If you hover your mouse over the rating (or tap on it if you're using your phone), another box will pop up with a breakdown of ratings by Currently Watching, Completed (which some people somehow are able to mark as completed before the drama is done airing), Dropped, and Verified User Rating
Right now, the Currently Watching rating is close to 8.6, which in my view most accurately assesses the view of people actually watching the drama.
The Dropped rating, on the other hand is 2.03 (so largely 1 ratings, and the only people who really rate dramas as a 1 are doing so maliciously, usually without even watching the drama). Usually haters of one of the main leads - this happens to ALL of XK's dramas here on MDL, and/or aggressive fans of other concurrently airing/competing dramas.
Verified ratings are currently at 7.6. Verified accounts are linked to a mobile phone number, so are generally limited to one account per person (unless you have more than one mobile number). So a lot of the malicious raters likely also use their main, verified accounts to downrate as well, but this rating was probably created to help balance out malicious downvoting by haters as well as blindly high ratings by actor fans (those who rate 10 no matter the content of the drama) by creating multiple shell accounts to rate multiple times. It's usually several points lower than the Currently Watching/Complete ratings

I had thought this too (because I remember Marcus reported that XK had resigned about a year ago maybe?), but I had heard that it may be common practice for some actors/actresses to sign shorter length contracts after their first longer one (7 to 10 years?). Not sure about the regulations in China in terms of maximum contract length (for example, it's 7 years in S. Korea for most kpop idols as far as I know)

In fairness to me, I’ve had to cram a lot more stuff in my head since then (studying for boards is hellish 💯 do not recommend regardless of profession) so other things were sacrificed, including some of my sanity 🫠
