"hopeless" is the name of the game of western media. IT is intentionally nurtured that way, produces more consumers LOL And precisely THAT is what I dislike about it.
Life is depressing and heavy yet ... there are also warm shades to it... and also.. there is hope :) IF you know how. Well yeah if you have 2 feet and 2 arms and are able to work, that is :) if not then it can be really daunting... but still... there is LIFE that is glorious and hopeful. There is always a way out and a way to be happy calm and peaceful and quietly joyfull.
Western shows just do not know how :)
Kdramas do :) They show ppl doing inner work and also collaborating. It is masterful applicatoon of .. Buddhism, actually :) Taking self responsiblity and then treating others with COMPASSION.
That is the ingredient you are missing - COMPASSION. That produces warmth and comedy and lightness that kdramas have.. .. the TOGETHERNESS
western shows are mostly about isolated individuals suffering, and kdramas are about ppl working together to make the world a better place... Western shows that are supposedly about "friends" like Friends, show a group of selfish ppl just haviing fun. There is no aspect of REAL "TOGETHER" and that makes it very empty. Friends show is totally meaningless.
Christianity teaches ppl about guilt, shame, etc and never about getting really happy. Jesus did it but nobody shows HOW he did it... But Buddhists know how to do it and they do show the way. It is very simple - meditaation, self observation, compassion towards others... ANd that is where kdramas step in to show it within an amusing story ...

Seems like you don't like subtle or thoughtful stuff with numerous shades of emotions and finesse and very deep subjects. Seems like you dont like to look inside humans and their relationships and how things work out.
Walking on thin ice is realistic but not really great bc NOTHING gets worked out at the end. The story sort of hangs in the space, the characters never did the inner work to move on forward. THAT is a very western concept. and that is why I dislike western stuff :) It is so isolated and hopeless ML should have run back into her arms. I am not sure why it never happened, is it the stigma about age diference or what. But he committing suicide was such a waste of drama. He didnt change ONE little bit.
S Lines, no matter how cheesy, had some profound messages. Discovery of love is a super heavy sophisticated psychogical drama about digging deep inside ourselves and really uprooting some character flaws, and then relating to another from there. It is super profound. The scene when she hides in the closet and he accepts to kiss her is one of the slimiest ever scenes of collusion and toxic enabling of two very lazy fake people...
Congratulations fans 🥳. No tail to tell ranked #6 globally on Netflix. But the rating should be increased ❤️❤️❤️💯.
yeah it has everything it needs to be globally appealing... it is a light fluffy fun fantasy but is also deep and very "honest" - it very very deeply questions the meaning of life, karma, etc... and asks all the same questions we ask ourselves LOL and then offers the answers - the angel clearly says - cultivate yourself so that you can transform into something better - so it engages the higher parts of the brain just enough to wake you up and refresh you, but not so much to overwhelm the beginners LOL which is, basically, 95% of the human population :) No Tail is an excursion into alpha state of the consciousness... So I think it will be great for the global audience

well the others listed here are not bad at all... I like them all. Idol I is not listed, I think it is great, the best ever performance of ML, he should get an award for it, and the dialogue is super cool
Judge Returns is .. well... run of the mill except that Ji Sung makes it special... h is a unique troublemaker jester and just causes chaos anywhere LOL

Miss Hong has cheesy plot and I wonder WHY I am so glued to the screen and the only reason is - FL is just a great great catchy acting.... I concluded that she somehow connects with the audience and makes it real. I am still trying to figure it out...
No Tail is a true masterpiece ... FL is so fun to watch and ML is a great comedian too, just in more subtle ways. I will always remember the scene after they magic travel LOL he is sooo good at being polite and mocking awkward social situations LOL

LOL I am speaking from personal experience - those are the dramas I watch :) Right now, it is Idol I for resolving some social issues, Love Me for understanding toxic families LOL No Tail to Tell to understand karma , .... and I think To my Beloved Thief qualifies too, the dialogue is AMAZING.
kdramas are masterful storytelling, deep messages in a light compassionate warm way, and lots of humor. yeah there are bad kdramas, but chances are very high to find a good one :)
And i have watched even better ones.. I can throw some drama names if you are interested in heavy thinking dramas :) Hm.. Walking on Thin Ice, S-lines, Discovery of Love, etc etc are all heavy hitters :)
If you want to take into account Dynamite Kiss and Can This love be translated, then heck no, those are brain dead LOL

I hear you, it is a redneck drama and the cheesy humor is not funny to me.. BUT then ... it sometimes dips deeper and is very very ... lovely... like when they were the doggy parents. But yeah it is a fluffy drama. Luckily it is a WARM fluffy drama. It has generally positive vibe. Yeah the plot is not rocket science LOL but it is a fluffy family drama for a redneck family. LOL
