2nd drama I've seen with Xiao Zhang, the first one being 'The Untamed' which I loved. I'm really surprised at how well he pulled off this character's personality, it's very different from Wei Wuxian who was energetic and mischievous. He's a talented and versatile actor, can't wait to see more from him. I'm a little more familiar with this FL and as always she didn't disappoint. Overall a good drama, a little too long but it was a nice story. The chemistry and the stares were great. And for once I loved the characters of the FL's parents.
I love both lead actors so I'm really surprised at how much I didn't like this drama. Basically, the plot is terrible, so many things just don't make sense. Some really cute 'anww' scenes, but mostly very awkward and cringy moments.
@Lovingit1962 As you know with the ban of BL in China it's not possible to make it too obvious, but it is a happy-ish ending for them. In the book it's inspired from the MLs are a real couple, it's not a bromance. Here it's more subtle but the story is really worth it.
The directing choices were odd along the way more than the writing. I felt a lot of the things blamed on the writing…
For me both the direction and the writing were lacking. But especially the writing: so many things just don't add up in the story. So many important elements are missing or maybe they cut more scenes than I thought 🤔 Of course, the actors would have trouble playing their roles when the characters' actions don't always make sense. If they can't even understand their motivations, it's even harder to play convincingly.
Really didn't like the ending, actually, there were many things I hated about this drama... It started off great, I had big expectations for Wei Zhi's character to evolve once she learned the truth but she didn't at all. There are so many annoying bad cuts and fast-forwarding years later, it looks like the writer couldn't wait to finish it and rushed the story. Even the love story wasn't really developed, didn't see much chemistry. The main characters' personalities were annoying for the most part. Their acting skills were okay but not the best, I didn't feel much emotion and was pretty detached from the story. Scenes that could have been impactful were messed up in my opinion. For example, the scene of the Phoenix's reveal was surprisingly underwhelming. The revenge against the 'bad guys' was disappointing too, it happens really fast and no one really gets punished for their actions. The arc story of the past was useless or maybe misplaced, it might have been better if they had put it at the beginning.
The CGI was amazing though ^^ too bad they didn't put as much thoughts into the actual story :/ Maybe my expectations were too high after watching 'TTEOTM' and 'The Starry Love' ...
PS: I find the title pretty funny when in the story the Phoenix has literally 0% resilience, the whole time she sacrifices herself for ML any chance she gets :/ As soon as she gets a little power she finds a new way to lose them and people have to save her ... again 🤦
It's funny how in most Xianxia Cdramas, the heavenly Emperor is always the one that ruins everything. I always end up hating them. But this one must be the worst: he's so shallow, self-centered and stubborn. Everyone is telling him he's wrong, but no, he keeps making terrible decisions 🙄
Wei Ling Yue literally led an army to kill people, while also using her power. Wei Zhi was defending herself and her family. In fact, every time her powers were activated it was to defend, not attack. But no one cares about that, they're all focused on the Phoenix's past. It's obvious that she wouldn't have turned that way if they weren't all trying to kill her. By trying to prevent the disaster they actually provoked it.

They should correct the genre here, it's confusing :/
