He would have treated her like a human being with feelings. She was the one speaking plainly at every turn. He was the one that plastered a smile to hide his true feelings. Being hurt is not the issue. Being treated like a casualty of war is. When did he show he cared about her feelings at all?

Overall what was the message sent to the viewer of the three? Good guys always lose?

The better alternative would have been, when he found out Makiko was divorced after the met again AND knowing that he still loved her AND knowing that he wouldn't marry Hiromi from the get, he SHOULD have ended things. He was an asshole for how he treated her.

It would have been better had he gathered some balls and not used her as he did. He knew he was in love with Makiko BUT Hiromi still had to drag it out of him at the end. He apoke of a future and immediately told her she was not in it while waking from a sleep without nightmares and smiled at her like now that it's over it's time for us to separate. Which person who has been in a long term relationship doesn’t hope eventually they will be picked. Every step of the way he has to be forced to admit his actions like a child. What made him the prize?

That was painful to watch. It's like she lost her pride and personality after she asked him why did he invite her when Makiko invited him to throw the ball with Masaki. After that she became a puppet. She knew he wouldn't commit, so why stick around. The most painful part were the words he said referring to a future and immediately spoke of supporting Makiko. I get so angry thinking on it. Why was he portrayed as the ideal? SMH!!!

Which was a lesson he didn’t learn with Makiko getting a get out of jail free card at the end.

Exactly. Like a child taking a piece of candy because they always wanted it but couldn't have it. So it's blown up in their minds. She was willing to sleep with the exhusband before they were interrupted that night. She used everyone conveniently at some point.

Dean is not a clown. He lost the one he wanted due to his financial situation and wanting to handle it alone. He is irritating and knows Jack well enough to how to block access to him. Is he likeable at this point? No. Is that clown behavior? I think not.

This is the first time I'm seeing Boom act a role that is unlike his previous sympathetic but stable characters and I truly like it. It shows growth and range.
