It's probably because XK's origins as an actor are seen as . . . lesser? He's not from a rich/prominent/legacy family, he didn't go to acting school - he got lucky in being picked out of the crowd by Yuzheng years ago (despite what many of us think of the guy, he was instrumental in giving XK his initial chance), but he's worked hard to prove himself just as a capable (or more so) than some actors/actresses with a lot of financial and industry back-up. His success despite not having a more legitimate "in" into the industry probably ruffles quite a bit of feathers - particularly those that have been raised with the expectation that they can ride on the coattails of privilege and legacy while being mediocre and not working harder for it.

At least that's what I've gathered from my limited outsider perspective - someone do correct me if I'm factually wrong about anything!

I think in this case, the "nepo baby" is referring to Arthur Chen/Chen Feiyu who plays the ML in WDBTD, which is airing at the same time and has less reservations at the moment.

I've heard him described as 'nepo baby' several times in various places. I haven't seen any of his dramas so I personally can't attest for his acting ability - just passing along what I've heard (don't want to cause drama) ^^'

Viki often doesn’t announce shows until either right before they premiere or after the show has already aired several episodes in China, so we may not know one way or the other for a while. Also, since Disney+ has streaming rights, Viki may not be able to pick it up in those regions.

You're not worth it, you're not going to change your mind or behavior, and you're literally just a hater who uses passive aggressive insults to elevate herself and her fave. It was hard to follow your stream of consciousness babbling but I think I got the major points and have some counter points I'd like to make. Read or not, respond or not, I frankly don't care.

1. Do not put words in my mouth. Where in any of the above conversations have I personally said anything bad about SZE or participated in any discussion of this particular melon before now? Nowhere. So stop claiming as if "I" and the like 2 or 3 other people speculating about SZE's involvement are one in the same OR that those people represent the entirety of XK's fan base. It's absurd and honestly the thing I take most offense to.

2. You are a hypocrite. You come onto Xu Kai's page to "defend" your fave but you don't just directly address the fan behavior you have issue with. No, you also immediately resort to indirectly and then directly insulting XK, belittling his ability as an actor (by essentially claiming he's nothing but an empty idol/traffic star), as well sh*tting on his dedication to bettering himself as an actor by implying he should just settle to work with second-rate/amateur actresses to make himself look better. You then wax poetic ad nauseum about how SUPERIOR SZE is to XK, how she's a child star so therefore inherently better than XK (and pretty much everyone else right?), and essentially you feel the need to put XK down in order to elevate SZE. How are you any better? By your logic, why should XK fans want him to work with SZE if she has fans like YOU who will also attack him viciously for no reason other than a rumor?

You're doing the exact same thing you're rabidly yapping about, except in this case worse since YOU brought it onto XK's page yourself. No one is talking smack about SZE on HER page, so what makes you think it's cool to do so on XK's page? And then not expect someone to clap back at you? You can call out fans for atrocious behavior WITHOUT also insulting their fave. My entire response to you is case in point.

3. I reiterate. Before making blanket statements about someone, do your research. XK isn't trying to branch out into more serious dramas? Really? All it takes is a very quick look at some of his dramas on deck:

Fire Investigator - Crime/Thriller/Mystery. Not an idol drama.

Fang Yuan Ba Bai Mi - Thriller/Crime/Adventure. Not an idol drama.

One can argue that Best Choice Ever and As Beautiful as You were more idol-adjacent in that they star popular traffic actors, but the thematic content of both dramas was not purely idol-centric. BCE is a family and female empowerment drama with greater focus on the family part. ABAY was romance, yes - but also focused A LOT on business development, investing, competition/sabotage which a lot of idol romance fans found boring/dry and too serious. Both of those dramas also aired on TV - BCE aired on CCTV for your information.

Also, there are plenty of 'idol' dramas that are objectively good and not just a vehicle for plastic pretty faces to look good. Your very own SZE has been in multiple idol dramas herself (Prisoner of Beauty? Demon Hunter's Romance? is she not currently filming one?), so I don't get where your superiority complex is coming from.

Yeah, XK is part of a big management company . . . but it's quite obvious even to casual fans like myself that he is NOT treated nearly as well as other actors in Huanyu (*coughBLcough*), and very much does NOT have good support from his team. There have been many 'scandals' and fake news about him in which his company does absolutely nothing - no press releases refuting misinformation, no legal actions taken against malicious rumors. There was one instance the man had to interrupt filming to go to the police department himself to file a complaint. Like, come now.

Also just because he wasn't some child prodigy and didn't go to some fancy drama school doesn't make him any less of an actor or detract from his potential to grow as a 'serious' actor. And blabbing on and on about how SZE is objectively "better" than XK for having the PRIVILEGE of such education is frankly obnoxious. There are PLENTY of c-actors out there with 'degrees' that are awful at acting and numerous who don't have degrees that are great actors.

I get you're upset that some people are bad-mouthing your fave (I'm assuming you're like a mega SZE stan because you sure sound like one), but maybe coming onto XK's MDL page and screaming at what are 99% his fans isn't the best idea, eh? Like, no one here will agree with you. Are XK fans justice warrioring over on SZE's MDL page? No, they're not, so I don't get why you're even here? Except to just rage-bait XK fans and cause drama? Because even though no one has gone onto SZE's page to spit venom on her based on rumors, they probably will now since you've thrown the first stone. And that's entirely on you.

And just as an aside, I actually like SZE as an actress, at least based on the few dramas I've watched, so not a hater (because I know people like you will accuse me of it)!

I thought I read at some point that Tian Xi Wei refilmed some scenes (possibly because of this reason?) I may be remembering incorrectly though . . . also his character wasn't even named so if he was just unilaterally deleted, I doubt it would affect the overall feel of the drama (but it still took extra time to remove him and resubmit for review)!

I have a feeling that MDL won't update the episode number until the production gets an official episode count (once they pass review and get a distribution license)
