up just skipping them as they are lame. Now at episode 17 I can visualised the FL lead is really a 14 year old pouty girl trying to be a 26 years old psychiatrist, at the very least (4 years at University plus at least another 2 years as clinical housemanship before you can fully qualify as a Psychiatrist), or is it the other way round, a 26 years old trying to be a pouty 14 years old. In the end just got me on my nerves, strangely enough the ML was the only sane character. I found out the same writer is responsible for the up coming Legend of Anle with Gong Jun. Oh wow! Good luck with that!
Yes there is, but just not very obvious because of the censorship, and this one is over cautious. A better bromance…
I agree with you, the definition of Bromance has been muddied and blurred into meaning Pseudo or full on Homosexual relationship.. Oh well, like a lot of terminologies over the last decade or so have been bastardised to mean something totally different from the original meaning. Shame, its not progress or evolution of the language, but it I destroying the sanctity and the essence of the term.
I think something went wrong while I was commenting on Silent Criminal, and got truncated when I compare the two series... Sorry I think I am .. hahahah
Terrible script and lack of knowledge of what Court Life is like, the writer need more research. It's not 21st Century or communist China.... put that aside, fairly watchable if you can ignore the FL in her mid-20s playing a girl 10 years younger.. You will be fine.. so that means most of the time you need to put up with 90% angst to finish it .. or you can just skip and fast-forward like me...
I shuddering with glee when I read that some Netizens complains that the ML features are too sharp!! Of course they implied they want pretty boys who look prettier than the FL and most of all the viewers themselves. Well just too bad!!! Pretty boys days are numbered in Dramaland, for a while at least. Lou Zheng and his likes are here to stay, hopefully forever. Long live real men and handsome men!
Actually he is like that up to a certain point. Plus something that is not explained in the drama is that he was…
You are right I guess.. need to be more patient. I do hope his character will developed into a stronger and more solid one. Yep more than 22 more episodes to go.
Allen Ren, I have seen him in other dramas, and he was finnnneeeeeeee. But in this drama, he is like a little lost child who is forced to take on adult responsibilities, his awkwardness and rather introverted personality doesn't seem to go well with Bai Lu character who is very reserved and demure, and very dispassionate, makes it rather unaffected drama, and more than a tad boring. I have a feeling this is going to be a very frustrating drama, instead of pulling at one's heartstrings. Will it get warmer, or the chill and distant atmosphere carry on to the very last. In this instant,
I blame the director and perhaps the writer for not helping the two talented actors in reaching their souls to give what could have been a great drama. I hope the 'summer' comes soon, I am feeling tired of the vacant 'winter' between the two leads leading up to episode 7 that I am at now.
I thought the ML looked young so I checked his age!!! OH MY FARTING GOD!!! HE is 17yo and She is 24yo!! What were they thinking?!!! For Fart Sake! I know 'cougar and the kid' thing is very HOT in Chinese drama.. bet he is practically underage! And they made a 24 year old girl a Cougar!! I can't even rate this!!!
It’s been surfacing all over weibo that there will be a part 2 and the screenwriter will be the same. Timmy…
If there is a Rotten Egg award for the decade this series will win! WHAT? The producers and director and the writer is planning a Season 2?? Haven't forbid! What, do it for private viewing is it?
