halfway through, this could have been a masterpiece without the documentaristic cut, some part of it, at least to me, are hard to follow, but it becomes lively when it comes to the imperial house private life. if only the two parts could have been more balanced!

It was very mellow. This show portrays the real life situation in their era.
i think Maozhe is shipping himself with her too ahaha (the look on his face the first time he sees her!)

that's what i'm apreciating the most about this drama (i'm not a teen age girl after romance and idols). if only they could do it a bit faster ahaha

i'm on episode 34, so far it isn't that bad, but has too many dead moments and some arcs drag too long (like the Liao wars), sometimes it looks like the edit choose to focus on meaningless events and left out more interesting things. what i'm apreciating is that the concubines a real characters and not just cartoonish villains, i like how they're portraying Pan guifei, with all her struggles leaving the mean-girl part just on the side

XD i did and whitout skipping anything, i know i'm kind of a hero ahahaha the plot isn't that bad, let's say Wu Meiniang/Li Zhi save the whole thing, but yes the fl arc is dumb, her character is written so bad that she looks stupid and unreasonable

given the subject it can't stay a commedy for long, the story should involve the princes fight for the crown, heads are going to roll, and there's Wu Mei Niang (the future Wu Ze Tian)

i told myself to wait until it ends but i couldn't wait, i laso just ended Xiao Chuo and part of the story is related to it, now i watched 8 episodes. the first 4 are sort of "previously on" XD reading your comments i was expecting something a lot worse but maybe because my expectations were already low it didn't look that bad, we got spared from a lot od drama tropes like misunderstangings, wrong accusations and petty jealousies. so far the story got me hooked

you're welcome! Ming Lan is a jewel i strongly recomand it. it's compelling, the characters are realistic and well written so is the story, not plot holes and a very few tropes and most of all has a satisfying ending, wich is more that you can say about the majority of dramas

I've long been interested in how childbirth is portrayed in film and television. I would be thrilled to see more…
The story of Ming Lan, set a couple of decade after this drama, has a very realistic hildbirth scene. also the Rebel Princess show some decent chilbirth scene with actual babies, not real newborn of course, but no more the 3 months old (and covered in childbirth material)
