Came out today and has more viewers than the Princess Royal?!
To be fair, kisskh isn't the most accurate data. However, I also am not too surprised if it was the case since the main cast for this drama is technically more popular than the ones from Princess Royal. There is quite a disparity with the general audience reach both dramas have. This drama is meant to reach a wider audience... since they also put in the effort to get a tv slot and several different platforms buying the rights to air it. Not to say this drama will perform better but it is clear the production is hoping for this to be big.

Am mostly interested in this drama because of the two leads but in particular Tan Song Yun. It appears most of her dramas in which she is the main lead in does fairly well so I am mostly curiously if she will keep her good drama streak or not LOL

This show has ppl questioning if there’s double meaning behind everything lol
oh goodness?! Several times too?! Alas, I'm more than fine with pointing out trends and the fact that the film industry likes to pop out genres that are recently popular one after another. Though i find more issues if the facts aren't straight. People who only watch dramas not understanding the origin of the drama and making assumptions that one drama is a copy of another when they are based on novels... who copy from something else. One can give credit to a drama for kickstarting the trend of adaptations but it just ends there lol. Though I am personally more than fine with this trend since this genre in novels is something i enjoy a lot. I read more than enough to know they are all very similar but not enough to accuse one copying another when they are all following a trend LOL. Though I too don't know the original source of the trend. Reality is that said novel probably hasn't been translated yet or made into an adaption to a drama.

yeah... um. those fans are batsh*t crazy still LOL thank them for the content but wow seeing how close they shove their cameras at them is extremely uncomfortable to watch from my point of view of someone who doesn't like to get near people. I even get on the subways and hide behind my friend in a corner when there's a few too many people... and they aren't even shoving cameras at me. Alas the downside of being a celebrity.

Yeah quite honestly i love this drama but the ending does irk me forever. Less on the ending with him galloping towards her without showing his face. I already see that as him being alive for my point of view. More towards their decision to kill the subordinates. I wrote a whole rant somewhere in the comment section of how they could have accomplished the same ending result but leave viewers on a happier note/ implied happier note yet giving the same amount of ambiguity in the war scene. I view things from the directors point of view so i see the intention of him purposely causing a somewhat mellow and sad aftereffect room for people to see things as a sad ending. Forever my biggest issue with Chinese director is how they love to end dramas in the weirdest mellow open endings. But this is coming from someone who prefers happy endings... or open endings leaning on happy ending.

It is still all about aesthetics and the directors taste. Regardless of art of war aspects it is entirely irrelevant to the direction the director was going. The director would obviously say it's a happy ending because the novel it's based on is one. Also if he didn't say so he would get way more hate then he already does. I personally saw it as a happy ending but by definition is still an open ending. There is no definitive who she saw was really him or if she wasn't imagining it. They only indicate it... that's the point of open endings. There's just enough clues to give you room to imagine how you personally see it. And that was what the director was going for. Chinese directors are notorious for giving open endings which I personally dislike. There are also many ways to go about directing the ending scene to portray similar results but in a more positive light but hey didn't. The way they killed off the subordinates and gave an extra shot of enemy troops or whoever it may be coming towards him is a way for them to make viewers feel a sense of anxiety for the ML. Cutting it off there and then filming the ending scene in almost a "dreamlike" state is all for interpretation of how the viewers thought about the ending during the war scene. In the end this was for aesthetics ( as with many of his other shots) and precisely how the director wanted it to go. To him it's a happy ending and those like us by interpretation. However, to many others it wasn't. That was the goal the director was going for. If it was truly a happy ending, there can be no place for argument. He just needed to film the leads completely together hugging or whatever it may be... show the guys face or whatever it may be.

I say there is no way to change someone's mind is because you can't change how the ending made them feel especially open endings. It's not viewers sticking to cliches or viewers upset over not following a trope... it's quite the opposite. As I said Chinese directors are notorious for giving open endings like this. It's so notorious that all my Chinese acquaintances immediately knew what i was worried about when i said am scared for the ending a few weeks back. The point is a true happy ending wouldn't give other people the impression it's a sad ending. the fact there are people who think it's sad is more then enough of an indicator that it's an open ending. Chinese directors are known to want to give either an open ending or sad ending because it is believed that it makes a drama more "memorable."

When i recommend this drama to people I dare not say it's a definitive happy ending cause it technically wasn't. I caution with " It's technically an open ending that leans on happy ending. Bonus video confirms happy ending."

I copy past this post on the discussion to refer to it to the believer of the sad ending. This is a happy ending…
I don't think you can truly convert someone's opinion on how they felt in terms of the official ending (excluding the extra). They had purposely filmed an open ending to allow for interpretation of a sad ending.... which is the point of open endings. Although everything indicates it's an overall happy ending. They never truly wanted to give a complete conclusive happy ending to begin with... because they went for aesthetics. the two subordinates didn't have to die in my opinion to get the same result. The direction they aimed for was precisely to give people to ability to decide if they see a happy endings or sad ending

i realized there r so many characters here who were also in scent of time- duke su, jiuyue, li zhongnan, liu xu…
It happens quite often... sometimes to often. Especially so with newer and upcoming actors. they establish a good connection with the director or scriptwriter so they get re-casted for another drama together as the have shown to have good working relationship before. I also wouldn't be surprised if they networked with one another to land the role either lol.

I am honestly slightly upset about the endings LOL but I still love the drama and the ending didn't change my opinion about the overall drama itself. The ending was okay... could have been worse considering how much I distrust Chinese directors/scriptwriters for this very reason. I can never understand their love for vague open endings and sad endings. Alas I can only blame it on the fact I just like happy endings more. Was I disappointed? Yes I was but I don't feel that empty about the ending which is a good sign that the ending it satisfactory enough for me.

Unfortunately i still have issues with how the way the last several minutes was directed was highly unnecessary. Why couldn't the two subordinates still live? Can someone please verify with me if they died in the novel? Cause I doubt they have the same excuse of still being in highschool like the maid. If stated they actually died in the novel then I'll let the director/scriptwriter slide... otherwise the ending was just their sadistic desire to add some tragedy since the main leads get a happy endings. They could have easily done the scene where XH 1 v 1 the main general guy and got his pendant dropped but killed the dude as intended. Whilst the subordinates killed off the rest of the enemy there. XH can still have his money shot moment with the pendant whilst the three of them gather back to back like they did the shot. Next pan to the shots of more enemy solders marching forth. Cut back to the three then fade out. Perfectly conveying they are three against a huge army therefore just enough hint they might actually die in battle together but also just enough to portray a potential of backup coming. Ultimately end with XH frolicking back as they have apparently wanted it to end with. That would have easily delivered the same type of message at the end. But at least people would be just as happy with the potential of the subordinates living and they don't even need to address if they lived or not either! But at least not showing their death is so much better. End rant.... wait I have more about the extra. Like tell me they didn't hurry to give a nicer ending cause they knew they fu*ked up without telling me they knew they fu*ked up. Cute idea horrible execution towards the end. Still very adorable but wtf is with breaking the forth wall. Clearly the scriptwriter wasn't entirely involved. Can easily towards the end just use all those scenes but no dialogue. Collage the scenes with their kid and them together having a great time and music intro then fade out... perfect without the extra weird forth wall. Okay really end of rant lol.

I do ultimately really enjoyed the drama. Quite sad it ended so fast. One of those few moments I wish there were more episodes. I feel like I can write an essay of how amazing all the scenes are in the drama and what made it so great. aspects of the scriptwriting and the type of changes that made in the drama compared to parts of what I heard of the novel. But no one wants to hear me gush lol Will just end with how this drama has made my year greater.

I wonder what XH felt when he knew XFF was dead
I felt like he was thinking more along the lines of " That's quite unfortunate for someone so seemingly bright to have passed away." I don't think he was particularly sad as he didn't know her on any personal level. Interested and attracted to her... yes but nothing further. He knew everything was extremely suspicious with the ex-husband but it wasn't any of his business so... more of a fleeting thought of pity.

This is the first adaptation that has aired from the author so far. The author has several other novels they wrote. It also appears the author has recently sold the rights for the adaptation of majority of their novels. Two other adaptation of her other novels are currently being filmed at this moment. The last one ( one i referred to in regards to the FL being hostage in the novel) has yet to be filmed yet. There is currently only rumors of who might be casted for it... I also think perhaps that adaptation will be the most lucrative one since it may be one oftheir more popular ones. It was one of the first novels to be completely translated in English. That novel is really good but hasn't been turned into a drama yet.

I swear to dear lord if they don't get a happy ending I'll be so pissed of. Even more so if there is an open ending. I hate open endings so much. I already regret starting this drama cause i have trust issues with Chinese directors already LOL. I'll be even more upset because it appears the author has sold the rights to majority of her novels. I really like what's happening with this drama but if the ending is smack then it may be an indicator the other adaptations will have the same fate. Which am so unwilling because there is the other novel i really like from the author that hasn't started filming yet as well and this drama is giving me such high hopes for the other one.

Hostage princess and princes, we have seen in many dramas, sadly none of them ended up happily. Wannings case…
Hmm.. I don't think the emperor sent her there... well we will never know. maybe he did. I think there is a high possibility she went for the "peace" of their country so she could have went on her own accord as well or went after being encouraged by someone... could be her brother, emperor himself or the governors. The emperor may not know what happened to her but he probably knew she went through hardship there. Though I saw her situation from a mile away when she mentioned she went as a hostage for the kingdom so her scene didn't shock me in the least. The author in another novel wrote a very similar situation for her FL.

Jiang Li probably didn't know what happened to her but honestly its the method of revenge Jiang Li uses. She exposes "truth". She basically helps light fires.

We need to distinguish between a slow burn drama and slow burn a romance. This drama is not slow burn in any way,…
I think the issue lies in the fact this drama isn't really meant for everyone lol. I think a lot of the people who say those things prefer the revenge or romance that is just shoved in your face and more obvious in the visual sense of things. Or the type that's very dramatic and the changes are quite obvious or outright said with dialogue. They would prefer romance with more physical contacts or revenges that are more cruel and intense. All of which is something this drama isn't. The romance and revenge is more of the long game type. There isn't necessarily a filler moments but rather a constant rate of growth which... i guess for people are categorized as slow burn. I like it the way it is as the romance is more on the emotional and intellectual side of things in terms of chemistry. Which based on another novel i read by the same author, checks out. The revenge is rather subtle in the sense where the leads are using "karma" to get back at the people which isn't everyone's cup of tea lol

hmmm... there is a possibility some scenes were face ai generated. But I think most of the scenes were reshot if they had solo shots of her. The only case that may not have been reshot is the scenes that had a lot of people to which they probably wouldn't want to reshoot. That is under the assumption that jiang yiyi was really the original person. Yet even with that assumption Zhao Qing being casted is a pretty obvious choice. She has worked with the director and producer before so it's not uncommon for them to recast her for another role.
