I agree. YX shouldn't have died. He was the last man standing after all. The writer really messed up there.
I agree, this is what makes his character and the story the more compelling and make us as viewers, cry, or scream bloody murder. His death, really hit a note, but he did it on his own terms. He character growth arc was what made him so endearing.
I saw many spoilers before episode 15 of the drama aired, but I'm not here to talk about spoilers. A good story…
Thank you for the links. I really appreciate it.
This drama totally exceeded my expectations, especially since I usually stay away from this genre. But something about the relational dynamics of this show drew me ināand then there was the unexpected chemistry between the ML and FL. I didn't really know either of them. I'd only seen Ren Mi in The Longest Promise, where she got a lot of criticism because people weren't happy with her being paired with star power Xiao Zhan. But honestly? I found myself rooting for her. And Ci Sha was relatively unknown to meānow I'm super curious to watch him in movies where he excels with his martial arts background.
I was also intrigued by Zuo Ye in this drama, because of the innocent puppy love between him and the FL in the beginningāsilent, but you could clearly see the attraction, and then it was shut down. I'm still trying to understand what's leading him (Chen Xuanqing) to act out of character. But I'm guessing that the more repressed you are, stuffing all your feelings down and never letting them be known, the more you'll react out of a sense that feels completely justifiable inside your own headspace.
Apart from fawning (oops) over the ML's maturity, the person that really got to me was Ye Xian. Like I said, in the beginning I didn't understand why he kept pointing a gun or shooting an arrow at the FL. But I think that's who he wasānot who he became. His growth trajectory was compelling. And him choosing to love from afar, wishing the best for the person he loves? It's so heartbreaking.
And the choices he had to make? I would have broken. But he didn't. He grew. He stayed true to who he was, arrogant on the outside, soft underneath, but every choice he made after facing hardship, was to protect what he loved. No matter the cost.
Itās in top 10 talked about dramaIn maoyan website. I think it performed better than they expected but obviously…
thank you for clarifying... it would be a shame if this masterpiece did not get the right recognition. i never like this kind of drama era.. normally shy away, but this got me hook and emotionally attached as well. sigh

I really admire you. You have this innate ability to see through characters and understand them on a whole other level. You named a few characters in the show and truly grasped their development, their thoughts and motivation in a way I hadn't even considered. That's a gift.
I feel like I'm watching the drama on the surface, and you're watching it from inside every character's heart. Thank you for sharing that with me. It makes watching so much richer.
Thank you for sharing different viewpoints so graciously. I too wish we can all discuss every character's trajectory or storyline with more responsibility.
I have read what you shared about Xuanqing, and I didn't even begin to think of it like that. I really appreciate you opening my eyes to see what led Xuanqing to act the way he did upon finding out, and how his appreciation for his uncle turned into something darker. That's a perspective I completely missed, and now I want to go back and watch those scenes again.
can you link the episode 34 preview cant find it on mango tv?
no clue.. i also cannot understand mandarin and need the subs. but yes looks like she granted him the divorce paper, something happened to him, he is injured? he then reflected and then look like they got back together again?
I just caught up to the wedding episode. And I need to say this first: the cinematography is remarkable. The way the ML gazed at his bride, like she was the only light in a world full of shadows, and that slow walk down the aisle with the palladin procession. So beautifully done. I am definitely rooting for the ML and the FL in this series, because together they make a truly powerful couple, full of understanding and maturity.
Now let's talk about our second lead, Ye Xian.
I know he's divisive. I know some viewers outright hate him. And look, I'm not here to pretend he's innocent. When he pointed that weapon at the FL? I flinched. When he whipped her? I was genuinely shocked. That crossed a line.
But here's the thing: I don't think the drama asks us to excuse him. It asks us to understand him. There's a difference.
When you're seeing red, people do lose their minds temporarily. That doesn't make it right. But it does make it human. And what struck me most was his own shock after he hurt her. That was someone horrified at what he'd done.
That whipping came because the FL called him exactly what he wasāgood for nothing. She told him the truth about himself. That moment I believe, it's where his change began. He started to recognize the pampered life he'd led, growing up with illness, yes, but also sheltered from any real duty, living a life of comfort while others carried the weight. He didn't make terrible choices out of malice. He just never had to grow up. Until now.
Now he's paying back. Big time.
The closure talk between him and the FL was beautifully written. For the first time, I understood why she still holds a special place for him in her heart. It's not romantic love. It's recognition. They're kindred spiritsācut from the same cloth, shaped by the same fires. And precisely because they're so alike, she knows a life with him would never boil well. Two people that similar, carrying that much pain? They'd burn each other down. She told him he is special to her... but they can only be friends.
My heart really goes out to Ye Xian. Juggling heartache and the strong political powers at play that are trying to take down his family and have all his lineage executed. When push comes to shove, he still chooses to do the right thing to save his family.
And now we're looking at an incurable illness, limited time left, and Ren Mi herself hinting that not everyone will make it out alive. I don't think Ye Xian survives this drama. In fact, I believe she alluded to thatāher wish was that all the characters that have to leave... she wishes they would still come back.
You can love a flawed character without excusing their worst moments. You can feel for Ye Xian while still being glad the FL chose the ML. You can root for the main couple and grieve for the second lead. Both things can be true.
So please, no hate. I'm just here with my heart in pieces, rooting for everyone to find some version of peace. That wedding episode made me cry. For the beauty. And for the tragedy. All in one episode.

That's the Ye Xian I'll remember.
