The writer doesn't do a good enough job of weaving the fun cooking/time travel premise in with the overall plot--it was so tied in at the beginning through the first competition, but the ming competition had nothing to do with the overall plot and now the cooking/time travel part of the show and the treachery plot aren't even really connected. She's not using her knowledge of the future to help him, she doesn't need to cook to save her life anymore and her cooking isn't central to uncovering the uncle and consort kang (her making the meal for the prince was just a random tacked on thing at this point). This happens SO SO often with shows that have a fun premise like this and it's frustrating.
I'm gonna finish and I am still enjoying it but the last couple weeks my excitement for this show has really gone down
I miss him in roles where he is sweet and upbeat like in when the weather is fine and Search WWW, he does just as well in these roles as the dark and serious ones.
Earlier news from this show said straight out the twin died and Do Ha pretended to be him to fool the FL, so I think it's something that comes up very early on.
20 eps in and this drama is so good, I can't believe I've already watched 20, it feels like it moves so quickly. LOVING the romantic tension between the leads, so fun how they flirt non-stop at this point. Love whoever is playing the duke, he does not let a lot show on his face, yet I don't find him boring or wooden at all, the actor does such a good job with tiny expressions to let you know his inner world, he's so captivating.
So refreshing to see her taking on this darker role, I think she'll do a great a job. And there is just something about KYD I find so appealing idk man. Excited for this one. I like it when they have a webtoon to draw from, it often makes the plot more coherent and they don't run out of story halfway through like almost all dramas these days.
Oh no her again .... She cant act romance whatsoever
She sold it in a huge way in moon embracing the sun with Jingoo and love in the moonlight w bogum, but I think that worked because they were both kids in moon and Bogum is also very childlike/innocent as an actor. Kim Young Dae brings an innocence and gentleness to all his roles so I think it will work well here, esp siince in this role she needs to have a sharper edge.
i enjoyed the bong su plotline but i agree the last two episodes were a mess in my pov. things should have resolved…
I liked the bong su plotine at first a lot, I think they should have wrapped his up at episode 9, and then focused on Yeom Hwa as the ultimate villian vs forcing her into a redemption arc.
This was Lovely Runner (the new romcom standard) all over again. FL sacrificing herself over and over again to…
OMG yes, such a great comparison! spot on.
I'm a little salty Ji Ho didn't have a secondary love line, or any of his own goals in life really? that woulda been super nice. I think the actor squeezed every last drop out of that script, and made what could have been (and probably should have been) a forgettable character into a memorable one. will def check out his next project
Bruh you are obviously just looking for attention, since you can't get positive you'll take negative, like a kid throwing rocks to get people to notice him. And I guess I'll give you a little more since that's what you crave.
An actor's main goal is to elicit an emotional response in the audience. IU does that for many many many many people, so maybe she's not your cup of tea, or you're projecting your own inadequacy on her or whatever is going on with you, but she's not a bad actor just because you don't like her. And calling her the worst actress in Asia is an obvious exaggeration and shows you're not coming from a genuine place with your "hot take"
But hey you got a few people on MDL to argue with you, so you must feel really cool and smart.
Like a lot of dramas this had a great starts and kinda fizzled out at the end. idk why writers never seem to have enough of a story for all episodes. It stopped being about Gyoen U and his curse and focused too much on Bong Su and Yeom Hwa, and the bong su storyline just kept repeating and dragging out, the last eps were confusing and kinda pointless until the end. Also the writer had no idea what to do with Ji HO after midway and he was just kinda there doing nothing for episodes, he contributed nothing to the plot. There were some really good character moments but just not enough story. But I still enjoyed it and I'll miss the characters and world.
Ok the whole Bongsu plotline gives me whiplash -- he was out here murdering people as a vengeful spirit, but then once possessed acts like a sulky teen with a good heart and is used for comedy most of the time, but they still talk about him as if he is super dangerous, but also no one seems THAT concerned about him even though he is supposedly pure evil, and they're even letting him take over Gyeon U's body?? The tone is wayyyy off, and it feels so confusing.
I binged this in 1 day and I'm ANGRY that I didn't wait till the end. This drama is SO fun and interesting. The FL is so funny and adorable. I love how genuine she is. This is the only time a pushover FL hasn't annoyed me because even tho she doesn't stand up for herself, she will do anything to help her friends or others in need.
I wish we had way more second leads like Ji Ho, who actually knows what love and friendship means. He is not putting his own feelings or wants over her wants or needs, and he's also not basing his entire personality around her and is not obsessive or weird. He is just a normal, good guy who has a big crush on his close friend. He has really admirable sense of integrity and respect. And I really love that they make him friends with Gyeon U in his own right and not just because of Seong A.
This drama has all the usual tropes but they've added fresh twists onto them so it feels like a new story. Really enjoying it, I'm glad I finally listened to all of you saying how amazing it is.
I miss when Bo Gum used to play a serial killer, he is the same guy with a heart of gold in every show now. I wanna see him do something different where he plays a villain or at least an anti-hero,
I used to love Hong Sisters dramas but then realized they have no idea how to sustain a drama. They always start with such clever, interesting premises and use tropes SO well, and their actual scene to scene writing is some of the best out there, but plotwise and character arc wise everything falls apart about halfway through and then they manage to usually finish up decently so people forget the shite that was the third quarter of the story.
