No because the REAL insanity of this show is that it keeps pretending it’s about destiny and romance when it’s…
Wow, you have summed up all the complex nuances so amazingly. I wonder if even the writers are this aware of the multi layers of this story. I seriously so much enjoyed reading what you have to say because the craft of a drama is so fascinating to me. How a group of creatives manage to put a show together that requires so much thought and reflection right through from casting, script to cinematography. So agree that ML characterisation is all over the place, as is FL (one minute she's a regal, powerful, switched on, hyper aware, take no shit, woman operating in an era 300 years in advance, then she's a vulnerable weeping, damsel in distress. But that vacillation and lack of strict, conventional rigid stereotyping which are the bane of many kdramas, which makes them so boring and predictable, is in essence what makes this show hysterically funny, it's all over the place without a coherent narrative. But that chaos is the method of making statements about life, values, etc as you point out. Congrats.
My only issue with that scene is that the path they took into the forest was lit up 🤔. So all she had to do…
Exactly, how did she get from the pathway into the thick of a forest??? lol , how convenient. How did she go from a resilient, powerhouse of a woman to a drivelling mess, while only metres from the highly lit pathway near the hotel? So silly.
She was just trying to help the old manand the grandson that later came didn't go with her, instead he went after…
I thought exactly the same thing, although I'm really liking this drama, and find it hilarious, the forest thing was ridiculous, she walked straight off a normal pathway, and was suddenly in the thick of some "forest", totally distressed. When in the first ep, she navigated an entire new era with guts and determination, beat up thugs as you say, was switched on and amazingly resilient, a powerhouse. Suddenly she has to be rescued by the "guy"...I suppose strong women have vulnerable moments, but her character is all over the place, and the vulnerable moment was just a device to develop the "rom" part of the romcom.
PAJ really? You wait until he finds out it was her that sent that email. Guess what? Like I said, several episodes,…
I know JJY looks seriously depressed, I thought the same. I wonder how the writer is going to pull him out of this miserable situation, he virtually gave up everything in the hope he could turn back time.
I love this show, but their zeal when trying to uncover affairs, etc seems ridiculous when they are having an undercover affair, or is it ok because neither is married. I don't get the rules.
This is one of the funniest things I've seen in ages. I am actually laughing out loud which I virtually never do, while watching dramas. It's hysterical and ridiculous. I had no idea of how good IJY was at comedy, I have only seen her in The Glory. The ML is doing a great job as her serious straight foil, and his secretary is fantastically witty and fast. . The entire cast is excellent, It's just so entertaining, and you're still intrigued about what is going to happen next.
The writing on him is inconsistent and too plot convenient. Him treating the FL like her only value is to be his…
Yes exactly. We don't know too much about their past relationship. Obviously FL encouraging him to marry for the company, while secretly wanting him to pursue her, pushed him into a miserable existence. Also she must have known about his mother's situation, so she dedicated herself to support him I'm assuming. To the point where she did something quasi illegal. And it's true the character is so depressed and downtrodden and trying to keep his dignity. He is otherwise kind and keeping his boundaries intact. I suppose all of us in an extreme situation can do weird out of character things. Given his wife, mother, father and brother, maybe he can be forgiven for being desperate.
I'm still enjoying this drama though it's not light and funny anymore, now very D & M. The cast is just too good. Unfortunately I can't seem to dislike SML, he seems so miserable. What happened to his wife, she just seemed to disappear?
hard to understand how such talented, people with dynamic jobs etc can be so unbelievably boring, cringe and awkward. Their conversations are sooooo dull, slow and the insane, self conscious attention to their looks is OCD beyond, if Koreans are seriously like this, I feel sorry for them. The panel is equally dull, trying desperately to dredge up something to comment on, it's a total joke. I'm dropping this one, the season before was actually not bad. By comparison Singles Inferno was seriously entertaining, even knowing the whole thing was edited to the max, the panel was absolutely fantastic. That's my take, sorry if you disagree.
Honestly I'm just in awe over the production of Yumi's Cells in general. The animation is so phenomenal, and so clever, each little detail and response, set in the perfect environment is totally hilarious, and so realistic in terms of the ridiculous detailed stuff we all think and feel, and try to cover up. The OST is just gorgeous. The little cells are super cute and adorable. I'm just in love at how this drama manages to capture all the insane, absurd paths we take, the confusion, the idiotic thinking and actions, the mistakes, the apologies, the misunderstanding. We all do it, and this is done with so much love and compassion. It's really lovely how Yumi gets to understand Sun Rok over time, and how he has to fight with himself (and Ju Ho) to get finally how he feels. This is such a feel good drama, so well written, it's just flawless to me. That scene in the village with all the colourful houses was just too beautiful. It made me want to visit whatever that place is. I feel like once the couple get together, it's game over in a sense. If it went too much further after that it becomes filler material. So the plot is tight, and most of the action is about how they get there.
