What an episode. What a fucking excellent episode. Damn, does Dong Ki Joon know his woman's mind and thought process. Every nuance of the way she thinks, without her actually having to speak it out loud. He absolutely knows she still loves him and why she is holding back because of her son. My man will wait and wait patiently for her, no matter how long it takes and she knows and appreciates it. The scene in the hospital holding his hand was poignant. He remembered it and again when they went back to her apartment and he held her wrist while talking about the film, he didn't let go, but squeezed her wrist tighter. He's not letting go. He's not letting her run away this time.
There's nothing sexier than a man who can make you laugh. From the beginning and I imagine in their past relationship, Dong Ki Joon has always been able to make Kim Sa Ra laugh. I love how direct he is with her. He's direct with his feelings. He's direct with his purpose at getting her back. He's direct about how much he understands her mind and thinking.
What I especially liked about the writing of this episode is how we're going to see the spy Office Manager flip her allegiance. For once we have an adversary who is seriously thinking about switching allegiances because she is intelligent enough to see the the good hearts in our protagonists. I found myself laughing at the scene with her and our hilarious CEO interrogating the cult leader. I think she enjoyed it a lot. I think she'd make a brilliant addition to the team and most importantly, she knows she's enjoying herself.
I have to laugh, as I thought divorce was scorned upon in South Korea, yet mummy and son are actively planning a THIRD wedding!! No way, that's beyond plausible. Surely, he'd be laughed upon?!
to be fair she hasn't seen the man in 9 years and we still don't know the circumstances of their break up (though…
Yes, I agree with you. There is definitely no real heat behind what she's said, quite the opposite. Its been very clear from the outset that she still loves him and is actually just mortally embarrassed about facing up to and telling him why she left him hanging at the airport.
You see, this is where we have to agree to disagree:-) I find it unexpected and inconsistent to her personality. We agree, she's been through hell the last 9-years and from all appearances was truly happy with him. If anything, he was the rock in her life and therefore she would have every reason to trust and rely on him. I don't see any reason to be wary of him, in fact, I think the writer would have been better off showing how much she relies and trusts him, because he has her back and hence why the ex is so jealous.
same. I hope they regain their momentum. no matter what I always had trust in Taiwanese BLs but these days.......
Ah yes, you mean Stay By My Side. Agree. That was just ok for me, gave it a 6.5 and sadly nothing since the iconic History series and We Best Love. I've watched all the ones you mentioned, Plus & Minus being my lowest rating at just 2 and My Tooth Your Love at 4, but mainly for that absolutely ridiculous change in the narrative around the father beating up a grown arse man.
If you haven't already, check out Let's Talk About Chu on Netflix, a new Taiwanese drama, which features a wonderful gay couple. That was refreshing, an actual breath of fresh air from Taiwan, with the whole premise around sex.
If I'm honest, I'm not really invested in this one, but as you, I'm going to stick with it for now. The whole robot narrative isn't one I'd naturally be drawn to and as you say, it hasn't been done very well, quite the opposite in my mind. I also find it borderline childish, which I struggle with when viewing grown arse adult males on-screen. However, I do find myself intrigued by their chemistry, so let's see.
to be fair she hasn't seen the man in 9 years and we still don't know the circumstances of their break up (though…
Why wouldn't she have trust after 9-years, and why do you think his personality would do a 100% about turn? I reiterate, this was a man she was ultimately intending to spend the rest of her life with. I would hope for this reason and what we've seen of her personality, that she is a good judge of character, or she wouldn't have made that decision. Why she didn't go is as we know another story yet to be told, which I know we're both interested in and also who the daddy is.
Also, no doubt, as a lawyer at the ex's firm and him being a former Prosecutor, she would have known about his career and reputation, which as viewers we were shown. He was a man of integrity, who didn't listen to his boss, instead choosing to do the right thing, going as far as to throw his boss under the bus and leave a lucrative, highly paid job.
Additionally, in their first meeting after said years, he even helped her with her case by giving her information.
In my mind, there's absolutely nothing up to now in any episodes to say he can't be trusted, or that he would intentionally use her, indeed quite the opposite.

It really doesn’t matter how long it’s been since she dated him, the point I’m making is that she dated him for a number of years and would’ therefore totally understand the type of man he is. Additionally, she was also planning to run away with him the night before her wedding to another man. You don’t run away with someone, you don’t know and trust.
My thoughts about Looney: although I wouldn't be surprised if his ending was driven by homophobia, my initial…
I’m in total agreement with a lot of what you’ve said. However, I’m not sure his parents weren’t aware that he was gay. I think they used the term ‘friend’ as part of their own comfort zone.
I also don’t think he did think his support system was gone, although, I can absolutely appreciate why you’d think this way. He had a gay lover he adored for years, his focus was 100% on being with him and to get him back, hence his cold turkey. His partner had clearly told him this in the visit. I think once out, he’d have been more than happy to settle into a life with his partner. After all, he was the only person he ever truly wanted.
However, satan came a-knocking and I think a perhaps the trigger was the fact they weren’t waiting for him at the prison gates, with that all-important tofu.
Gosh, Kim Sa Ra's personality infuriates me at times. Sometimes I feel like we have one writer exclusively commissioned to write about her naïve, dumb thinking around her personal life and another with the brief to write about an intelligent, fierce, quirky lawyer.
WTAF was that whole conversation around her thinking Dong Ki Joon was using her to infiltrate No Yool Sung. For an intelligent woman, she comes across as ludicrously thick at times. She dated Dong Ki Joon for years, at the very least she should be extremely wise to his personality and absolutely know that this isn't a man who'd use her to get to her ex and therefore what he wants. This is a man with integrity who respects and loved her dearly, while still showing these attributes. This she should absolutely know 100%. So, in this regard, I find the writing lazy and sloppy just to create an immature misunderstanding.
For me, this argument was all around her blatant ego. She's still in love with him and wanted to believe he came to the Firm solely for her, hence her anger and disappointment. If she kicked into gear the intelligent, lawyer side of her brain, she'd know he needed 3-months to win her back. Additionally, that lawyer side of her brain would also respect and admire the fact he had good, solid evidence which would assist her in bringing down No Yool Sung quicker as a team.
I'm still invested, as I'm intrigued to see mummy and ex finally brought down.
The acting is wonderful, the characters are well-drawn and consistent, it's beautifully filmed, and it's so boring…
I’m in total agreement with your comments. The earlier episodes prior to them dating were more interesting. And, I agree, it’s just too painfully childish behaviour for two men in their 30’s. I was actually looking forward to this episode finishing. The whole distant relationship narrative was cringey viewing.
Bloody hell! That was an excellent episode. Actually made me feel anxious the entire time. Damn, Soo Min's character makes for uncomfortable, but mesmerising viewing. Looking forward to seeing how it concludes tomorrow.
I'm loving this. I'm loving this so damn much. FL is seriously bad ass and funny as fuck and our ML is a happy puppy in her hands. What a refreshing and exhilarating watch.
This show was enjoyable til I saw the sexual assault scene.
It wasn’t sexual assault. Hilarious you think this. It was a man, giving another man a much needed wank to ease him into a much needed sleep and he loved it and slept like a baby. #JustSayin’
I wasn’t sure about this drama when I started the first two episodes, as let’s be honest Taiwanese BL’s have been sadly on a serious slippery slope recently. I don’t understand what’s going on with their writers and directors. They were and rightly so, the kings of BL’s with their brave, provocative writing, which sadly became dull, unbelievable and fluffy. I’m so routing for them to reclaim their throne. #Fighting
However, episode 4 was intriguing. I liked the narrative around history and the science around human emotions and feelings.
I don’t usually do cute, as it bores me senseless and comes across as childish in an adult world, but I’ll hold my hand up and say I did like when Chu Yi Ping returned to the house to collect his bag and saw the obvious distress of Ever 9 at his departure and therefore took him to work. Also, the conversation in the car about what to call him, made me smile, together with the kiss when Ever 9 didn’t know what to do with his hands.
If I remain intrigued, which I am, I’ll remain invested.
