I too find the show great, but also think that their relationship could have been handled better. Personally,…
Yes they are total soul mates, and understand each other like no one else. That means everything to them. And if they weren't so absolutely gorgeous both of them our response would be totally different. That is true of all cinema I think and that's our fantasy escapism.
Though this comment is too focused on the male lead's waning youth, it speaks the truth, unfortunately. I have…
A potentially interesting idea, but this is FF material, as you outlined, I seriously don't get what an actor of LJW calibre is doing in here (Bulgasal, High Society etc). Even if he wanted to do a lighter comedy, he could have chosen something well crafted, interesting and fresh.
There's all kinds of art isn't there? It runs the entire gamut of emotions. Art is essentially the stories we…
I think the sadness and disconnect stems from the way the family members are so remote and unsupportive of each other. Imo it's mainly the father who is a closed up, inarticulate guy who can never show warmth or kindness to his family which he comes to realise in later eps. What the siblings go through is not awful trauma etc like in My Mister, but in their own way they were truly lonely and struggling to find a way in life. The way the mother was treated was seriously awful, she was so lonely and ignored that she virtually passed away from sadness. I think this was so well highlighted when the family next door all took selfies, having fun in their field, saying their crop was so much better than next door. Just a metaphor.
The reunion between our couple was weird and really anticlimactic. Im never okay with a partner disappearing and…
Personally I'm totally loving the show for a lot of reasons but I have to agree that Gu and MJ getting back together seemed like an incongruous Disney dream after all their respective misery over those years apart. Even though Gu is so appealing as Mr Charming Tough Ass, his behaviour over all is pretty disgusting, the way he left MJ and eg. the way he treated the women in the cosmetic company etc etc. He drinks so much he should be on an intravenous alcohol drip, and he needs to buy a decent puffer jacket. Otherwise this is one of the best Kdramas I have ever seen.
Kudos to everyone involved in making MLN!! It's just the best series imo!! Amazingly clever writing, real people grappling in their own individual way with life, Yeom Chang Hee with verbal diarrhoea, Mi Jung and Mr Goo have virtually shut down their communication to cope, the parents in a constant stressed mood, Ki Jung by being overly inappropriately expressive and honest, but what she has to say is so poignant and interesting. The ennui of repetitive everyday life and work, crushed dreams and fantasies, the reality and complexity of people, relationships, work. There is a really slow reveal of each characters background so we are getting to understand their behaviour. And then suddenly there are events like the storm, Goo's long jump scene, everything is unpredictable, including the pace. It is so beautifully shot. It represents what a lot of us actually deal with, as opposed to the usual escapist kdramas. It may not be for everyone, but I absolutely love it.
Really enjoyed every moment of ep 1, it's just so well done in every respect. Fantastic cast. How can you go wrong. There is so much great stuff on atm The King of Pigs, Military Prosecutor Doberman, just amazingly good!
Why? why? why? My love for Park Hyung Sik is endless but this is ....Don't get me wrong PHS is great in all aspects…
Yes exactly! Every cliche in the book, but her acting is awful and not believable, like she's going through the motions with the script. Amazing because I thought she was great in My Name. In this she looks like a nervy amateur. And ML's friend/manager is also weirdly non believable, his acting is also contrived and over the top.
I can't help enjoying this drama, but 8 eps of NGJ being a narcissistic a'hole is a bit much, although on the other hand at least it didn't descend into trope boring predictable bla. I just feel sorry for LSA she's always so anxious and nervous and abused by him. I really like her, she's so cute and good hearted. NGJ's little victory dance is a total rip off from John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.
I subscribe to the Weather Channel Premium irl, so I already know how interesting weather and weather-related…
I agree, well said. although they are sure making a lot of drama about their ex partners finding out, I think other factors are more interesting like the gambling fathers etc.
god, song kang's character sucks. at least with yoon park's, we're supposed to see him as he antagonist, but,…
She's a good actress, but doesn't seem to extend herself. these days since Healer..I guess she tried with When The Weather is Fine. but that was like the other extreme, like Skandinavian noir!
It's interesting how opinions vary, and it's impossible to argue with personal preference, it's just the way it…
Yes that's a fair observation, it's very personal!! On the "too hard" point you make, I am really glad that in this drama there is none of the endless breaking down torrential weeping and screeching over past or present trauma that goes on in most Kdramas. Even though you can already tell both leads attitude is based on past events, they are refreshingly tough and comedic!!
It's interesting how opinions vary, and it's impossible to argue with personal preference, it's just the way it is, and fair enough, all of us have the same thing going on. I personally love to watch Jo Bo Ah in anything, to me she is stunningly beautiful, and an actress who really commits to her role. I think she has an amazing capacity to perform a whole range of characters with a really high level of skill. To me she has a kind of intelligence that shines through even when she's cute and feminine, or on a revenge mission with kickass martial arts skills. She doesn't just use her beauty to do fluffy, lazy performances. Her presence in a drama means it's probably going to be high level, and captivating, and probably not cliche, trope driven and boring.
I'm really enjoying this!! Jo Bo Ah is just the most adorable, talented actress,. I really like her kick arse character in this. I loved her in Tale of The Nine Tailed, and I can't imagine series 2 without her. Ahn Bo Hyun is great,! Thus far the writing seems free of endless tropes and cliches, you can't see what's coming. I rank this with Bad and Crazy which I thought was fantastic. It's so entertaining, and touches on some serious issues, can't wait to see what happens.
Otherwise this is one of the best Kdramas I have ever seen.
Gong Yoo "I worship you....My Liberation Notes"!!!
